So with my first pregnancy, I didn't see an OB before I had a major bleeding episode. I'll never know if it was a twin m/c or an extremely large SCH, but the doctor I saw after I had the bleeding did put me on prometrium to stop the bleeding and it really did work. They dx'ed me in the ER with a threatened miscarriage/SCH. I had bi-weekly u/s's until about 18 weeks and everything was normal thereafter.

I had an SCH with bleeding, and on an ultrasound they could see blood in the uterus. My RE did not release me to a regular OB after the 6 week ultrasound, which is their norm, because of the SCH. I was put on modified bed rest, but the pregnancy ultimately ended in loss. There are many, many cases though where women with an SCH go on to have a completely health pregnancy.

In reading a fair amount about it, my sense is that sometimes an SCH can cause a miscarriage directly - especially if it's quite large or located in a specific place - but often the reason it's associated with an increased risk of loss is because they can also be caused by genetic abnormalities (though they are also often present in healthy pregnancies!). In my case, they found chromosomal abnormalities when they tested the tissue, which likely led to an abnormal placenta and hence the SCH. It was a relief to know that despite the bed rest and all that, there was really nothing I could have done.

I had an SCH and my RE suggested to up my PIO injections from 1 ml to 1.5 ml twice a day. I had some brown spotting so not actually bleeding. I had some additional complications like my water breaking at 28 weeks and went on textbook case of 6 weeks on hospital bedrest and delivered my twins at 34 weeks.

Sending her positive thoughts and hope everything is ok.

I would research placental lakes. They are scary, but often harmless. I'm assuming this is what he's mentioning. I had one (along with other scary stuff so this was the least of my worries, lol) - feel free to wall me with any questions!

This website explains it. Later in pregnancy it's not a big deal, but it looks like early in pregnancy it can be indicative of a problem:

My best friend is pregnant with her second child. This is also her second IVF baby. She has been seeing her RE for weekly ultrasounds, and has been bleeding heavily from the beginning. This is very similar to her first pregnancy, she was always convinced she lost the baby because there was so much bleeding.
She has a SCH again this time, diagnosed at her six week ultrasound. Last week at seven weeks the doctor said he didn't see any bleeding and told her that she could be released to her normal OB. She wasn't ready yet, so went back again this week and had another ultrasound. The doctor seemed a little more concerned this time saying that he didn't see any bleeding in the canal but thought it might be coming from the placenta. She's confused as to what this means and is now more scared than ever. Any insight?

I went to my perinatologist and they couldn't find a source and this doctor wasn't concerned once we ruled out placenta previa. I'm still pretty bummed out about the whole thing though and emotionally exhausted. I'm just glad he said the baby was fine/fluid levels are normal/ and otherwise everything else is good

I had what I thought was random bleeding at 32 weeks. I went to the ER per my Drs orders and I was actually in labor and didn't know it. No pain or anything. It was blood and my mucus plug, bloody show.
Good luck this afternoon, hope it's nothing!

@Pinkberrry: I had so much random bleeding with my most recent pregnancy. I had bleeding randomly through week 16. Then again randomly a few times around 30ish weeks. I always went and got checked at the doc to make sure everything was ok - ultrasound for baby and checking to see if they could find the source of the bleeding. Always it turned out to be ok and couldn't find what was causing the bleeding. One time around 30 weeks it happened over the weekend so I ended up going to the ER and they did an ultrasound and again everything was fine. I just had unexplained bleeding - good signs were no sharp pain etc. The bleeding would range from heavy spotting to a one time gush of blood that would get lighter over the next day or two. My baby was born totally healthy and is 9 weeks now.

For peace of mind you would probably want to get checked if the bleeding persists or if you start having pain. But most likely it's fine and some women just have unexplained bleeding throughout their pregnancy

I passed what looked like an old clot at 3am and now it seems that inhaling very slight residual blood that's very very light. I spoke with my dr this morning and he said to just keep an eye on it. I have an appointment with my perinatalogists already on the books for this afternoon so we'll see what he says. I also spoke with my doula this morning and she said it was probably nothing as well.

I had placental abruption with my third pregnancy, accompanied by heavy bleeding which was dismissed as "normal" by the L&D nurses and doctor. Everything turned out fine, think goodness, but I will be more forceful and getting checked out in the future.
That said, it sounds like you have a very small amount of bleeding which can be pretty normal.
It never hurts to get checked out just in case

I did bleed at 34 weeks. I had some complications (wasn't my first time to bleed that pregnancy and was extremely heavy), but they did tell me that it was common to spot when you first start to dilate. I'd still get checked out today, though.

The really scary stuff - I.e. Placental abruption - is usually associated with heavier bleeding than you are describing and pretty bad discomfort.

This evening I was doing my nightly floor stretches and when I sat up I noticed a small amount of vaginal bleeding. I have no pain and the baby is still active 2 hours from when I noticed the initial bleeding. I called my dr on the after hours line and he said to keep an eye on it however if it becomes more active or increases in quantity to go to the emergency room. The total amount of blood wouldn't have filled even the smallest pad but I'm obviously still worried. There is no pain, and I've been checking and there seems to only be a tiny bit of occasional blood (checking every 15 mins). Anyone experience this? I'm about 33 weeks at this point with no history of complications.

Never taken Provera...my doctor gave me Lysteda to stop/lessen my heavy bleeding. You should get your blood work done. My heavy bleeding caused severe anemia and I eventually needed a blood transfusion and weekly iron infusions to get me back to a normal level.

I don't think it's normal, so it's a good thing to use medicine. Hopefully it is just your body regulating. I had periods like this when I was young (13) and I had to go on combo birth control (I took like 3 pills a day) to get them to stop. I was also severely anemic by that point. It's awful, you might want to take some iron supplements so you can feel better.

This has happened to me twice after having my son. But I also need to note that I have PCOS and have never had a regular period ever.

My doctor gave me provera to stop it as well, I think it took about a week after starting the pills. What he didn't tell me was to expect another shorter, much lighter period about a week to ten days after stopping the provera. When I called he said it was my body trying to get back on track.

Did they do any blood work? Mine did a full panel just to make sure everything else was ok and that I wasn't anemic.

I'm almost 7 months postpartum. My first period after baby was longer than usual, about 3 weeks. This period has been the period from hell. It's lasted almost 4 weeks, with bright red blood, clotting, and has shown zero sign of stopping. I thought it was normal to have irregular or heavy periods after baby so didn't think much about it. Then I started displaying symptoms of anemia, so I contacted my doctor. She put me on a 10 day course of provera and said it should stop the bleeding.

I wondered if any of you ladies have gone through this, or what your experiences were taking provera to stop heavy bleeding. I'm on day 3, and still bleeding. Did it work for you? Do you remember how long it took?

She said this is really early to even say that's what I have and it's likely to resolve and not to worry about it at all right now (i.e. no pelvic rest or anything). But I guess it's a good thing to have a doctor who keeps things in perspective cuz otherwise I'd be flying off the rails constantly.

I just found out at 18 weeks that I have a previa as well and was also put on pelvic rest and told to report any bleeding (haven't had any so far). They will just monitor it for now and see if it resolves. I did read a study online that said 84% of complete previas resolve and an even higher percentage of partial previas resolve, so I figure that's a good sign!

I found out at my 20 week u/s that I had complete previa. I was basically told to prepare for a C-section. I had an u/s about every 4 weeks and by 36 weeks it had resolved enough that I was cleared for a vaginal birth. I didn't ever have any bleeding, but they warned me to be on the look out for it. I was on pelvic rest as well as limited in the amount that I could exercise. Hoping it resolves for you and you don't have any additional issues!
