We identified friends who are named as lo's guardians in our will. We asked them in person, after explaining why we wanted them and how we hoped they would be involved in her life. It was a sweet moment.

Does anyone have godparents for their children without doing a ceremony? DH and I personally don't believe in baptism until a child is old enough to make the decision on their own, so we won't be doing that for E. We were thinking about doing a dedication ceremony, but are in the middle of finding a new church and it just might not happen until E is older. Did you just ask in person? Do it in a cute way? Thoughts?

I inherited several different carriers/wraps so here is my take on the ones that I have:

-mayan wrap (similar to a moby wrap, just different pattern and fabric) - I felt this was too complicated. The sheer act of having to wrap around and around your body and then put the baby in..it turned me off. I didn't want to have to do this every time I wanted to put LO in the sling.

-Baby Bjorn (air mesh version) http://www.amazon.com/BABYBJ%C3%96RN-Baby-Carrier-Air-White/dp/B000CGX7WU - we used this from 3 months until about 5-6 months. Baby seemed to like facing outward and was able to fall asleep facing inward. It was great for the summertime since the mesh helped air flow. We liked having this around in addition to the other carrier I will mention below.

-But the crown goes to Ergobaby. Husband and I took a week long trip to NY and were nervous about it. Ergo helped us soooo much, not only waiting in the airport, but also when baby got fussy in his carseat/stroller or on the plane. We slipped it on and he was able to fall asleep attached to me during the flight. Not only was it super easy to put on, it was easy to adjust between husband and I, AND it has a hood so it lets/helps baby sleep wherever you are. We could not have survived without it. I have even seen a mother nurse using it!

I love my Ergo as well...I used it without the infant insert when DS met the weight limit. I really like how easy it is to use, and maybe you can just get one and see how you like it before you get two. A mom I know that has twins and an older son, only has one carrier but a double stroller, so she has one twin and the older son in the stroller and the other twin in the carrier. She has a Phil and Teds stroller.

@tequiero21: well if it makes you feel any better both the Gemini and Ergo are probably the two of the best carriers out there, so either way, you're getting something pretty good. if you don't like one, you could also put it up for sale on craigslist and recover at least half the cost! congrats on the twins!!! I think you'll def find either carrier really helpful.

@NYCaliMama: thanks, very helpful! i hate how with every product, there's always some negatives, some positives. and i'm just not sure where i'll fit in the spectrum. =T and the fact that i'm having twins, i'm making the mistakes twice for my first time! so while i absolutely hate research, i'm trying to do some for these baby products so i don't overspend on things i end up not using.

@tequiero21: I do love the Gemini! I liked using it in the newborn stage without any kind of insert (unlike ergo). Versus the Bjorn, I also agree with your SIL's feelings and so far my babe is ok just facing in. Like you, I do just want the *out* option but haven't had to use it yet. I read some nervewrecking things about babies facing out and so I'm trying to avoid it... So far so good @5 months... But the true test is in a few months when they get even more curious about the world. The good thing is though, I think baby can look to the sides better (while still facing in) in the Gemini rather than the Ergo. Also, if they want to *face out* there's also the back carry when they are old enough with both carriers.

The reason I said Ergo is my fave though is because it really was easy to carry a 15lb+ baby well and for a long time without any/minimum parent discomfort. The Gemini can do it too, but not for as long.... then again, I learned that I just have to do some adjustments (actually loosen the Gemini) and all is well again for a bit. I'm hesitant about for how long I can continue with the Gemini though on the front, whereas at 6 months when I started with the Ergo with DD#1 I was confident I could use it for months, and I did til 12 months (then she just wanted to walk everywhere). Jury is still out on the Gemini though since Baby2.0 is still 5 months. It may surprise me though.

Last thing is DH liked Ergo more. Although I have a plain black Gemini, it's still not as parent gender neutral as the Ergo, if you know what I mean. I sold our Ergo, but I wish I kept it for DH/me while I could also keep using Gemini occasionally too. DH liked that the Ergo is sort of like carrying a backpack on your stomach, whereas the Gemini straps are a crisscross on your back. It's just a different feel and ultimately, like many baby products, just depends on personal preference!

Sorry for the novel ;)

@NYCaliMama: i know you said ergo is your favorite, but how do you like the gemini - i changed from the bjorn to the beco on my registry because it takes more weight (35, as opposed to 26) and you can do forward facing. i don't plan to hold baby more than 20 minutes at a time anyway. and my SIL stated that my nephew was so used to facing her that he didn't really care to face out anyway, but i like having that option.

@Red: I think the Beco Butterfly doesn't let baby face *out*, but the Beco Gemini does... However, also note that Beco discourages babies facing out for "too long" (I've been told by the boutique that sold it to me, "too long" means no longer than 20 mins at a time).

A good resource for those interested in carriers is the website PaxBaby. They have a carrier rental program... Great if you don't live near a babywearing boutique and want to test out a carrier before buying...

We used the moby when she was 0-3 mos, the bjorn air from 3-6 mos, and Baby Bjorn Comfort carrier from then on.

For comfort, I wanted the Ergo over the Bjorn comfort carrier but it was too "granola" looking for hubby to wear and we can tell that she liked facing out so we got the bjorn and am overall very happy with it. It is, however, very padded/bulky so it may not be good idea if it's gonna be hot where you are.

The Beco butterfly wasn't out when we bought ours but I think I'd get that if I had to buy another one. It's not too "granola", not too bulky, and baby can face out.

husband and I love the Ergo. I'm 5'6, he's 5'11. I like it because it has a zip up compartment--was really convenient when I was traveling alone with the baby. I put my plane ticket and driver's license in the compartment. I also like the soft organic cotton, it's super comfortable, you can wear it 3 different ways, it supports the baby's back.. etc.

We have a Sleepy Wrap (similar to Moby) and an Ergo. My son is 3 months old. I have used the SW a lot more than the Ergo. It is great for around the house and for out and about. My husband prefers the Ergo (although he has worn the SW around the house). In the past few days I have used the Ergo while out and about and I really like it. It is easier to put on quickly (the SW is a long piece of cloth that drags on the ground while putting it on outside). I have heard it recommended to get a SW for when baby is very small and get an ergo for later. I still use the infant insert with my large 3 month old. I would find a store, or a friend, that has them and try them out.

We're going with an Ergo and a Sakura Bloom ring sling. Ergo because hubs doesn't want to use a "girly" carrier, and because I think they're more comfortable with older children. Sakura Bloom because I wanted less fabric than a wrap (DC is so humid in the summer!) and they're beautiful!

We have a Moby Wrap and a Beco Gemini. I have used a few Ergos before. I was going to get an Ergo for sure until we had our little man. He is so interested in the world that I knew we had to get something he could face out in. That is the Beco Gemini. I love it. It does definately fit daddy differently. The Ergo can't be used without the infant insert when they are really little (at least not as written). So it never worked right for us. I think you just have to investigate what you need.

Also there is an online site that will let you try different carriers http://babywearingbuzz.blogspot.com/2010/09/baby-carrier-trial-program.html you can always do that and see what you like.

Depending on when your'e going you might want to consider heat too. The moby is HOT but as soon as it turned fall I loved it and she loves facing outwards and looking at the world. I actually don't have a moby but 4 yards of jersey knit fabric I found for sale at a fabric outlet. Cut it down the middle length wise and you have a homemade moby.

When baby was 2 months old and it was summer my favorite to wear her in was the ring sling. Easy to use and pop on and off, it wasn't as hot as the moby, and for vanity sake I thought it was a bit more stylish looking.

However, now that she's heavier the moby feels much better to wear her in. We also have an Ergo but she was just so pint sized for it at 2 months and they can't face out in the Ergo because the Ergo designer thinks facing outwards is not nice to the baby. However, even though Ergo is the least used, I do use it on hikes because it is the most comfortable for long bouts of babywearing.

The Ergo is awesome and has all the features you mentioned. With an infant insert, you can carry a newborn, and it's gender neutral enough for your husband. It is awesome as far as carrying a baby for long hours at a time because the weight is distributed more evenly onto your hips rather than your shoulders.

I've owned a Moby, a Bjorn (don't recommend the Bjorn at all), a Hotsling, an Ergo and a Beco Gemini... my favorite of all is the Ergo. The Moby is great too, but it does take a while to put it on and most moms (including myself), don't always have the patience for it.

Definitely try to go to a store and try a bunch of carriers on... a babywearing store, preferably if you live near one. Those are hard to come by though, so if all else, check out thebabywearer.com.

we have an ergo, a lillebaby, and a bjorn that we haven't used yet. The Ergo was great when Charlie was younger, but then once he was 5 months, he wanted to face out (which you can't do with the ergo), so we used the lillebaby. i actually want a beco butterfly, but i think the bjorn fits better on men than the beco and the ergo.

as far as wraps, they were harder for me to use (wasn't patient enough to use the moby and not really loving the maya wrap so far), but a lot of people swear by them. you just got to find the one that works for you. i'm always paranoid that the baby isn't breathing though, so i prefer the more structured carriers.

I decided by doing lots of research and reading through tons of reviews. I know I will be going for an Ergo baby sport. You can always go in to a baby store and try out the different carriers to get an idea of which ones feel comfortable for your height.

So reading about the baby carrying advice, got me thinking. There are so many options for carriers out there, how do you pick one? Moby wrap, Bjorn, Infantino, Ergo....how did you choose? DH and I are hoping to travel to Paris roughly two months after the baby is born and would like to wear him/her as much as possible on the trip. What's the advice for which carrier to buy? I think the Moby is great for me when the baby is small, but DH prefers one of the more stable pack-type carriers as they are less feminine to him. Any suggestions? I'm 5 foot 4, and I think height matters with some carriers and comfort? Thanks!
