H purposely kicks her legs through the slats (heathen!), and we tried a breathable bumper and it basically became a game to her to kick it down bc it was so collapsible. So at 6 months we just decided to go with a real live bumper to try to tame her. I think at this point she would roll away if she ever got her face stifled into a bumper.

We had no bumpers and then LO all of a sudden kept getting her legs caught in rails and waking her up. We got the breathable baby bumper and this hasnt been an issue since.

We weren't going to use them, but from early on he would get his arms and legs stuck in between the bars, so we got this one:
http://www.target.com/p/breathable-mesh-crib-liner-by-breathablebaby-sage/-/A-10953560#prodSlot=medium_1_3&term=breathable+bumpers

We took it down once we lowered the crib the first time (~6-8 months?), by that point he had stopped shoving his arms and legs out.

We are still using our at 12 months, mostly to keep pacifiers contained in the crib. C has formed a love attachment to the shortsilky strings that are supposed to hold it in place.

We use the same one as @yin: and @regberadaisy:, and also never had an issue. We had more issues before we put the bumper on at almost 9 months old. She would get her limbs caught and would hurt herself.

I considered getting a mesh one but decided against it after Mrs. Jacks said that bumpers present more of a strangulation hazard (vs suffocation). Looking back, I don't think we would have used the bumper for that long anyway.

@yin, @regberadaisy: thanks ladies!! how long did you use the bumper for? wondering if there is an age when they outgrow bumping their heads and sticking limbs out! :)

@rattles: yes! I came across an article about Chicago being the first city to ban the sale of bumpers. Interesting huh? Gotta love online shopping!

@Mrs. Chen: I have no real advice, but did you know it's illegal to sell bumpers in Chicago? So I was told when I asked about them at a local baby store anyway. Online shopping ftw!

We used a breathable bumper, and it worked well to protect his limbs from getting stuck between the bars.

I know there has been many previous posts about this but thought I'd ask again! Do you use breathable mesh bumpers for your LO's crib?? If so, is there a brand you recommend? LO is five months old and rolling around banging her head on the rails and sticking her legs out the slits. I know bumpers are a no no but I'm considering possibly getting a mesh breathable one.
