My son is almost 3 and he still can't catch! He can throw pretty well and can kick. I think around 3 is when kids start really finessing their hand/eye coordination skills.

I think 3 is a common age to really purposefully catch and throw and kick. Most of the kids I worked with in gymnastics couldn't do it until then (and catching is really hard).

In my mommy and me classes, I would have them sit facing each other and try to throw and catch.

Wagon Jr. is finally throwing, kicking, and catching! Well, he's 3. Haha. But his throw is pretty good-- he has really good follow-through so his throws go straight instead of right into the ground. He can kick pretty well and he's just learned how to catch. Still practicing though!

At what age should toddlers know how to do these things with a ball? Right now my 16 month old can throw pretty well although sometimes it just lands by her feet. She is really good at kicking a ball around with her feet, maybe she'll be a great soccer player? We would like to teach her how to roll a ball but she just stands up and kicks it. We just started teaching her how to put her arms out to catch but she can't do it yet.

We have this ball which is lots of fun!
