LOL. This is my life. Only my son is almost 2. Ultimately it takes daddy stepping up. For about 2 weeks if he woke up and wouldn't go back to sleep with no boobie, daddy would pace with him. The other thing we would do (and you may not want to) is if he wouldn't calm down, we would put him in his room to cry. The idea was that our room wasn't for crying. Then if he calmed down or when he woke up again he came into our room again. Now, he sleeps from 7 - 4:30 am and 5:00 - 7:00 am.

Things we tried but didn't work for us - hard spout sippee cups to simulate the sucking motion, me trying to comfort him, reducing the time he was allowed to nurse at any one time.

We went from 4 wakings a night to only one waking a night. We will be dropping that waking soon.

Great luck with all of this.

Just wondering if anyone had experience with sleep training or night weaning while co-sleeping/bed sharing?

Simon has been sleeping with us since 3.5 months, when he decided to stop sleeping for more than 30 minutes at a time (he's 11 months now). It's a pretty great system for us, and has been totally the right thing. But he still wakes up several times a night (1-2 if all is well, up to every hour or so if not) and often can only fall back to sleep with the help of a boob.

Recently, though, he's started showing signs of being ready to fall asleep on his own, particularly for the night wakings. We really want to encourage this, but none of the typical sleep training procedures deal with a co-sleeping or bed sharing situation. Sometimes I think it must be impossible, but then I figure that folks who co-sleep for 4 or 5 years must have figured out how to night wean somehow.

Help me, Hellobee! Who's got experience with this?

Yup, this happened to me! I started cosleeping with DS1 when he nursed three times a night, and I just kinda kept my boob out for him to nurse whenever he wanted. He ended up nursing about six times a night, and my supply definitely increased.

I've heard it makes a difference so I would say yes, that is the reason.

Yup! If she's eating more, it will probably increase your supply.

My only warning would be to make sure you detach her once she's fallen asleep. Letting a baby sleep with a nipple in their mouth can be bad for his/her teeth, whether it's a bottle or a boob.

You bring your baby to bed with you?! Awesome! :D HAHA. I always end up with our LO in her bed (mattress on floor). Hurrmmm.. Not sure about the increase in milk, but! MAybe? When LO was 2.5 months old we went out of town and I had her in bed with me pretty much all day long. She ate and slept the entire day. I definitely saw an increase back then. This was what triggered her bottle rejection.. :P

Recently I have started bringing the baby to bed with us around 3 am. She nurses and falls asleep and about an hour later wakes up and does the same on the other side. Since starting this, I have noticed an increase (just an ounce or so) in my supply. Do you think by having her latched longer and more frequently in those early morning hours its increasing my supply?

Also - Please dont turn this thread into a bed sharing debate. I know many think there are safety risks, but we are comfortable with it right now.
