I started the mini pill 6 weeks PP. I EBF until 4-5 months when we introduced solids. I continued BF until DS was 13 months and got my period when DS was about 11 months.

I'm guessing it really just depends on your body as to when AF returns.

I *think* I might be getting AF. Just noticed some very light spotting (11 weeks pp and EBF). I haven't had my IUD yet - still waiting for insurance? I've been really bad about taking oral BC, like I've remembered 3xs in 2 weeks.

So I've looked back and getting your period while BFing seems fairly common. But did Birth control in pill or IUD form affect whether you got your period or not? Like, would being on a form of BC make you more likely to get regular periods even while BFing? I'm hoping its just very light spotting and that regular AF can stay away for a very long time!

What was your experience?

@greenthumb: I'm also sorry you are having a difficult time. I know there are women who have been trying much longer then me and I feel badly complaining, but I appreciate your good thoughts. I'm hoping cycle #8 is lucky for you!

Yes, I've been doing acupuncture for a little over two months and I feel like it's helped tremendously. I hope it will continue helping to shorten my cycles. Thanks again!

@arielle9510: I'm sorry and I totally feel your frustration even though I'm one of those women with a short cycle. For me it has been disappointment after disappointment each month for 7 cycles now (we are in our TWW on cycle #8). The whole TTC thing is tough when it is taking longer than you expect - whether you have only had a few tries at it, or many. I really wish you the best of luck in regulating soon! I thought I saw you mention you were doing acupuncture, right? I'm sure that will help get things on track!

I'm just getting so frustrated with these long cycles. I hate waiting a whole month to ovulate while most women are already onto the next cycle. I'm trying to stay positive, and I know you can get pregnant during a long cycle, I'm just getting tired and angry that it's taking me so long to regulate! Sorry had to rant.

I'm on CD26 of my second "official" cycle coming off BC (I've been off BC since October). Last cycle I o'd on CD35. I'm hoping that the longer I am off BC the shorter my cycles will get. I've also been doing acupuncture for a couple of months so I'm hoping that will help as well.

For those ladies who had longer cycles coming off BC, by how many days did they shorten each cycle? And how much earlier did you ovulate? I started using OPKs last week but stopped after a while because I wasn't getting a positive. I'll probably pick up again in the next few days, but is it even possible to "o" a whole week earlier?

I guess I was just hoping that I'd regulate faster. Thanks in advance for your help!

I broke out some when I was just off birth control. Once I got pregnant, wham-o - MAJOR break-outs all over the place. I'm just going with it and not treating them. I figure everything will calm down once I have the baby and go back on bc.

I got some too in my first couple months off the pill. Get a good spot treatment and dab it on the spot where you feel one coming (one with salicyclic acid, or tea tree oil works well too if you want to go natural). I wouldn't use Proactiv -- that stuff is really harsh. If your skin is at all sensitive any harsh treatments can make you break out. I'm a big cetaphil fan.

If you're TTC you might want to hold out on the Proactiv since it's not good for pregnancy.

I didn't start breaking out until I got pregnant... and then it was pretty bad! I asked my OB what to do about it and she prescribed me something, but I forget what it is.

Besides the occasional pimple, I've never had issues with my skin. 5 months off BC and my face hates me! I started getting these bumps under my skin on my forehead and around my mouth. I'm also noticing some bumps on my back and chest.

I'm not sure how to get rid of it and I'm hoping it's related to hormones and will settle down once I've been off BC for longer.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, did your skin calm down? I'm considering getting Proactiv, but am open to suggestions!

Well I finally O'd on CD35 so this cycle is definitely long but will be shorter then the last one! Feeling positive that my body is slowly but surely regulating!

@MRSLILYBUGG- I wouldn't consider the spotting to be your period. I had spotting a couple of days way before AF came. It may be your body trying to get AF or sometimes there can be spotting with ovulation. Have you been charting? I think it's a great tool for women with long cycles.

@EIKO2010- I'm sorry! I think I took 5 pregnancy tests the first couple months I was off BC. I had no idea it would take so long for AF to come.

@ADIRA- Don't worry about your cycles getting longer. I'm jealous you had a 27 day cycle!

I also went off BC in October. My cycles in November and December were pretty normal - 29 and 27 days, respectively. This month, AF was due 1/27...she just showed up today. That's 38 days. Since I'd had relatively regular cycles the last 2 months, I thought for sure I was pregnant. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed this morning.

@CarrieLouWho- I've actually been doing acupuncture for the past 6 or 7 weeks. I really think it's what finally brought AF on. I'm hoping it helps to regulate my cycles so I don't have to go on any medication. I'll definitely contact my doctor if this continues the next couple of months.

I was looking into purchasing an ovulation monitor as well. I have some opks but have trouble holding in my pee for so many hours and I run alot and have to hydrate. Do you suggest I get one? I'm not sure if it'll work until my cycles get shorter.

@Ms.Bucky- Trust me I know you feel! It was smart to go off BC before TTC. I wish I had done that, but we weren't really ready and I had some medications I had to get in order.

I'm glad we're not trying to get pregnant yet, or this would be way more frustrating. But I was planning on practicing FAM until we wanted to get pregnant. Of course, that's not possible until I start having cycles again.

@Arielle - I had the same issue and my doc said not to worry and prescribed clomid (I went off BC in Oct 2010 & saw her in May 2011). My cycles were still super long, so I went to see an accupuncturist and since then my cycles have dropped from 60-70 days down to 35. Also started using an ovulation monitor to pinpoint O.
Don't lose hope! But I do think it's worth checking out if it is still going on in a few months... and if you're ok with alternative medicine, Accupuncture is great!

@SSLM- I just posted a good luck to you on the TTC post!

I went to my doctor in December when I hadn't gotten AF at all. She didn't seem too concerned and told me that 50% of her patients that go off BC come back to her and say the same thing. I had bloodwork done and everything came back normal. She said to give it a few more months. Luckily, I got AF about a week later. I really had hopes that this cycle would be more "normal".

I feel like I've been stressing about it a lot and I know stress can delay ovulation. I'm having a hard time not thinking about it though. We are going to Florida tomorrow through Sunday so I think the relaxation and sun will help!

I've told my story a bunch on several posts, but here is a recap.

I went off BC in October after close to 13 years. I didn't get my first AF until this cycle. Now I am CD31 without any sign of O or AF so I guess I'm in it for another long one. I am charting now, which is helpful, but also makes me sad when I realize that I should've O'd by now. I know I can still get pregnant on a long cycle, especially if I track CM and my temperature, but it's hard to keep up the momentum!

I'm just frustrated that my body is regulating much slower then I thought it would.

Has anyone here had the same experience while coming off of BC? If so, how long did it take for your cycles to become more normal? Thanks in advance!
