I would also take that with a grain of salt, I've had friends deliver very average to small babies when they were told 10lbs+
And on the flip - no one could believe that I had an 8lbs+ baby.

Also, my little brother, my mom's second delivery, was 10lbs and she had him within 20 minutes of arriving at the hospital! haha

My son was 9 lbs 10oz and 23 inches. We had been told he was probably going to be bigger (between 8-9 lbs) but he was cooking a little longer than 40 weeks :). I was scheduled for my induction at 41w 3d and ended up going into labor naturally that morning. I attempted to deliver vaginally (with an epidural) but his head was too big so I ended up having a c-section.

If it makes you feel any better, I was never dilated any more than 1 cm for the entire pregnancy. They put me on pitocin once my water broke and I went from 1 to 10 in about 6 hours. Good luck- at least the end is in sight :).

I know that measurements are often wrong but not always. My best friend (who is tiny) had an ultrasound at 40 weeks 4 days and they estimated baby to be 9 lbs 15 oz and decided to do a c-section that day. He was born at 9 lbs 13 oz, so almost dead on! She never dilated at all! Just another perspective :)

My daughter was 10lbs8oz and 22 inches long. I delivered her vaginally and labored without pain meds. I ended up with forceps for a reason unrelated to her size. I delivered her at 40+6.

It really was not a big deal. My recovery was pretty easy. I did have some tailbone issues for a couple of months but it was nothing that didn't go away.

ETA: My midwife estimated C at between 9 and 10lbs... she was bigger than they estimated.

I work in a mother baby unit, and you would really be shocked how many moms are expecting huge babies but get little bitty ones! Just last week a mom told me they were expecting a 10 pounder by u/s measurements, but the baby was a little peanut at 7 pounds 2 ounces. I'd definitely take their measurements with a grain of salt.

I was 7lbs 8oz, and 3 days past my due date. My husband was also past his due date, but he was over 9 lbs!

I think I'm just getting really nervous now that the size is so big, and I'm GBS+. It just seems like so much could go wrong. It's good to hear that the ultrasound measurements can be inaccurate.

in my experience, they usually overestimate most of the time. 10 lbs is huge! unless big babies run on both sides of your family, i'd probably think that it's going to be smaller!

if it really is that big.. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You would be surprised how inaccurate those estimations are. I actually don't even know why they do them! My best friend's daughter was estimated to be 10 lbs and she ended up being 7.5. I don't have any advice other than to definitely try for vaginal birth. You might either be surprised by a) what your body is capable of and b) the fact your baby is smaller than they said!

Good luck and I hope your baby comes soon.

I just got back from my 41 week ultrasound and while all vitals are looking great, they measure the baby at 10 lbs 13 oz!!! I'd love to hear from other moms who delivered chunky monkeys. What was it like? I'm waiting to hear back from the doctor now. I'm leaning towards hoping we can just have a c section but my practice is pretty natural so I'm nervous they will want to wait and see.

(I'm only about 1cm dilated, and had planned on delivering with an epidural)
