Ah! Thanks ladies, I ended up putting some hydrogen peroxide on it a couple times yesterday and that seemed to help a bit, it wasn't any bigger by the end of the day. I wish I would have seen a few of these sooner! We took them back to their moms last night and told her to keep an eye on it.

unfortunately, this is what happens to me EVERY time i get a mosquito bite. Mine gets incredibly hard to the touch and really hot, and sometimes the skin surrounding it gets really hot also. There's really nothing I can do about it other than to do my best to avoid getting bit in the first place, or so the doctor says. My lifesaver is the cortizone 10 liquid roll-on applicator (http://www.drugstore.com/cortizone-10-hydrocortisone-anti-itch-liquid-easy-relief-applicator/qxp215062) I basically carry this in my bag (including bug spray with deet) ALL the time during the summer. It really truly helps when the itching gets out of control. As much as I love the summer, this makes me absolutely miserable. I'm battling three of these bites at the moment.

Cortisone cream will reduce the itch & swelling. Not sure if its kid friendly. I would think they would have a kids version. I've had spider bites swell to the size of my hand before and this has helped it.

My skeeter bites do that (it seems to be only a certain kind of mosquito, though). I usually use a benedryl anti-itch cream. I've found that the more you scratch them, the more they spread/longer they last. They are really annoying, but should go away in a few days.

If its a mosquito bite the best way to get it to go away (not just relieve itch) is to hold heat to it. Best is a coffee mug with hot water heated up in te microwave and hold the mug to the spot. But if you don't want to risk spilling hot water you can also just microwave a wet washcloth.

I usually apply a baking soda and water paste to my bites. It feels soothing and helps draw out some of the liquid. I have nasty reactions to bug bites, but I've never had one get that big though. If it gets any worse, I might call a doctor.

Do you have any witch hazel or rubbing alcohol? That sometimes helps my big bites. Some mosquitoes produce worse reactions. The ones with the white dots (I think?) are especially reactive for me. Call the ped if your worried about an allergic reaction.

I didn't know where to put this since our youngest is 6 and not a baby.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone has any bug bite solutions? I think he got it yesterday while playing outside at his grandma's. last night it was super small like a mosquito bite and this morning it's huge!! I think he finds it itchy, but I can't see it growing that much from itching.

Any advice on how to make this go down, or even if maybe it looks like something other than a bug bite? I'm not sure if I should take him to the clinic or not.

I use Bubble and Bee. You can use it on little ones because it's totally natural stuff like rosemary and clove. It smells delicious! And they are local to me to boot!
http://www.bubbleandbee.com/servlet/the-54/organic-insect-repellant,-DEET/Detail

I should say that most people are resistant to using an insect repellant when I bring it over, but they always smell it and then want some :). Also it works really well!

We also use California Baby insect repellent, and it seems to work pretty well. My LO has never had a mosquito bite using the spray, but I have been bitten on a few occasions. I have to make sure that every inch of skin is covered or else the mosquitoes will find the spot that I missed.

we use natrapel and it helps a lot. california baby attracts bees and not just because i am one! i read that in the reviews and sure enough when we were in our backyard wearing california baby, the bees wouldn't leave us alone.

i've used this one from all terrain on a toddler with SUPER sensitive skin and had no issues with it, but looking at reviews it looks like some people had a reaction (that can be said with almost everything!). i think different formulas of natural repellants would work better in some areas than others depending on the type of bugs there. we're inland in MA and it worked ok, still a few bites in the evening, but not nearly as bad as using nothing. it also has a 2 score on the skin deep database, so nothing scary =)
