@PawPrints: I pour about half the filter full for the first time and let it sit for a minute or so, then I just fill the filter full each time. It probably takes no more than 5 minutes at most to make. It’s a noticeable difference in the taste of beans compared to other makers, so so much better for whatever reason

@PawPrints: Thank you for posting this. We're in the same position and I've been looking for a coffee maker for when guests are over.

I've been looking into a Moccamaster, but got lost in all the options. I'll check out the Ninja.

Man in all the flurry of shopping over the weekend I totally forgot to even look for Black Friday deals on coffee makers. Looks like there are still some deals going on the Ninja on Amazon. Still expensive though when you get to the fancier models.

@PawPrints: you do have to wait for the water to drain in but my husband never did it as carefully as the instructions implied. It was like two or three times of filling it up until it was full, waiting for it to drain while doing something else. Definitely less time than the way that is supposedly the correct way to make French press!

@MrsB2012: The only thing holding me back from a chemex is all the instructions I find that tell you to stand there for several minutes very slowly pouring the water. Do you guys just dump the water all at once? That seems like a more reasonable use of time.

I got my husband the Ninja coffee bar for Christmas last year, and he has used it almost every day since then. On days he goes into the office, he makes his coffee directly into the travel mug. On days he's home, he makes a half pot in the carafe. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, so I can't comment on taste, but he really enjoys the convenience.

@HappyBaker: We have the CF087. It is the basic one I think--no frother. I think it is great though! We use good beans and grind them ourselves. Not sure if that makes a difference.

@HappyBaker: The model I have is CF080Z. It's an older one. I think the newer ones have 6 types of brews vs 4 and the frother is built in. The one I have the frother is separate.

@MamaBear87: Does yours have the attached or separate frother? The separate frother is tempered glass and can be microwaved so I usually warm my milk a bit that way.

We have a Bunn. The controls are very simple and it pours hot water over the grounds that is held inside the machine (the water you pour into the machine is then heated for the next pot). We get a full pot of coffee in a few minutes. We did have to get a flow reducer because it was initially pouring water too fast and making the coffee too weak, but that was a manufacturer mistake, so they sent it out to us quickly. So points for customer service with real people. We use a fine ground good quality organic coffee and while we aren't snobs by any means, we enjoy the coffee.

My full on snob friends who move on from pour over either made their own cold brew concentrate and a hot water dispenser or got a Nespresso machine. I don't know anyone who doesn't love their Nespresso.

@HappyBaker: I have whichever one costco carries. It does single cups and a carafe, comes with a glass carafe. It also froths milk, but doesn't heat it

@PawPrints: I agree that French press is better but this makes good coffee and I'm lazy so our French press doesn't come out that often

@PawPrints: we recently got a ninja. Before we were using a chemex for pour over. I think for the reasons you want to change, you’ll like the ninja, but the taste isn’t as comparable to French press. Definitely easy to clean the grounds and nice to make a bigger batch. It would be easy to keep your French press for certain days you are in the mood for that type thoufh!

Just got the Ninja in September and love it! I like that it has options for single cup, half carafe, and full carafe, as well as regular brew, rich brew, and iced brew.

Like someone else mentioned the carafe is kind of a pain to clean, but we usually just do a thorough rinse each day and then pop it on the top rack of the dishwasher every 3 days or so.

We have a bonavita. It is no frills no fuss. The only switch it has in on/off. But it makes damn good coffee. And the thermal carafe keeps coffee hot for hours. There apparently is an electronic version with has a auto function but the regular one is so dead simple it takes 1 min to set it up. Dumping grinds out it easy..takes cone filters.

DH and I almost exclusively make/drink French press coffee. The only issues are 1) it doesn't make a ton of coffee and we always have to make a second press if we have anyone over, and 2) we both hate scooping the grounds out into the compost bin and cleaning it. Is there a coffee maker that is easy to scoop out/clean, has option to make a lot at once, and still tastes as good as French press coffee?

I'm thinking about getting DH a Ninja coffee maker, so would appreciate any review on that one in particular.
