I would get the white Malm beds with the two storage drawers and get very bright and colorful bedding, rug, and wall decorations. It will look coordinated and intentional.

We have a hemnes daybed and love it! The storage is amazing and the daybed frame makes it feel like a little fort. It's also great for family story time. I don't care about matching unless it's an awful clash though.

What if instead of trying to match the wood you go for a colour? These Hemnes daybeds would be cute and give you storage: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/30349329/

This blue one is cute: https://www.walmart.com/ip/9-by-Novogratz-Bright-Pop-Twin-Metal-Bed-Multiple-Colors/38553524

Or this one is pretty light: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/80336386/

Maybe try white? I also think mismatched is cute! My son has a blue dresser! Our dresser in the master is brown, side tables are mirrored, and head board is an old teal coloured door! Just mix match :) or paint the dressers a cool colour and do white beds?

Don't match, that is my advice!

I had a similar situation with my son, he inherited a golden oak bedroom set. I didn't even bother trying to match a bed to it, instead, I went with a solid colored navy wooden bed. I love the mismatched look though.

I'm making myself crazy looking for twin beds for my kids!
I am going to move them into a shared room, so I want the beds to match. They both have IKEA Malm dressers in the light wood/birchy color and matching bookcases. Apparently this is super out of style, because I am having an impossible time finding light wood/birchy colored twin bed frames and headboards. Anyone have advice? I have looked at Wayfair, Overstock, Amazon and Target and am open for more suggestions...! Thank you!!!

I used a pegboard over the changing table (I use an old Ikea dresser). I'm not sure if hanging something like this would be an issue but it does give you a lot of good storage.

@ocean81: We ended up getting the Land of Nod Toby glider - it's dimensions are 30" x 35" x 37" (and I waited until it was on sale.) I loooove it - my son is 17 months now and we still use it every night to read bedtime stories before bed.

ETA: Annnd adding a photo of the glider featuring my favorite disgruntled 1 month old... I don't think this one made the Facebook cut, haha.

We made the guest room into DD1. We left the queen bed, so it can accommodate guests. When DD2 is old enough for a bed, we'll get a trundle bed, so both girls can sleep there.
My mom was here for 3 weeks waiting for DD2 to arrive, she slept in the queen, and DD1 slept on a twin mattress on the floor of the nursery. Worked fine.

We live in a small two bedroom apartment. Generally guests stay on the living room sofa with the understanding that they will have an early morning. We are currently expecting number two any minute and I just ordered a foam mattresses the folds in thirds for my mom to sleep on in lo1s room so I can be up nursing in the living room and not keep her up. It's "single" sized, so only 25" wide so it fills up pretty small.

We live in a two bedroom house. When we had our son, we kept a queen bed in the nursery, along with his crib. It's a little tight, but we don't do much in there, so it's fine. We considered a murphy bed for the nursery, and may do that when we buy a house.

When he was a newborn, he slept in a bassinet in our room and guests slept in the bed in the nursery. Now that he's in his crib, we sleep in the nursery when guests sleep over and they sleep in our room. Though, last week my step-mom spent the night and offered to take the baby overnight, so she slept in the nursery!

The nursery stayed our nursery. LO1 moved into our guest bedroom when he was 18 months old and we have a sleeper sofa in our living area. We offered to sleep on the sofa and let my ILs take our room when they visited for 2 weeks but they slept on the sofa. I think the same thing will happen at Thanksgiving. When the boys are old enough for bunk beds, we'll have them share a room.

Our guests use LO2's room, LO2 goes in a pack in play in our room. We sleep in the living room. It is the combination that works best for us at the moment. My kids wake up at 4:30 & 6:00 so even though my guests would sleep in the living room it isn't convinient. I don't want anyone else up with us that early. Two grumps are enough. Plus DH likes space to himself at night to play video games.

We hair turned our guest room/office into LO's big boy room this past weekend. We got rid of our queen size bed in there and decided to get LO a trundle bed (twin size). This way, when someone comes to stay, there is room for two to stay in his room and he can come sleep in our room on an air mattress. Not totally ideal, but we don't have a private guest space anymore like we used to.

We have a daybed in our finished basement but with the location of the thermostat its not really an option in the winter. We also have our couch or air mattress. We have LO1 in a full size bed so the plan is to get some kind of trundle bed option in LO2's room so guests could stay in LO1's room.

Hotel, we are in a two bedroom apartment.

My mother did stay on an air mattress when my first was born. We have a set of bunk beds and a trundle bed, so if someone really wanted to stay the can have the upper bunk or the trundle. We had a difficult enough time getting my 23 month old to sleep on the bottom bunk that I'm not moving him off it when anyone wants to stay in January for the new baby.
