Thanks guys! I'm happy to hear the spotting went away after going off the pill. I'll have to run this by DH but I think its the way I'll go.

I had awful spotting on the minipill, and I went off of it until I was done nursing (I used condoms). I had normal cycles while off the pill. I had previously used the minipill after LO1 with no issues. I also had some spotting on the regular pill, and finally found one that is working for me (Sprintec Tri).

I had this experience while on mini pill -- for this reason i got the Mirena 3.5 months after my last birth. I spotted for about six weeks on it and then was fine...but now I've had it for about 4 months and in the last month I've had minor spotting a day a week. I hear that gets better after 6 months....

No advice specifically on the mini pill, but since I got my period back pp I haven't been able to find a single pill I don't spot on. This month I decided to go off and I have had a perfect cycle with no spotting.

I just got my period back at 9 months pp and it was a doozie...then 4 days after it stopped it started right back up again. With DS1 I had basically 2 periods every month while I was on the mini pill and it drove me NUTS. I'm worried that's what is happening again now. I'm thinking about just quitting hormonal BCP until I'm done nursing. Has anyone who had crazy spotting/breakthrough bleeding on the mini pill tried this? I'm worried about a) the spotting continuing and b) how can I get a good sense of my cycles to start if I don't know what is *actually* a period?

I've been off of them for 6 years, but it was like seeing the world through new eyes when I quit taking them!! :)

BEST: Not being psychotic (I shouldn't joke about that). Seriously though, I was so irritable with no sex-drive.

WORST: I had a really hard time keeping track of my cycle (this was before I had an iphone app). With the pills, you could see when your period was to arrive. Oh, and now I have adult acne. Nothing too bad, but I know the BC helped manage that.

@bree72: ugh i was one of those weirdos i was up at least 20 pounds in a month..totally horrifying. Most of it went to the belly. So i went back on for about a year and now im back off it. So far no gain, but weigt loss. Phewww

So far pros are not remembering to take something, the money, also leatning about my body and cervical mucus and all that. I also have no more cramping or headaches.

Cons: not any yet!

@Foodnerd81: When I went in for my annual pap that year, I asked them about it and they said that randomly, some women will gain like 40lbs within months of coming off of the pill. I was so terrified that was going to happen, but it held steady at 12 lbs. I could not get rid of it, though, and then I got pregnant, so now it's part of my postpartum weight I'm tying to get rid of now.

Best: Yup, sex drive. To the point that I never want to go back on them again. Also I felt less foggy overall, somehow. Not remembering to take them. Not paying for them.

Worst: Unpredictable periods-- I charted right away, so I would know within a few days when my period would begin after I O'ed, but I couldn't predict it weeks in advance, or months, like on the pill.
Cramps and periods were only a little bit worse, which was a pleasant surprise-- expected them to be as bad as before.
Skin got a lot oilier- not terrible acne, really, but I had to learn to deal with a completely different skin type than I had for 8 years.
Headaches- I had wicked hormonal headaches on an off for the first 2 cycles, then they leveled off, thankfully. Kicked way back up when I got pregnant, but I know it was hormone related.

@bree72: I gained a little going off too. I was really, really hoping it would drop off like magic, somehow, but nope.

@bree72: I've had a little bit harder time with weight too. I think it's because PCOS is treated by BCP's (the horomones get regulated correctly) so I think by not treating that part of PCOS it makes it harder to lose weight. BUT I started metformin for PCOS so that might help now.

it's only my first month off, so i'm hoping some of the "worsts" are more like hormone withdrawal symptoms and will go away next month, but...

Best: SEX DRIVE! no more dryness, soreness, etc. don't know how i survived on it so long! and also just knowing i'm not shooting hormones into my body every day makes me feel better.

Worst: this month i had massive cramps during O, for almost a week (again, hoping this goes away!) and have been having some symptoms during my LP as well (sore boobs, a little nausea, stomach aches). and having no idea when (or if!) i'll get AF and how bad cramps will be.

all in all, major net WIN being off BCP :)

What are the BEST and WORST things you've experienced from going off BCP? It's crazy how many people are on them for so long, I couldn't believe the changes when I went off them. I went off BCP more than a year before we started TTC (we just used the "he's a full time student and worker and I'm a full time worker with a part time job too" method of BC!!!)

BEST: Sex drive. Hooooly moly. Also not paying for them!
WORST: acne! Headaches at first. I have PCOS so BCP is a treatment, so a lot of my PCOS symptoms are a ton worse off BCP.

What did you guys notice?

@fuzzypeaches: I had no problem regulating after BC (sorry no help there) but I hated waiting for AF to show so I always tested early. HOWEVER, I hated wasting money on tests as well. I suggest going to the dollar store and stocking up on tests from there (sense you plan on ttc anyways) and have a digital on hand just encase the cheep one comes up positive. GOOD LUCK!

@Foodnerd81, @WINNIEBEE: I definitely need to stock up on the cheapies, as with more research I've realized how common a prolonged cycle is when coming off of BCP!
@WALLAROO, @.TWIST. : I hope that happens to me too! I wasn't really trying, per say, but I was surprised at how said I was that its as negative!

@LindsayInNYC: So exciting right? I didn't think I would have problems regulating either, because prior to BCP I was 28day cycle like clockwork. But I guess you never know! It's driving me crazy!
