My sons and I both have reactions to adhesive. For big wounds I use the band aids but take them off once the bleeding has stopped or use cotton and tape but I even react to paper tape. I also have a latex allergy which a nurse told sometimes is in adhesives.

I'm allergic to adhesive. Curad have a line of bandaids that are for sensitive skin, it didn't work for me.

Now I use gauze and paper tape. I only use it for a short period or time or I break out with blisters.

@T-Mom: I found out the good old fashion way. Sex.Sex using a latex condom of course. I developed the allergy as an adult, okay I was 17, I thought I was an adult lol. Hope what ever it is you can figure it out for your LO.

@brownie: exactly, it was just like a burn! Great tip on the gauze and tape, i will remember that. Adhesive free tape... Will need to google that, thanks!

I also heard it's best to inform the ER, doctors, etc anytime you need surgery or IV to not use these adhesives, so many things to remember , hopefully will never need to :-(

I am allergic to adhesive with the same reaction as your son. Ultimately it's like I burn my skin. I just do the gauze or let it clot on its own. Or I will wrap gauze with pretape and then hold it on with athletic tape on the pretape so no adhesive touches my skin. There are also adhesive free taps that work okay.

@Sugar.Biscuit: the nurse said the bandage was latex free but I guess it's impossible to tell now. I have also noticed that he hates bananas and avocados and had heard that those could also be latex related allergies, but I'm not a doctor so I dont know. How did you confirm your latex allergy- allergist?

@T-Mom: I have that problem with latex a bandages but I have a latex allergy. Naturally I would question the latex & not the adhesive because I'm fine with non latex bandages. Just some food for thought.

I have trouble with bandaids personally. The adhesive area causes me to have an allergic reaction which is really itchy. Hydrocotrizone helps and not all bandaid brands cause a problem but it's been so long since i bought bandaids I don't know which ones were better than others

I took DS for shots a few months ago, and I left the band aid on for maybe a day. When I took it off, it looked red but I just figured it was irritited. Over the next few days the spot became a huge welt, and it was the exact shape of the bandaid, except the spot where the gauze is was clear. It took a month to clear up! Now I ask for gauze and just hold it until he stops bleeding, but I don't know what I will do if he ever needs to stop bleeding over a longer period.

Anyone have this experience with their LO or with yourself? It looks like he is allergic to the adhesive on the bandaid ( bandage was latex free). He had many shots with same band aids before this occurred. Thanks!
