Thanks for all the recommendations ladies! We had a great adventure and DD did very well. DH had to drive her around to get her to sleep but that was the first time ever actually! DH has already bought a bigger tent 🏕 with plans for even more camping adventures this Fall.

We took DS camping for the first time around q year old I believe. Tent camping, no electricity. He actually did amazing for sleep. We brought a sound machine with batteries and his pack and play fit in the tent along with our air mattress (we have a huge tent ha) We followed his schedule similar to at home and he slept quite well but woke super early with the birds and sun coming in. I think that’s the worst part of camping with little kids: it gets dark super late and sun up super early. We brought a beach blanket and lots of easy to eat food like pouches. Prep all your food before if you can so you don’t have to spend a ton of time cooking. Bring a lot of clothes and layers like mentioned earlier plus toques. Bug spray depending on where you are. Really depends on whether and type of campsite you’re going to.

I took DS camping by myself for only the second time this summer at 3.5 and I think for tent camping, one night is enough. For future, I think we will look into renting a trailer for longer camping so we have a little more structure and separate space from noise and light to maintain sleep. We went to bed at 10 because it was still bright out and ambient noise was high as people were cooking dinner late, and up before 6 and he was verrry cranky that morning which kinda took the fun out of it. He LOVED it so much though, so worth it

Yay! What’s the weather like where you are? Especially at night? My biggest advice is to bring so many layers and to avoid cotton if you can as it doesn’t wick moisture away from the body, is cold when wet and takes forever to dry. We use polyester long undies, fleece jammies and a fleece sleepsack with a wool hat and wool socks for sleeping. The sleepsack is one for toddlers that has leg holes. He never wears one at home but was fine wearing one camping. We told him it’s his sleeping bag. For daytime we use fleece pants and a poly shirt with a fleece sweatshirt and wool socks. My guy has a super hard time falling asleep while camping so I usually get him all ready for bed and then drive him around until he falls asleep and then transfer him into the tent. He usually passed out in less than 5 minutes. He slept between us one night on our double camp pad and it sucked. The next night, I put him on the inside and used a fleece blanket against the wall of the tent to protect him from condensation and I slept In the middle. It worked much better. No real need for toys - we brought a bucket, shovel and a few cars and he was in heaven. Let me know if you have any other questions or anything! We love camping!

DH and I love camping 🌲⛺️🌲 and haven’t been since having DD. She’s now 19mo and finally walking, so we are going for one test night tomorrow. Any tips for camping with young toddlers? Sleep is my biggest concern. DH is desperate for any reason to go to REI in the am if that helps. 💰💰💰

We can't have cats (DH is really allergic), but anything and everything I *won't* do I've learned, I have to keep an open mind. And, just because I don't like something doesn't mean I'm going to deny my kids it, assuming they like it or want it.

Beach- I'll lose this one and probably break it myself, but I remember what a mess sand everywhere can be plus tangled hair.

I racked my brain all weekend trying to come up with something I'm vehemently opposed to letting my kid do... I finally figured it out.... Traveling Carnivals! Weird shady people, Rides that could fall apart at any moment, gross food, expensive games that yield cheap prizes..... Yet I have no issue with the ride piers on the boardwalks at the shore.

DH is very opposed to circus performances, I am on the fence but I am toward opposing it, so we are basically forbidding it completely. We are also not crazy about the children's museum we have in our town so we do not like taking him there. It is actually a lot of fun for him, but I personally disliked the way the museum is run. The admissions is very expensive. Parking is offsite and isn't organized better, and it could be easily an additional $10-15 even if you were a member to the museum. They don't have restaurants on site and there is no nice restaurants around, so it became such a chore to try to rip them off of the museum to go to eat, when there is nothing good around. Just the entire experience is fun for the kid but very miserable for the adult. Camping too. I guess it's because both of us grew up in a city where we just didn't have that culture of camping, and/ or parents didn't take us camping, so we don't quite know what to do with it hahahaha.

@MoonMoon: @lawbee11: My parents were immigrants, and in Central America sleepovers must not be common. So I couldn't sleep out anywhere. My parents said I had my own room and bed, why do I need to sleep out? I used to hate it. But now as a mom, I get it a bit more. I'm not super excited at the thought of my boys sleeping out. We'll see when the time comes. I would definitely have to know the parents well. There are just too many bad people out there in the world!

For most things DH and I balance each other (e.g I HATE roller coasters, but he loves them, so that can just be their thing), so there aren't a ton.

Though from the point of view of my childhood and what is very, very normal in my family, my LO will be strange in that she won't attend vacation bible school or church camp or anything like that, ever. Attending church occasionally will be up to her when she's old enough to make an informed decision, but she's not going to those types of high pressure, isolating religious environments.

Wow, I'm so surprised by all of the no camping! Camping is blissful for me, and I can't wait to take our kids!

I can't really think of anything I'm opposed enough to that I'll never let my child do it.

Weird. I'm totally okay with everything here.

I used to be allowed to go outside and hang out with friends until dark. I'd be anywhere in the neighbourhood, walk the railroad tracks, explore the next neighbourhood over, hang out at the ravine... for HOURS, without checking in with my folks. No cells phones or anything.

DH used to be able to roam the streets... he was like 10 and staying out around 3am at night unsupervised.

No way our kids would be allowed to do that without some sort of GPS tracking device or pager ROFL
