I'm currently facing a lot of the same questions, even though lo is a bit younger, so I'm interested in responses! Like literally, I almost started a post with the exact same questions, aside from lo being too young for wcm. But I have a large freezer stash to bridge the gap. How is your lo doing with the sippy for water? We've tried putting milk in it a few times and she has done well - I just don't know if she's ready for it full time. Sorry this wasn't that helpful, but congrats on making it a year!!

@Chillybear: With my 1st my supply tanked at 10 months and guess what also happened - my cycle returned! I made it to 11 months and then couldn't pump the 12oz/day I needed so we started DS on Coconut milk (dairy allergy) at 11 months with my ped's concurrence.

He continued to nurse at home until I weaned him at 20 months.

ALSO: We sleep trained back in july and she has done really well sleeping through the night from about 8:30-5 since then. I'm kind of surprised that my supply is getting so low and i have yet to get my period back. (FWIW: I dont think i'm KU, i've been on BC since 6 weeks PP, no symptoms)

Our BF journey has had its fair share of ups and downs. We started off well once we got over the beginning issues, hit a low point when i went back to work, started supplementing around 5 months. She did great when we introduced solids and still nurses in the morning and before bed and I pump 3 times at work.

We're about 2 weeks from LO turning 1! and with our Peds "Ok" we started the WCM transition last week. My supply has been lessening for a while now and in 3 pumps i'm only netting about 6 oz (one 4oz bottle and 2 oz to mix with cereal) a day. she also gets a 4oz bottle of formula and 4oz 1/2 formula 1/2 WCM which we'll be increasing slowly. So far no issue tolerating the cow's milk.

So my questions....
1. If my supply is tanking, is she getting enough before bed an in the am? the last 2 mornings she hasnt seemed satisfied until she nurses twice on both sides

2. She drinks out of a sippy cup filled with water, should we also be making the switch from bottle to sippy for milk? If yes, recommendations

3. I'm trying out dropping pumps at work and only pumping at 11 & 3. Will i dry up completely? its really taking a toll on my day as we're entering our busy season but i'd like to continue nursing at night and in the am

I just want to be sure she's getting enough to eat nutritionally. She enjoys a wide variety of foods but definitely "eats to live" rather than "lives to eat" We don't go back to the Dr until mid Oct for her 1 yr appt.

Any other suggestions or bits of advice on making this transitions is appreciated!

My daughter was EBF, and at almost 2, she still refuses to drink milk or any milk alternative. She just recently weaned, but she didn't nurse very much past 18 months. We make sure she gets calcium and protein from other sources. I wouldn't worry too much about it. See what your pediatrician says when you go in for your LO's 12 month check up.

Our older daughter was mspi an she has never had any cow's milk. Goat's milk has many of the same proteins, so that's unlikely to be helpful. I prefer not to do soy because of the phytoestrogen effect. We did use some almond milk and rice milk, but they aren't overly nutritious. Our daughter didn't like hemp milk at all. She's just fine without any milks.

F will be one this week. For the past few weeks we've been giving him very small amounts of cow's milk (about an oz at a time) to get him used to the taste and he loves it! He'd drink much more if we'd let him.

Just in the last week or so, he's been having very frequent, loose stools (up to 5 a day). He's not otherwise unhappy, but he's got a mild diaper rash. I'm wondering if it's the cow's milk, so I thought I'd stop giving it to him for a few days to see if things clear up.

He is still breastfeed and drinks about 10oz a day at daycare, but I'm done pumping, so he won't have much breastmilk this week. What do I give him during the day? Soy milk? Goat's milk? Do need to replace the 10oz of breastmilk with alternative milk? We're still nursing at home, but his sleep is just getting good & I really don't want to reverse cycle!

I have a mild dairy allergy and had chronic ear infections as a kid. Got tubes in both ears at maybe 3yo? I was never given anything but breastmilk, goats milk, or soy milk as a baby or child though.

I think it could be related, as in the predisposition for the allergy and the predisposition for the ear infections may have the same genetic link. But I don't think it's a straightforward cause and effect. I do think food is powerful and nutrition and Dietary Changes should be used as medicine more often than they are!

My friends daughter has had many long ear infections until she got tubes. She is dairy allergic. She was adopted and formula fed (not a bad thing, just a point of how much dairy she had) and started milk at 1 year old. At 18 months they pulled dairy out of her diet. She stil had infections and even busted an eardrum the day before her tubes were put in. She is on allergy meds every day now as well.

I don't know about dairy and ear infections specifically but I do believe that food can be an interesting beast and affect things we don't think about.

I was just talking to my client about putting ear tubes for LO to treat his recurring ear infections. She asked if LO was allergic to milk and I said no (in fact he gobbled it down like a champ and it is his favorite). She then said there are studies that says milk/diary allergy could link to chronic ear infections, and I could take a look at that.

Does your LO have allergy to cow's milk? What alternative did you offer, and was it successful? Did you even see a link to reduced ear infections after switching from cow's milk (or cow's milk based formula) to something else?

we started milk at 1, but it took a while for him to like the taste. I say if he is willing to drink it and doesn't show signs of allergies, that's great. One of my friend's pediatrician actually recommended her kids to start trying cow's milk prior to 1 yr.

That's awesome that he loved the cow's milk!!

My LO is almost 11 months and I've mixed a little into his bedtime bottle and into his morning smoothies. I started this early because I'd like his bedtime bottle to be all cow's milk by a year so I can stop pumping.

I did some reading about introducing cow's milk early and most people say that paediatricians recommend 1 year because it's easier to say. A lot of sources say that you can introduce cow's milk between 9-12 months but it's not overtly recommended because breastmilk/formula should be the primary source of nutrition. All of my nieces and nephews (x6) had cow's milk before a year.

My LO has been rejecting formula during the day for a while, so I find myself throwing out a ton of formula because he won't drink it after mixing. Then when he started daycare at 11.5 months, I decided to chill and let them do whatever (he's in the 12-18 month room and kids there drinks cow's milk). He tried cow's milk in a cup happily! He gobbled them down during the daytime (with meals) since. I still give him a bottle of formula first thing in the morning and before bedtime though, which he'd drink 2-5 oz depending on what he feels like.

People say no cow's milk before 1, and I feel like I was being judged when I told my fellow mommy friends... but it just seems so natural!

When did you first introduce cow's milk to your LO?

My son is only 9 months old, so we still have a few months before we switch from formula to cow's milk. I was wondering how other 1-year-olds are tolerating cow's milk. Most of my friends who have 1-year-olds seem to not tolerate cow's milk (i.e. diarrhea, vomiting, etc). Therefore, they are still on formula or breast milk.

What is your experience?
