@Chillybear: we have a sprayer but I was under the impression we didn't need to do anything until the poo changed consistency completely. Am I wrong? It's been working fine for a month or so.

We've been cloth diapering our daughter with BG freetimes for the last 3+ months and so far its been easy peasy as she's been breast fed so we just throw everything in the washer. However now we're starting to introduce solids mainly just once a day and we've started with a tablespoon or so of rice cereal, bananas, carrots, etc. So my question is how to i treat this transitional poop? It still has the consistency of EBF poop so i'm not sure swishing or spraying or using a spatula would really be effective. Can it still just go in the washing machine until we're doing solids more times a day?

1. I just did one wash with my FTs to prep
2. I never split my colors and haven't seen any evidence of bleeding colors. I have 24 diapers and washed them all together when I prepped them. Now we wash every other day or third day, so I only maybe need to wash about 18 diapers at a time.
3. I got Rockin Green as a shower gift and love it. I've never tried anything else
4. Cold rinse, hot wash with detergent, then cold extra rinse
5. I got ammonia stink once and used 1/4 cup bleach to strip my diapers. Now I use a bleach wash once a month and haven't had the stink come back
6. Someone got us a pack of little yellow deodorizer discs from BRU that I use on the lid of the can, but I don't really think they are necessary...

I think I washed 2-3 times without the pre-wash that I do when they've actually been soiled. I did one wash initially with only the dark-colored ones and a white insert to test how color-fast they were. None of them bled at all.

1. How do I prep the diapers? Just one wash!

2. Should i split into two loads - light and dark? Sassy, Ribbit, Albert, and Moonbeam tend to bleed a little the first few washes. I put them together and washed them like 3 times apart from the rest of my stash.

3. Whats your favorite detergent (bonus points if i can find it in target or supermarket)? Surprisingly, Tide Ultra powder. You will find a lot of Tide users out there!

4. What's your typical washing routine when you have a load of dirty diapers? I have an HE washer. My wash routine - 1.5 tbsp of Tide. I set it to bulky/large load setting, heavy soil, medium spin with a cold pre-wash, hot wash, and two cold rinses. Sounds complicated but it takes like 5 seconds to hit the buttons and its only one cycle :)

5. How do I know if i need to strip the diapers? How do I strip them? and how often? I do a sanitizing wash with 1/4 cup bleach once a month as recommended by Cotton Babies. I've never had stink issues so I've never had to strip, but if I did I'd do it with multiple hot washes. Some people say to use Dawn, but I don't want to mess up my washer.

6. Do you use any type of deodorizer whether is be a spray or a disk in the diaper pail? My son is EBF so we've never had any kind of smell. I store his dipes in a Planet Wise large hanging wetbag and wash every other day.

We have the 4.0 style, but this is what I did:

1. Prepped just once - regular hot wash with an extra rinse.

2. No need to split the load.

3. I use Rockin' Green, which I order off of Amazon.

4. I do a cold pre-soak, a hot wash and an extra rinse. My washer is a HE top loader.

5. I have used the blue Dawn method of stripping in the past, but I have started to use Funk Rock during the pre-soak every so often. It seems to be doing the job alright.

6. We use a little Arm n' Hammer disc in the trash can that we use as a pail and then we use Bac Out on the pooped on diapers. Amazingly, we've never had smell issues in LO's room.

@Chillybear: free times are manmade so I'd just wash once to prep

They are color fast no need to split

I've only used and liked country save its dirt cheap off amazon

I do warm rinse cold wash cold rinse. If you have a HE lots recommend to put in a soaked towel for the wash so it uses more water.

I've never stripped and only plan to do so if I have stink issues

I don't use a deodorizer but do spray bac out on poopy dipes now that he eats solids.

So after our shower this past weekend I completed my stash of bum genius free times and have accumulated 32 diapers over the past 7ish months. Baby is due in 3 weeks and i'd like to get them prepped even though we wont be using them for a few weeks after she's born. We have a a HE top loader and plenty of space in the basement or out back to do drying racks. So here are my questions and feel free to link any posts or blogs that would help me answer these questions

1. How do I prep the diapers?
2. Should i split into two loads - light and dark? or are they pretty color fast
3. Whats your favorite detergent (bonus points if i can find it in target or supermarket)?
4. What's your typical washing routine when you have a load of dirty diapers?
5. How do I know if i need to strip the diapers? How do I strip them? and how often?
6. Do you use any type of deodorizer whether is be a spray or a disk in the diaper pail?

Thanks in advance for teaching this newbee what to do!!

We use the Bummis bio-soft flushable liners. We've done both and I prefer the large ones. They're really big but I just tuck the sides and we never have a problem with lots of poop on the diaper.
I love them for daycare especially! I do not want to deal with poop crusted diapers when I get home from work. And I think it's probably more pleasant for daycare as well to toss the liners. We've started using them at home as well, because I felt like it was easier than a sprayer (and, like @skibobrown: said, it's not a lot of waste).

we didn't use liners til she started solids. we used the bummis ones and really liked them, but i got a tip that the viva "select-a-size" work really well (the paper towels!) and we've been using those for about a month with no complaints! they are soft and cheap!

We use Bummis small liners - the large size is way too large, the small size works great. We order from amazon.
