I put lo (9 months, crawls and cruises everywhere) in fleece lined leggings and fleece lined joggers and sleeveless onesies under long sleeve tops with fleece jacket or hoodies or a midweight jacket for now. Once it gets into the 30's and lower, I'll put her in actual coats, she has different winter coats of varying thickness. So lots of layering, it gets so cold outside here in Ohio and then it's warm everywhere we go inside stores, houses etc.

I've had 2 winter babies... DD2 is 10.5 months and we do

Short sleeve onsie
Long sleeve onsie or shirt
Leggings
Socks & Moccasins

Right now it's been enough to put her in a thick fleece hoodie (50s in the morning). As it gets colder, I have a fleece bunting from Columbia.

In general we just used layers. That way it was easy to go from inside to outside. I agree with the various one piece buntings, we had a fleece one and a snowsuit one. We also sometimes use fleece lined leggings - I know carters and target have them.

We were all about layers when we lived in boston! Pretty much always an undershirt/onesie and a sweater/warmer shirt once it got cold plus outdoor gear. We had snow pants for legs but only wore for the super cold or real snow. There are also some cute lined overalls and such for extra warmth.

ETA I guess we didn’t wear snow pants until walking. We had a stroller bunting too.

How cold has it been in your area? I'm in New England and I'm a fan of bunting for babies. Really easy to layer over clothes and covers the whole body. We have several in different thicknesses.

I love my daycare. They are the sweet grandmothers that insist on the babies all wearing hats :)

But the last few days, we've sent my daughter (7 months) dressed in a long-sleeve tunic and leggings with a little coat, and they've been wrapping her up in a sweater to be outside. So clearly I need to get her warmer clothes

My first thought is getting boring short sleeve onesies to go under her clothes so she has another layer, but maybe I should be upgrading her outfits to thicker material? Or better coats? What about her little cold legs? And how do I dress her in a way she can go outside and not roast to death inside?

I should just take this as an excuse to go shopping ;)

So how have you dressed your little ones for winter? Tips for still-crawling children who want to be outside too?

Anyone else's LO get a red cheek or cheeks when they have a cold? The most surefire sign that DS isn't feeling 100% is a bright red right cheek. He had this the entire winter during his back to back ear infections, and now gets it when he has a cold/allergies. He has all of his teeth, so it's not that. And it's not a rash, just one cheek is red like he is warm (and he only has a very lowgrade fever) Anyone else?

In response to your initial post, my DH came off his meds in early 2013 and he is sick all the time too. I asked him if he thinks its because of the medication - he doesn't. He thinks its since having E because she brings allsorts back from daycare.

Have you ever had sinus problems? Or been tested for allergies?

A few years ago I had pretty much constant head colds with a bout of bronchitis thrown in every month or two. It ended up all being caused by allergies and poor sinuses. I started getting allergy treatments and eventually had sinus surgery and my life is completely different.

I feel like i'm sick all the time. Currently I have a wicked cough that's been keeping me up all night and OTC cough medicine isnt doing a thing. Just since the beginning of February I've have 4 separate incidents of colds that I get maybe a week where i feel ok then I get sick again. I'm heading to see my Dr today and i'm just afraid she's going to tell me i have a virus and there's nothing i can do. I dont know anyone who gets sick as often as I do or have it linger as long as i do. I'm wondering if my immune system is permanently damaged when i was on Immune Suppressants a few years ago but i've been off them since 2012. Any ideas of talking points i can bring up to my dr?

Yup - DS is almost 14 months and I just use a hood because he pulls everything else off (still can't figure out how to get the hood off! Lol )

Although I did find this super soft tuque at the Gap the other day and for some reason he's ok with that one. I have yet to solve the mitten problem - but a friend suggested putting hair elastics over so they can't pull them off.

Stubborn little guys. No sense if personal safety at all! It's freezing here and I worry about frostbite.

Now if you find a hat/gloves DH won't pull off - I'm looking for those suggestions too haha

I was going to suggest a hat that velcro's under his chin but that was already suggested. If you're just going in and out quick maybe you can just hold something over his head until you go inside. Or maybe he'll realize a hat is actually a good idea after feeling the cold. ;)

I just warm the car up and cover her in a blanket. I don't think anything will happen from 10 seconds of a little cold exposure. She overheats in te car easily so I wouldn't leave a hat on her in there anyways.

I'm with Blackbird. For just going from the house to the car and the car to daycare, I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes you have to pick your battles and your LO really isn't going to get that cold in that short amount of time.

But then again, I'm also like Blackbird in that I'll wear flats with no socks in the winter and it is rare to see me in a hat (unless I'm going snow skiing).

I pick my battles, when DD would pull her hat off last year (around 1 year old) I was like "that's fine, but mommy is carrying you in and you have to wear a blanket over your head" she would cry but the option was a blanket to protect from wind or the hat. Eventually she would keep the hat on!

@Mrs. Bee: He does seem to be reacting to Elmo in a few books I have with him in it. That's a good idea. Thanks!

@blackbird: I do figure the time that he is outside isn't THAT long (house to the car...car to daycare). But I'm trying to remember he is a little human. And if I went outside this morning without a hat, I would have been cold and angry. I'm just trying to help the little guy out! :) And to plan for when it's really winter! This is just the beginning of the cold.
