Wow! It looks great! :)

Funny, we have Edgecomb Grey in our kitchen with a very similar color scheme on the curtains/burgandy stove knobs.

It looks great! I like the color. We have a bathroom in our basement that we really need to repaint something lighter because it’s dark and small and I might go with this!

@LCTBQE: I thought about just doing our master bedroom, which was totally gutted in the reno, in edgecomb but also felt lame painting nearly the whole house in the same color. But there is a serious chance I may regret it.

@yellowbeach: I think edgecomb could also look good with white accessories, so if you wanted you could maybe do something now and more when or if you have time and desire in the future...

Now I’m really torn - paint it edgecomb vs swap the accessories out for all white. Will definitely do the bigger mirror and hanging plants. 🤔 I think painting with edge comb might be cheaper than buying a new curtain, rug and towels. Feels more manageable a project (1 day) since I’m juggling a lot of other projects in preparation for baby #2. Thanks guys!!!

@periwinklebee: it'll look great!! Our bathrooms are actually painted light blue (came that way and we haven't re-painted them since we might want to renovate soon-ish). They're innocuous but feel a lil like an elementary school boys' room, I wish they'd just done edgecomb in there too. I feel kind of uncreative having the whole house "house-flipper light grey", but it does look really good. Eh.

@LCTBQE: We are renovating the bathrooms in our house and they will be edgecomb grey (egg shell finish) with white trim. The fact that you suggest this for @yellowbeach: 's bathroom is making me less nervous about whether I made the right decision  (even though we have it elsewhere in the house, I was still uncertain about use in the bathrooms, paint colors are hard!)

I like the color paper white for this space, it is a white/gray with blue undertones. Additional unsolicited advice about the bathroom - I agree with white shower curtain and bath mat advice. I'd also switch out the mirror for a larger oval, perhaps with a natural wood finish. I'd also add natural wood shelves the full width of the area over the toilet. That will break up the white and blue and add another texture. I like the hanging plant idea as well to add some pops of green to the space.

@azaela: Funny you mention the hanging plant - I actually have this white tiered planter upopened and sitting in the closet x 3 years now. I think it might be perfect in that corner as you mention.
It’s also funny how many have recommended a white shower curtain and rug. This was how they had the bathroom staged when we bought this house. Y’all might be right.

Could you tile behind the vanity? Or maybe do some sort of stencil? I would also change the shower curtain to something less busy. Maybe white?

Eta not sure if there is room but how about a hanging plant in that corner by the window. Something bigger than what is on the sill.

@periwinklebee: @Foodnerd81: yep, also what I was going to say. when we moved in, our house had just been painted almost top to bottom in edge comb grey with white trim. It's really nice, it'll make that space feel much more finished than the white. @yellowbeach: although I would do it in eggshell finish, not a higher gloss like your walls appear in the photos. funny that you and @becky: have the same tile !

I was going to say edgecomb gray as well (we have it in most of my common areas). Or maybe white oak- it was a slightly lightly but similar greige color. I agree that I would not attempt to paint the vanity.

We have similar colored tiles in our kids bathroom but a white vanity. We ended up using a grayish blue paint and yes ok but I wouldn’t do that with the blue vanity. I like your current shower curtain and rug.

A light creamy yellow would look pretty too but I don’t know if it would feel too old fashioned or too nursery-ish.

Maybe ben moore edgecomb gray? It's a great neutral that makes white trim pop really nicely - we have it with white trim throughout our house - and also coordinates with a variety of other colors and looks good in a variety of lighting conditions.

Lighting is terrible but here’s ours with the yellow bathmat (kids version) vs the white bathmat (both were hand me downs—I would do a white runner in yours). The white looks much better against the blue (plus you have the added bonus of the white trim—DH refuses to paint the wood in ours white). I think a nice white shower curtain would look perfect with that cool old shower!

I agree that if you replace the rug and shower curtain with white you wouldn’t feel the need to repaint! You’d just let the blue tiles and vanity be the stars and therefore your pop of color.

She also probably has a tutorial for painting plasticky materials, but I also think you’d be fine leaving it blue. I think sticking with white shades could go well with the older house too!

@Becky: Unfortunately this is the only full bath in our whole house (100 years old), so it's a shared resource. Is there a shade of cream or off-white that could work without just looking dirty? The vanity is I think from IKEA and is a composite (?plastic) surface that won't sand and therefore I fear won't take and keep a coat of paint well - even with a good primer. I'm afraid to try and find out the hard way it was a bad idea bc it chips off. I do like the idea of a simple white curtain with some texture... sort of embracing the white.

We have the same exact tile in our kids bathroom and it’s so hard to work with, and I posted about it a few months back. We also have a bluish grey counter and sink which is a pain to work with color wise. Because it’s a kids bathroom we capitalized on that. I’d love a rainbow rug, but we were gifted a yellow one that works nicely. I got a cheapest plastic shower curtain with a fun print that matches the tile great. The walls are white, except for a portion around the sink which we are keeping blue for now since the kids are always touching it.

If this is going to be anything but a kids bathroom I’d say keep it white (or repaint the white), but replace the rug and shower curtain with something that matches a little better. I would probably actually do a white shower curtain that has some texture. Not sure about the rug color. I could see white also, and then adding some more hanging plants for some color.

Can you paint the vanity? Maybe grey or dark blue?

@PawPrints: The bathroom would still also be used as a bathroom - she specifically said in the OP that even with the PnP in there, they would still have room to use the toilet, so when I read that I assumed it would still be used as a bathroom. She also said in a followup that people could still use that bathroom when baby isn't sleeping, so...yeah. Maybe I'm a germaphobe, but to me that makes it quite different from a closet (although depending on the closet I still might have some air circulation concerns, but maybe that wouldn't be a big deal.)

People have some strong feelings about this! I think babies in unconventional spots, like a bathroom, is probably much more common in city spaces. It may take some tinkering to find the configuration that works well for your family, but I wish you luck! Congrats on #2.

@cranberryapple: what did you end up doing?

i am going to guess that people living in NYC or any other really expensive urban area felt ok with this. i think its fine too. you do whatever works for your family, making sure that it is a safe environment for your kids. there was an article about this recently!

Wow, I did not see this thread when it was happening - just saw it got bumped up. I have to say I don't get the issue, at ALL. The baby will not remember being in a bathroom. If it's clean and not used as a bathroom, what's the problem? Embarrassment about not being an awesome super-mom with a gorgeous nursery? Seems fine to me, whatever works for you and your family.

It also seems weird to me that people would suggest using a closet as the nursery but that the bathroom isn't okay. What's the difference? (As long as the bathroom isn't used as a bathroom).

I think you do what you have to do to get newborn to a point where they usually sleep through the night--- and so that everyone else sleeps as best as they can in the mean time. (We live in a 750sq ft home-- I get it entirely when you have no choice but to work with the space you have.) if that means LO #2 sleeps in a bathroom until they start sleeping through the night or down to 1 wake up-- so that both kids can start sleeping in a room together-- then that's what you do. It's temporary. So who cares?

As to the pack and play discussion: DS slept in the Arm's Reach Classic until we moved him to a big boy bed. (The Arm's Reach is kind of a glorified pack and play.) Not once did I feel like the mattress wasn't enough support or that it was otherwise an inappropriate place for a baby to sleep day in and day out until he was 21 months old.

ETA: by mattress, I mean that we used the "mattress" (really more like a sleeping mat) that came with the co-sleeper. No pack and play or crib mattress. So no safety issues from putting a crib mattress in it or anything like that.

Last thing-- You're handling some of these comments so well. Kudos to you for being such a good sport!

My 2 cents is to move you, husband, and baby to the loft & put your son in the Master bedroom with the intent to make the Master bedroom the kids room when they are old enough to share.

That said, if you do put your newborn in the bathroom, please put a door hanging of some sort on the door signifying that it is a "bedroom". In the event of an emergency, first responders may not think to check the bathroom for a baby.

Good luck!!! We are in a 1100 square foot condo & I feel your pain on small living spaces

I don't know if anyone mentioned this already (sorry didn't read through all the comments) - is there any way that you could put the PnP in the master and a crib up in the loft and put the baby in with your DS in the master until you are ready for bed and then move the baby up to the loft with you?
I would just worry about having the baby in the bathroom if you need to use both of them - like a stomach bug running through the house or something. I wouldn't really like the idea of my baby sleeping in a bathroom if there was any other possible alternative.
