My 1 year old shoves everything into his mouth automatically no matter the size, so I'm still cutting things up!

You can definitely give larger chunks. If your LO has some teeth you can even try something like a whole apple...they can't really bite off very big pieces. :)

@sweetpea612: my LO is 10 months and I only cut up harder things now. Like she can responsibly eat long spears of things or softer things now -- she can also nom on breads or crackers without me cutting them.

Harder stuff like grapes, raw fruits that are firm, or things like sausages I prep first by cutting or taking the skin off.

My LO is almost 2 and I have to slice cherry tomatoes and grapes in half. I also slice up other foods just to help her eat them faster. Like hot dogs and roast chicken. She COULD bite them but it's cleaner and much easier if I cut them up.

My son is 21 months and I still cut up large things like cherry tomatoes, grapes, toast, sandwiches, etc because I am worried about choking and he often doesn't chew his food well. I think I will probably keep doing it for a while!

At what age did you stop cutting up your LOs food into pea size bites? My 11mo daughter is about to join a co-op playgroup next month for 1 year olds. At a session I observed I noticed that the snack they serve (generally fruit, cheese and crackers) isn't cut up into tiny bites. Should I be transitioning her into bigger sizes of food to learn to take small bites herself? I'm so scared of her choking!
