Ergo - really like it even though it feels a bit bulky/big for me. DS hasn't complained about being in it, and he's spent HOURS in it. He's currently 7 months.

I have the K'Tan, and I like it now that LO is a bit bigger, but I struggled with it when she was small. We also have a soft-structured carrier, the Infantino Flip from Walmart. The style of carrier is fantastic, but I know that particular brand isn't ergonomic or very supportive. However, for $29, it worked really well for the first few months, when LO needed to be held constantly.

I had a ktan but never got the hang of it. Probably user error, but she never felt secure and I ended up returning it.

Moby saved my life. It was a little cumbersome to tie at first but I quickly got very good at it, since many many days it was the only way to get C to sleep. We wore that thing every day for hours. But it was only really great up to about 3 months, after that I felt like it stretched out a little and I got tired of tying it.

Beco Gemini-love. It's super easy to get on and c and I are both very comfortable. Like that you can cross the straps in the back- comfie and easier to put on, like that I have te option of face forward (which is frowned upon I know but I still wanted the option. We only did it once and I wasn't a fan but I could see using t on occasion in the future). Dislike that there is no pocket at all and that it's sort of bulky with long straps so carrying around when you aren't wearing it is annoying (but most carriers are prob like that). Disclaimer- c is only 6 mos, 16 lbs, and I've only ever done front carries. Getting her on the back doesn't look super hard but I still like seeing her in front of me.

Ergo - this was a meh for me. Hurt my hips, so I sold it an bought a...
Tula - LOVE IT. My husband also loves it. Very versatile structured carrier.
Ring sling - Meh. I don't like having baby's weight all on one side of my body.
Mei tai - love it. So, so comfy. A nice compromise between woven wraps and structured carriers
Woven wraps - I'm an addict. Super versatile, super comfy. The only con to me is the bit of a learning curve, but anyone can learn it with a little practice. YouTube videos come in handy!

Ergo- My husband liked it but I wasn't a fan. I have scoliosis though and my back hurts easily. Most people love them.

Tula- Love it! I can wear DS (who is a big baby) for hours at a time with no back pain. Much more comfortable for me than the Ergo.

Ring Sling- I liked it when he was an infant but was too hard on my back when he got bigger. Again, this could be due to my scoliosis.

Woven Wrap- I literally just got one yesterday. There is quite the learning curve and it is pretty intimidating. I'll let you know how I feel about it in a few weeks :)

LO is 8 months old and 23 lbs.

I have a wrap ( I can't remember what kind ) I only used it a few times but wasn't super impressed. I should try it again but it just seems like it would be so hard in the parking lot to get it on nicely. Especially as it's winter and I try to be quick.

I had a Baby Borjn active mesh carrier which was recommended by a friend. I didn't know of all these other carriers so I got it. HATED it. It was fine ( manageable) for a short walk when she was first born and didn't weigh much. It made my shoulders hurt soooo bad.

I got an Olive and Applesauce ( similar to Tulas ) and I love it. I use it every single day for a minimum of 45 mins and up to a few hours. It's very comfortable for me and baby. It has a great seat. It has a pocket, a cover, a built in infant insert. You can use it front/back/and hip and you can breastfeed in it. ( how you breastfeed and walk I dunno.. but you can haha.)

I'm looking at getting a Tula just because I use the carrier every day and want to change it up sometimes. I was also considering a ring sling but I think I need something with more structure/support. When #2 comes eventually then I might try the ring sling then.

Baby Bjorn and similar carriers tend to be less comfortable for the wearer (all the weight on the shoulders) and much less comfortable for the baby, not to mention some evidence that they are bad for hip development. The ergo (or the Tula) is a great alternative.

- Moby. Awesome for the first three or four months. Isn't sized so it can be used by both you and your SO. A little complicated to learn but once you figure it out it's pretty easy.

- K'Tan. An easier, less complicated version of the moby, kind of. Sized so you and SO probably can't share. Also awesome for the early days. I loved my ktan.

- Ergo. Not so awesome for the teeny babies, in my opinion, but FANTASTIC for older babies. Very comfortable, easy to use, adjustable so you and SO can share. Lots of men seem to prefer the ergo over other carriers. We love ours.

- Woven wrap. Ahh. It's a whole culture. They can be intimidating, but they are so comfortable, versatile, and work from day one through toddlerhood. I'm a fan. :)

Everyone I know passed a carrier down to me so I had a K'tan, a moby, 2 bjorns, some slings and an ergo. I loved the K'tan for the first four months but you buy the K'tan sized for the adult and it was too small for DH. He used the moby a few times at that age. DH switched to the Bjorn when LO had head control. I wore it once and hated it. I moved on to the Ergo. I still use it daily at 1 year. Just about a month ago I got DH to try the Ergo again and he loved it. Both grandpas have worn it too. I love that it has a pocket. I pack one diaper and a travel pack of wipes and I'm out the door.

I've got an ergo. Super comfy and I wear her all the time. The one bad thing is that if she falls asleep in it, you can't put her down without waking her. I've heard you can with a mei tai. Definitely find a babywearers group. My city has one where you can rent carriers for a month ($5) to see which one you like. Super helpful.

We have used several SSCs, ring slings, mei tais, and will venture into wrapping when #2 comes in September. Overall I prefer my RSs because they're so "popable" and fit easily into my bag. My favorites are wrap conversions from Sleeping Baby Productions. My favorite SSC so far is Tula. I'm looking for the perfect mei tai, but I've tried several that I like.

It is super overwhelming at first. The best advice I can give is to try whatever carrier is appealing to you and is in your price range. No one carrier works for everyone. It also may be helpful to attend a local babywearing meeting or class to see various options side by side. Good luck!

ETA: LO is 21 months, and I wear her on occasion, but we mostly stopped around 15-16 months. Different kids like different things.

I have a Baby Bjorn and an Ergo. I hated the Bjorn so so so much - all the weight was on my shoulders, hence the Ergo. We aren't exactly pro babywearers, but so far the Ergo has been great on long walks with LO and the dog.

I have two K'tans (one for me and one for DH), a Beco Gemini and a Maya wrap. We loved the k'tan and used it all the time when LO was a newborn. Around 4-5 months, it started getting too stretched out during extended wear (it would shrink up again, but I had to wash it all the time) and it started to become less comfortable for me. I bought the Gemini at that time and am still using it at 14 months. I love that you can cross the straps, and I liked that it was less bulky than the Ergo I tried. I found a Maya wrap still in the packaging for $5 at a church garage sale and couldn't resist the deal. DD was around 9 months at the time. I like how portable it is and we do still use it, but I find that all of her weight on one shoulder gets uncomfortable pretty quickly now that she's so heavy. If you can, I'd try to find a local baby wearing group or store where you can see which carriers fit you well and make you feel comfortable. It's so personal, it seems!

I would really love to babywear my dd, but it seems like there are so many options. I have researched them but want to hear from fellow mama's who have any of them.

Which do you have, and what do you like/dislike about it?

How old is your baby and when did they grow out of it?

Do you/have you used them for multiple babies?

Thanks so much for the input. :)

Unfortunately I asked way too close to my flight and left before I got any responses here. I made the trip with my Girasol and if DH can fit it in his luggage when he comes, he will bring the Beco. We made it through security and the airport very nicely. I think the weather really impacted my decision since the wrap keeps us both warmer.

I used the newborn carry that you can take baby in and out of, and the kangaroo carry when he was napping on the plane. So far I know I made the right decision.

(Wearing a peacoat on the plane; however, was a mistake. It's warm here!)

We have the Ergo which I know is similar to the Beco and I would much prefer either of those versus a wrap kind b/c when I'm in a rush at the airport or anywhere having to clip, put baby in, and clip again is much easier. I have an Infantino wrap and tie (similar to a Mei Tai) and I used it to travel across the world with a 10 month old and it was a pain to use in a rush. The next time we have to travel the same route (my youngest will be 9 months old) I will be using our Ergo and am just going to bring one of those fold-able shopping bags and put the Ergo in there so it's easy to carry. They can't possibly count that as an extra carry on!

I've never traveled with a wrap, but I did recently travel with a mei tai which is a lot of extra fabric. I chose it because it's smaller when packed, but as soon as we got to the airport I regretted not taking our Beco. LO was 5 months, but still liked to be in and out of the carrier. It was kind of a pain to have extra straps everywhere. I like not having to completely take off the carrier when she's out of it, but the straps made that impossible. Plus, the Beco is more comfortable for me than the mei tai is.

I can't decide what carrier to bring with! I leave tomorrow and have to decide--the borrowed Girasol or the Beco Gemini? My suitcase is completely full and my "extra" bag is my diaper bag. Which do I bring?

Pros for Girasol: prettier (and many many many photos will be taken), more fun to wrap

Cons for Girasol: I don't know many wraps. Others may not be able to carry him (this may be a pro?). The front carry--though "poppable" is tiring to wear for a long time and I anticipate wearing him nearly all day for 5 days.

Pros for Beco: easy, others can carry him in it, fits under my coat in a front carry (but it will be 60+degrees the whole time--may not need my coat other than on the plane)

Cons for Beco: bulky when not on (Girasol may be "bigger" but it can be carried like a scarf, not a sack of buckles and foam and fabric), not as pretty (but not ugly)

I suppose I could always stuff the extra one in a bigger bag and shove my diaper bag in with it--but I have to carry that and my wheelie carry on with the baby through the airport, on the train, and downtown San Francisco.

What is your favorite baby carrier for travel? How old is your LO? My little boy is almost 6 months.
