I put together a bunch of Target deals something like - 20% off Chico car seats, + 15% off baby stuff + $25 off $150 purchase + 5% off with red card. It was just one of those days where all the stars aligned.

I'm starting to look around for a convertible car seat for DS. He's 3.5 months, 26 inches and 17 pounds. We have a while to go before he exceeds the safety ratings of our infant seat but I want to get a good deal on the nextfit, so I figured I might as well start looking now. Ideally I would want to transition him before a 12 hour road trip we have planned in August, so we can't waituntil Black Friday.

Anyway, how much did you pay for the nextfit and where did you get it? Any tips on getting a great deal?

Sounds good to me! I had a friend get a crazy good deal by combining a Target sale plus Target $x off baby purchase of $y or more plus Red Card 5% off...but you would have to wait a long time for that to come along again. I think I bought both mine with 20% off at Target and Babies R Us. We love it, although I agree that strap-tightening takes some muscle.

@grizz: I actually feel like my straps have gotten way easier-- not, like, super easy, but not like when I hated them in the beginning. Sometimes I even over tighten them (oops, sorry C, you like to breath?) The biggest thing that fixed it was moving the back up to the second lowest height position- at the lowest spot, it was like her back was holding the straps and keeping them from tightening. But I think your LO is bigger than mine so you probably aren't on the lowest setting anyway. It helps to push the shoulder covers down a little and not snap the chest clip until I tighten the straps most of the way, then snap the chest clip, adjust the covers, then tighten a bit more if needed. And pull the strap towards baby, not away, like you would in an infant seat. Are you already doing all of that? We have a newer one that came with the improved covers.

I don't think it's a *great* deal but I also don't think you will do much better, so you are probably better off just getting it. We got it at BBB and used a 20% off coupon, I think, but did pay tax. We could have driven up to NH to skip the tax but would have paid as much in gas.

I was pretty unsure about ours at first, but I have decided I really like it, and it definitely fit best in our small backseat. Hope you like yours as well!

I voted "Other" - I have two NextFits and I hate them with a fiery burning passion. The straps are IMPOSSIBLE to tighten, even after changing the shoulder strap pads like the company recommended. They acknowledged it is a problem and sent us free replacements. A carseat tech came out and looked at them, and she said we weren't doing anything wrong... Just that it was a pain in the arse to tighten.

So my vote for "Other" means... See if you can find a demo one in-store somewhere and see if the straps bug you as much as they bug us! I think there are other posters here who had/have the same issue.

Our giant LO is literally a centimetre or two from outgrowing his Chicco KeyFit30 seat. We've settled on the NextFit (works with my little Honda Fit, we like the brand, heard good reviews from good friends etc).

It normally retails for 279.99. I found it for 223.99 at AllBee Baby. Is this as good a deal as I'm likely to find or should I wait a couple more weeks for Labor Day and potential sales?

What says the wise hive?

I've had the Uppababy Vista Car Seat Adapter for Chicco on my baby registry for a while (Amazon.com) and I just saw that it went down today to only $12.00 from a regular price of $39.99.

http://www.amazon.com/UPPAbaby-Car-Seat-Adapter-Chicco/dp/B001O0DEVM/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=PTWG4FX4YJQA&coliid=I2OACO1OMK5KOL

It's a great deal if you need one - this should allow my Chicco keyfit 30 carseat to fit perfectly with my Uppababy Vista Stroller.

Thanks for everyone weighing in. It seems like the majority online and now here would never have needed the extra weight/height allowance. Good food for thought.

@skibobrown: You're not alone, I kind of really like the pattern we have now over the one available for the 22 and it's probably influencing my decision way more than it should!

We got the 30 and are happy so far, but lo is only 4 months. My understanding is that the 30 refers to inches or pounds. I have a long skinny banana baby so i am hoping it will last until she hits the height, not the weight.

I wanted to get the 22 b/c it's lighter, marginally cheaper, and lots of people say their babes outgrow the carseat in length well before they outgrow it due to their weight. However, then I realized that the 30 comes in more colors and styles, and that sold me. So now we have the Keyfit 30. You can see where my priorities lie...

I registered for the Keyfit 22, because that is what we have available in Canada, but I probably would have went that way anyways, because I have gotten a lot of feedback that you can't usually use the 30 lb seats up until the maximum weight anyways.

As long as it's not an old model, it would be fine ... we have the 30 but also transitioned him before he got even close. He's been in a convertible for the past three months and is only now 22 pounds at 9 months. I would also make sure it's compatible with stroller frames if you're going that route for a stroller initially.

It doesn't seem to be available in as many styles, but I don't think its discontinued. Just a lower weight limit as far as I know. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong though, because if that is the case Regberadaisy makes a good point!!

My son just hit 30 lbs and he's over 2 years old! We transitioned him out of the infant carseat well before 1 year (probably between 4-6 months) because it got way too heavy to carry. Bigger carseat is heavier, too. I'm trading in my Graco snugride 32 for the lightest one possible for the second baby. 18 lb baby + 15 lb carseat = impossible to carry around, let alone launch into the car!

Is the 22 a older model? Is it discontinued? I ask because IF you were planning on having another there will be issues with expiration dates on manufacturing for it to be safe for the second child.

My husband and I bought a Chicco Keyfit 30 for our little one. I'd seen the 22 for a better price, but at the time figured we may as well go for the 30.

Now I'm second guessing myself. I've read so many accounts where children are out of the seat well before they would meet the weight/height restrictions and I'm wondering if I should exchange it for the 22 and save myself a little money.

Thoughts?
