I've been there.. My body has required surgery 2 different times for growing endometriomas on my ovaries. Lovely Stage IV endometriosis. 1st surgery it was the size of a soft ball. Second surgery the size of a grapefruit. We did have to do IVF for my 1st baby and ended up getting pregnant naturally for our second so miracles do happen. Don't loose hope!

@CakeLady: Thanks so much for sharing all of this with me! It's so hard to find other stories or experiences of myomectomies online! One of the bonuses of having this done while we want to conceive is that we can start trying as soon as my body has healed enough to manage a pregnancy. Hopefully this means we get a miracle before any fibroids grow back! I'm trying to be optimistic and look at this as the first step in a new direction, one with many more answers and much more information, than just another step in a journey that's been quite sad. Hoping for a positive outcome, just like yours. So happy you have your baby :)

@pachamama: People underestimate the power of nature, and the incredible power of the human body (especially the female body!). I keep reminding myself that women have been doing this since the beginning of time. I'm not the first to face disappointments and challenges, and I won't be the last. But I sure will be a grateful mother if I get to be one!

Your post brought tears to my eyes, remembering my own TTC journey. After a loss at 23 weeks, and two miscarriages, my heart hurt and I didn't know if I could go on. We had some testing done and were signed up for IVF orientation when we became pregnant with our son. Miracles do happen and I pray you get yours. Thank you for sharing your struggles with us, your writing was beautiful.

Gosh. I'm sorry. I had a hard time getting pregnant. It was the worst time of my whole life. The pain is all encompasing. But miracles can happen. All my hormone levels were quite literally off the charts and my injection cycles were cancelled,,, and that very month where my labs were the worst, I got pregnant by some miracle.
Our bodies can and will defy science.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I have two stories that may be hopeful for you, though I know neither will take away the waiting or the uncertainty.

I had a grapefruit sized fibroid almost 10 years ago, so big my OB thought I was pregnant. It was removed via myomectomy as it was causing some problems (pushing on my bladder, spotting) and my gyn believed I would not be able to get pregnant with a fibroid that size. I had an ultrasound 3.5 years ago prior to TTC and there was one new, small fibroid - only about 2cm. Fortunately I was able to conceive and the fibroid didn't cause any complications (I did have to have a c-section and got extra ultrasounds along the way). DS is 2.5 now.

My cousin also had many small fibroids and struggled with infertility, she had a less invasive procedure (laproscopic I think) and was able to conceive through IVF and has an almost 5 year old.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions about the procedure or recovery.

Hugs mama. I understand how you are feeling. I've been through a similar situation, I too have fibriods and my first pregnancy ended in loss. It took us 8 months after the first loss to get pregnant again, and it was awful in the in between time. I remember wondering constantly if my body was even capable of carrying a pregnancy, or if I would ever be able to get pregnant again.

I'm so sorry you are in this place and having to feel this way. I hope that I (as well as others on this board) can offer you support and kind words. Feel free to message me if you want to talk.

When we started TTC we didn't tell anyone. I vividly remember wondering if I would be one of those people who got pregnant immediately, and then worried about being ready in time. Little did I know we would have more than a year to prepare for our first pregnancy, which we enjoyed for only 8 weeks when I miscarried. Those who were really close to us and knew what we were going through tried to be supportive by sharing stories about other miscarriages, or statistics, or stories about conceiving just months after a miscarriage during that "really fertile phase". I suppose it helps to hear other's stories and statistics, but it didn't change our reality. A year after the miscarriage, and still no pregnancy.

It's a different experience to miscarry when you have no baby at home already, and have not yet had a successful pregnancy. I haven't watched my body manage the changes and new demands. I don't know that my body is capable of seeing this through. I don't get to look at a baby at home and know that, at the very least, I got to have one (I would do just about anything for just one). Instead, I have been wondering if that one, short pregnancy was the one experience I would have - and it ended in heartbreak, and no baby.

It turns out my body can grow something - just not a baby. Benign tumours called fibroids is what my body is growing. For most women, these are not a problem; for me, however, I'm part of a subset that experiences infertility due to fibroids. One fibroid is as large as an orange, and is likely disrupting the blood flow that would allow a fetus to survive. The miscarriage was likely caused by this, but could also have been a blessing in disguise. There are no shortage of stories of women who have had an early delivery and their baby died after just a few days of life. I'm grateful this was not my experience. I'm not sure my heart could have managed that.

Fibroids can be treated with a surgery. Unfortunately, the surgery weakens the uterus, so you cannot TTC for at least three months, but maybe as long as a year, following the surgery. More waiting. And more hoping that in that time they don't grow back.

And even then (the doctor and surgeon were very clear on this point) the infertility may not be "fixed".

Some things just can't be explained.

And that is where the miracle lies. Because no matter how much medicine knows and can do, it still can't quite crack the miracle that is life.

And miracles do happen. Even though sometimes you need to wait years to meet them.
