@fussygal: I think so, but my babe is only 9 weeks so we haven't used it for that yet!

@MrsMcD: I can totally see that. We do all his naps in either the cosleeper or his crib and he's good in either place.

@MrsMcD: when I had lo we were staying at a temp townhouse (awaiting completion of our house) 800 sq ft on 2 levels. We did buy a crib, but no changing table. So we got the Oeuf crib and their changing table that attaches to the crib. That really did help with space, but we soon realize it was too big for a newborn. That's when we bought the Stokke bassinet. I did pay a premium for more modern furniture, but it's worth it to me since we are ttc right now.

@mamabear57: I live in a small condo and I just can't even imagine where I would put a pack n play, especially a hideous looking one. I agree that the European brands look better.

@MrsMcD: @fussygal: I can truly understand how ugly baby gear are. I'm extremely picky and did not shop at BRU at all. Also a reason I did not buy a pack n play. However I will admit that when lo turned 6 months I bought an exersaucer that was hideous. Lo loved it so there wasn't anything I could do about it. The brands from Europe have way better baby gear in my opinion.

@NorCalWayfarer: @MrsMcD: @fussygal: story of my life. I spent my entire pregnancy trying to find crap that was JUST WHITE. No ducks, no clowns, no lollipops...
It's all kind of ugly, but man...it was useful. The way I look at it is: I get to sell it all and have it out of my house in a few years.

@fussygal: the stokke is to die for. If I didn't already have a bouncer, rock n play, pack n play and bassinet, i'd get it. Of course, it was not around when I was pregnant though.

@NorCalWayfarer: Sadly, all of the modern looking baby gear is generally so expensive!

@DigAPony: and @fussygal: My sister used an arms reach co-sleeper for her little girl and absolutely loved it. She said something about having a flat surface (as opposed to inclined) made the transition to her crib so much easier.

I recommend an Arms Reach Mini Cosleeper. It's so convenient for nighttime wake ups! They're kind of expensive but we found ours on Craigslist for only $60! It can also be converted to a playpen.

I have used the rock n play bassinet and I hate the way it rocks, it kind of jolts from side to side tossing the baby with and it is hard to get a rhythm going.

Ugly as it is, the PNP might be the way to go unless you can get one that goes with your stroller.

I think we'll probably just do a PNP/travel crib or RNP since it seems like bassinets aren't used for that long of a time (and we aren't getting a stroller with a bassinet).

@fussygal: oh, yes, they ARE hideous. I didn't love it but, honestly we used the heck out of it:) Now we use it to go to grandma's when he has to nap there (like if we're there all day for Thanksgiving or something) and we used it a bunch when we went to BBQs in a park or something because he would sit in there instead of in the grass and also he was safe and we wouldnt have to worry about him crawling away. We also have lent it to MANY friends because it wipes down easily. So, there is always that. I am sure you can get a good price too. I bought mine from walmart for less than $100 and it came with a bassinet/changer, carrying case, toy rack and a diaper holder. Here: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Graco-Reversible-Napper-and-Changer-Pack-n-Play-Playard-Gecko/17747586
and this is nice too:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Graco-Pack-n-Play-Playard-with-Newborn-Napper-Sonoma/22236444
but it is the same really as the first one, because the changer rotates and becomes the bassinet, so no need to spent the extra $$

@CupQuakeWalk: We have the Citi Mini GT but I think maybe you're right and we should bite the bullet with the Pn'P... sounds like a basinet is used for such a short time that it might not be worth it.

I'm not a fan of bassinets beause it is such a short timeframe to use them, our LO slept in the RNP fulltime and loved it. She had reflux so the incline was great for her.

I would buy a PNP over a bassinet personally, you will get more use out of it over the long haul!

Which stroller do you have? If your stroller is compatible with a bassinet, I'd get that one so it can serve 2 purposes. You can just get the stand for it (cheap).
If not- is bite the bullet & get the p&p because you will use it for every outdoor BBQ, every vacation and as a toy box eventually ;)

@fussygal: we had one similar with solid sides like that and it was never an issue. We didn't get a whole of use out of it so I thought it was sort of a waste of money in the long run. DS started to not want to be put down in it so we ended up cobedding. He could have fit in it a lot longer though. We didn't use a pack n play because we also didn't think we would need it (and haven't felt the need for one yet at 13 months)

I'm not a fan of bassinets since they can't be used for anything after a brief period of time. We got a travel pack and play to use instead- we still use it even with a 2 year old. It's great for traveling, as a playpen, and as a ball pit.

M slept in her regular RnP for all nights and naps for the first several months. It fit in the small space next to my bed and it was SO helpful to be able to rock her to sleep while she was already in it. I think the way that it cradled her was very important as well. Best money I've ever spent.

I didn't even know there was a Rock n Play bassinet. It looks amazing! That said, LO occasionally naps in her regular RnP at three months and still has plenty of room to grow, so you'd probably be fine with just that. I initially bought the Summer bassinet but couldn't get over the safety fears, so I returned it.

LO will sleep in our room for the first few weeks/months and our room isn't terribly big. For that reason I really don't want to use a Pack n' Play, plus I just don't think we'd get much use out of it - might be something we get and lives at grandma's instead.

I REALLY like this Summer Infant one, but I'm wondering if the sides being "solid" (vs. mesh) is an issue. Seems like it could be dangerous if LO gets up against it? Also, I wonder how long she'd fit in it. http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Bentwood-Bassinet-Motion-Baby/dp/B00CXVNXK8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1389728151&sr=8-2&keywords=summer+infant+bassinet

I've also looked into the Grace travel crib (I'm meh on this one but DH likes it) and the Rock and Play bassinet, but we'll have the RnP sleeper, too...maybe this is RnP overkill since they're so similar?.

As you can see I have many swirling thoughts on this :) so other suggestions welcome! Something small, not hideous, and safe are the main requirements. ETA: And around $130
