i got the test--took maybe 1.5 weeks for the result, and i heard from my ob (i had done the test at the ob's office). i did not find out the sex of the baby, i didn't even know that was an option (our friend did, and turns out it was wrong--apparently it's not super accurate on the sex?). would do it again, but it's a personal decision.

@littlek: It took exactly a week to get ours, but I think that's largely due to the fact that the lab who processes the results is about 3 miles away from my doc (no joke). I hope you hear soon-I was so anxious during my wait, imagining the "what ifs." FX everyone here has super healthy babies!

@littlek: we got our results exactly one week later...and it was the Tuesday after a holiday weekend. (Memorial Day) I feared the Monday holiday would delay the results, but I guess we lucked out. My blood was drawn on a Tuesday night...maybe 4ish? I had a follow-up appointment the following Tuesday afternoon. When I arrived at my appointment, they told me the results came in that morning, so the doctor was able to go over them with us after my ultrasound.

I had the MaterniT21 test done with my last baby. We were living in Beijing and it was recommended because my first baby had Trisomy 18. It took about 2 weeks to get the results, a little longer because the blood work had to be sent to the US to be tested. We were told the sex of the baby because we are expats. Had we been a Chinese couple, they would not have revealed the sex.

@bunnylovesbear: Sending good thoughts and prayers your way! Keep us posted.

I had it done since I carry a balanced translocation between chromosomes 18 and 20. I am at high risk for having a child with Trisomy 18 and 20, had 2 miscarriages already because of it.

- Our genetic counselor recommended it back in September for any subsequent pregnancies, in addition to IVF w/PGD.
- We asked for it and OB agreed and blood draw was in their office. I believe the test I got was called Verifi? But it's the same thing, cell-free DNA.
- It took just about a week, maybe a little more.
- We already knew the sex because of the IVF w/PGD, but yeah, the report included it.
- It gave me peace of mind, but we already knew with 98% accuracy that everything should be OK due to PGD. This alongm with NT and sequential blood screening made us feel 100%. I think that especially if I had recurrent losses and DIDNT end up going the IVF/PGD route, or was of AMA and worried, this is a great test to get. What I don't agree with is when people just get it to find out the sex. But, I'll keep that diatribe to myself :-) No one here has said it, it's just a general opinion that I felt like sharing. :-)

I had this test done almost a week ago (last Tuesday). A choroid plexus cyst was found during a routine u/a at about 17-18 weeks, so my doctor recommended a follow level 2 ultrasound a week later. The cyst was still present, so while the doctor didn't seem concerned bc my early screenings came back as low risk for any abnormalities, we chose to have the materniT21 blood test done to (hopefully) just ease our minds. I have another followup u/s this coming Tuesday due to concerns about my cervix...not sure if they will have my test results then or if they will end up calling me later in the week. We're keeping our fingers crossed and thinking positively...

I had it done because I'd had a previous pregnancy with a chromosomal abnormality. Had the blood drawn at a lab (referred by my doc and a perinatal place she works with), and got the results within about 10 days. There was some confusion over billing weirdness, but I ended up speaking with one of their reps, who was really nice and helpful. The results showed everything was fine and told us the sex of the baby-- I'm holding my little girl right now!

I am over 35 and had it at 10 weeks. Just a blood draw at the OB's office. She called me about 8 days later and said everything looked good. We are team green this time but of course they also ask if you want to know the sex.

I'm definitely interested in hearing from folks about this as well!

I'm 8w, and just got the order from my OB to go to the hospital's perinatal center to have it done. So not sure who will tell us, or how long it will take!

I'm over 35, so my insurance is covering it 100%, I'm just hoping that I'm not going to get messed up on the billing!

And I think we're going to find out the sex- we weren't going to be team green to begin with, so if the option is available, why not? If you are TG, it's my understanding you can just not check that box on the form, right?

I had it done because of my age. The genetics dr gave me the results about a week later and we didn't find out the sex. Very glad to have the test done - it gave me great piece of mind during the whole pregnancy. Billing was a little annoying with it but I'd definitely do it again.

I had it done because I'd had a previous m/c due to a chromosomal abnormality. I was referred to MFM for the NT scan (my OB office doesn't do them) and they asked if would like to do the M21 test as well.

My bloods were done in October and no cause for concern then, so I've assumed any shortfall is being made up by the iron in my pregnancy vitamins. I didn't know they checked it with the glucose test tho, and I have that on Monday, so presumably I'll have more up to date info then. At least of all the things they could find wrong with your blood, it's one of the easiest fixed!

My OB automatically started me on 325 mgs ferrous sulfate at 19 weeks. My naturemade supplement is 65 mgs of Iron, which the label says is comparable to above. And make sure not to take the supplement with calcium! It inhibits absorption.

OB said around the halfway point is when the body really starts ramping up blood volume, so that's why levels often tank in the 2nd tri.

@mediagirl: I was surprised to find that a lot of grains are enriched with iron these days....most breads and pastas have about 10%. and I've started snacking on cornflakes....45% RDA of Iron! I'm not a red meat eater, so I've been hunting alternative sources.

Yup, with my first set of bloodwork I was told I was borderline anemic and had to take iron supplements. I did. Then when we did the glucose test my iron levels had dropped again so I'm on two pills a day now.
Just be sure you're taking the right mgs! Ferrous Sulfate mg does not translate to iron mgs! I think that's why the one pill I was taking was not helping. The pharmacist gave me the wrong info!!!

Yup, I just had my glucose screen and iron test today. Four weeks ago, my iron was at 14. Today it was at 9. They told me to go on iron supplements and gave me lots of iron rich foods to eat. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of foods on the list that I like...guess I'll be eating a lot of nuts and nut butters. :)

I had to take an iron supplement after the birth of my son. I took something called Floradix and it didn't cause any constipation, which is something I struggle with normally while on iron pills. If you can't find Floradix and you become constipated, try adding some ground flax to your diet.
