@Mrs. Pen: Since first reading & replying I've pretty much decided that we're going to anchor EVERYTHING and I don't really care if we lose our deposit. We'll putty up the holes & go from there... it's worth it in my book.

my gosh... I couldn't even read the whole thing... I am dying in side.

We mounted our TV for this very reason... actually it was all thanks to Mr. Bee's post awhile back and then reading the TV safety website.

@rachiecakes: @runsyellowlites: We bought a bookcase with anchors and I didn't even think to ask the landlord about whether we can anchor or not... I guess it will be worth it to lose our deposit for a little peace of mind.

The crazy thing is the size of the dresser that fell on her - It was a tiny baby dresser... my god.. We've talked about securing the larger pieces but not his dresser.

Wow - there are definitely some big things in the house that I knew we would have to anchor, but I never would have thought about a dresser so small. It looks so sturdy.

My furniture is secured because a dresser fell on me as a child. I was trying to get something from the top, and used the drawers like stairs. The dresser toppled over one me and the glass mirror above it shattered all around me. My mom heard the crash, ran into the room, and could not see me under the dresser/broken glass. She said that she was sure I was dead and was hysterical. Luckily I was somehow unharmed.... but yeah, I can only imagine. When we moved to our new house, I had everything anchored, even though I was still pregnant.

There was an article on CNN (maybe), when I was super pregnant about the dangers of falling furniture. It has made me super paranoid and I'm kind of a nazi about it at other people's houses where my son stays. Stories like this verify that I'm not crazy and things can happen so fast.

I know a lot of furniture comes with anchors, but I never really thought it was a big deal until reading this.

I know our boys stand on their beds to open the top drawers of their dresser. It's huge and I'm sure could tip over. I always thought being heavy and full would always prevent that. Shouldn't be so naive, I guess.

I wanted to share this story since the author asked for it to be shared, to reach out to others about how important it is to anchor furniture to walls.

This woman lost her little girl because a small dresser fell on top of her. Her story is truly heartbreaking.

http://lovelightlaughterandchocolate.blogspot.ca/2012/12/be-with-me-just-for-today.html?m=1

I do think this was a freak accident, but ultimately, it really could happen to anyone and I don't think it's worth the risk when it's very easily prevented.

Also, what is your opinion on child-proofing and can you over do it?
