@oliviaoblivia: !! I was always asking my OB how big DS was because people (coworkers) would comment on my belly being HUGE but every doctor or nurse never said anything, I was so worried. But everytime I'd ask, she'd just say "average". And she was right, she does this all day every day, she knew. DS was perfectly average at 8lbs 2oz.
I feel like if the doctors or nurses comment on being big, they know! :)

@rachiecakes: I measured full term at 33 weeks. Every L&D nurse that saw me commented on how big my belly was. It made me feel so good. :/
LO did end up being a whopper (just over 10lbs) and required a c-section.

my OB said that DS would fall somewhere in between what DH and I were at birth because I was measuring average. He ended up being bigger than both of us but not by much.
Unless you're measuring unusually large, I wouldn't worry about it. Your grandmother with GD would have probably measured pretty big with a 13 pounder!

@shopaholic: We were told today that she is measuring right at 6 pounds right now, and that by the time they are ready to induce in 3 weeks, she'll have added another pound and a half. This may be off by up to a full pound, so we're predicting a little girl weighing between 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 pounds.

The baby weight estimates are highly inaccurate! 1 hour before I went into labor, I was told the baby weighs approx. 7.5 lbs based on a ultrasound. My baby weighed 9 lbs 9 oz and was born by c-section after being in labor for 48 hours. Had I known she was so big, I would have opted for the c-section much sooner! A word of advise: if you are petite (short) and the father of the baby is very tall -- you may have a very big baby. I'm 5'2" and my husband 6'6". My midwife had told me that my body will only produce the size baby that my body can handle. Wrong! My body barely handled the 9.9 lbs 22.5" long baby. All was OK in the end though. She is a beautiful and healthy little toddler now.

@Smurfette: and @ladyfingers: yes! She ended up with a c section but it was because the baby was too big to get under her pelvis bone. However she labored over 24 hours. :/

Not even close for weight, but we all knew he would be tall. At 36 weeks he dropped and my measurements were off with the doc, so he ordered an US. They were estimating the baby to be 9-10 lbs at 40 weeks... He was 6.11 at 39.1, but was 21 inches long. Whew!
