I started back in August and go twice a week! I don't think I have much to add that previous posters didn't already mention! Don't get me wrong, it will be a tough workout. It's a different sort of workout that your body isn't use to. I love it though. I'm not "OMG obsessed" but I really like the results I've been getting!

I wear either spandex capris or shorts and a workout top. I don't like to wear non-workout clothing (t-shirts, etc.) since they absorb the sweat a bit too much for me.

I don't know much about it other than my DH loves it. Be careful though. He hurt his shoulder lifting and his physical therapist said she sees crossfit injuries all the time. He has a couple weeks before he had go back and he can't wait.

A good box will emphasis correct movement and not speed and intensity. Like someone said it is scale able even down to preschoolers (and toddlers). I just taught two year olds a squat. It should kick your butt but in a way that you feel bad for two days and then want to do it again.

You should NOT pee coca cola after your workout. You should not be in extreme pain 4 or 5 days later.

Don't be intimidated! Crossfit is NOT (or should not) be the "military bootcamp"-type environment it sort of has a reputation to be. Every single thing they do in class is scaleable. We have a 60 year old woman at our box who has NEVER done the full workouts, but she's lost a ton of weight and made progress at her own pace, which is awesome. She started out doing push ups agains the wall, then progressed to doing them on a tall box, then to the floor on her knees. Point is - no matter how hard it 'looks', don't worry, the coaches will modify it for your fitness level. The important thing is you improve at your own pace!

Expect there to be a steep learning curve, especially with the olympic lifts. It's not intuitive, so often takes people a few weeks or even months to feel comfortable with the moves. Don't leave class day two thinking "I can't do this!" - nobody can at that point, just stick with it and you'll learn.

Wear whatever you'd wear to go to the gym! Sports bra, workout pants, t shirt or tank. Something you don't mind getting sweaty.

Good luck!

Any helpful hints so I don't die the first day? What do you normally wear? (so lame I know) Give me the details I need to succeed!

Thanks for all the advice and for sharing your experiences.

I talked to my gym last night and it turns out they've gotten rid of the 30 days notice requirement, so I can just tell them when I want to suspend my membership and it will be taken care of within a few business days. So glad to know that, if I feel like it, I can still workout right up until baby's arrival!

I worked out until 38 weeks and my LO was born via a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks.

I think it's kind of silly that your gym doesn't offer drop-in rates...what about a 5- or 10-class pass? I was fortunate that my friends just opened a new box so I was able to work out there for free as they were renovating.

Otherwise, I do know a few women who worked out until past their due date.

I went till 39 weeks and stopped when I stopped working (didn't seem appropriate to not work but keep going to the gym). He was almost a full 2 weeks late but it was easy (cause of working out). Working out post baby has been harder because of full boobs and the hours my gym had.

Of the PG women at our box, I know of two who were in the gym up to or past their due date. One girl currently is still coming in at 30-35 weeks, but is restricted on what she can do by her doctor. I'm at 26 weeks right now and still getting in 3-4 days a week, with increasing modifications, so I'll be following this thread.

Similarly, my membership rolls over about 10 days before my due date, so I'll have some kind of decision to make in May - we can pay to drop in though, so I may just do that, particularly if I'm not getting in more than 2-3 days a week.

i crossfitted 3-4 days/wk throughout my entire pregnancy. am 40+6 today & in labor. yesterday i did a wod & felt fine to workout (bc i was desperately trying to speed up labor). i was definitely overdue & bored. i switched to drop in once my monthly pass was up 3 days before due date, i would hope your coaches would accomodate your scenario.

i've always heard that women who stay active go late. the study that came out last year (i think?) makes a lot a of sense to me- the gist of it was that women go into labor when they reach their metabolic danger zone.

Watch me go 40+ weeks now, lol.

I doubled up on the bands because DAMN i am HEAVY and my arms just can't pull myself and the baby up anymore, LOL. They're awkward but at least my arms should look good in a month, right? Right? Lol

Still going strong at 35.5 weeks! I did Fran last night! Took me almost 11 minutes, though :P

All the Crossfit mamas at my gym delivered around week 38, by the way!!!!! Nobody I know has gone past 40 weeks!

I'd talk to them and see if they're willing to let you skate on the 30 day notice. I know our head coach is totally cool with an email that says, "hey i had the baby, put my membership on hold please!" because she wants me to keep working out as long as I possibly can

Statistically, if you're very active, you deliver about 9 days earlier than your due date.

Just wondering how long any of you bees who crossfitted during pregnancy kept it up?

I'm 34 weeks and still going strong (well.....with significant modifications) at the gym and intend to go for as long as I can. My gym, however, requires 30 days notice to put a membership on hold, and they no longer offer the option to just pay for drop-in classes, so I'm thinking that since the end of the month is upon us, it might be wise to give notice that I will be suspending my membership as of April 1. I'm due April 9.

Did you/anyone you know continue to work out beyond 38-39 weeks? I'm probably being overly Type A, but I don't want to give up my membership on April 1 only to go overdue and feel bored/inactive in the meantime. I've just enjoyed my workouts so much during pregnancy that I want to keep going for as long as possible :)

Should I just suspend as of April 1, or should I talk to them and see if I can work out some sort of alternative arrangement where I just suspend as soon as baby is born?

Alright, I'm sold. The place I'm looking into has an Intro series which is 5 classes over 1.5 weeks that last 2 hours each so that had me intimidated. I have run for years and done a few marathons in the past (although it's been 3 years since I've done one) but I'm not even in my normal shape yet post-baby so it's a bit scary! I'll let you know how it goes!

Everything is scaleable and most CF gyms have a beginners'/on-ramp program to help get you familiar with the core lifts/concepts.

I was SO intimidated before my first workout, but now, even at 26 weeks pregnant, it is still one of my absolute favourite places to be!

Crossfit is amazing! I have been doing Crossfit for 4 years although I've had a hard time getting back into it after having my LO in February.

I recommend that everyone at least try Crossfit once. It's definitely not for everybody as some people don't like being pushed to go faster/harder, but I love how it can be tailored to any athlete. Regardless of your age, size, strength, abilities, etc. anyone can at least try Crossfit.

When I first tried Crossfit I was running half marathons and went with my running group. I thought I was in decent shape but I totally got my ass whooped and I couldn't straighten my arms for 3 days! I was totally hooked though!

Do it! I absolutely love Crossfit - I've been doing it for more than a year an half and it really is one of the best things to ever happen to me. Any good box will give you good training to start and scale any movements you aren't comfortable with. When I started I thought I was in decent shape but had little strength. I couldn't do a pullup or a pushup. I've developed all those skills, added tons of weight to my lifts, and gotten involved in olympic lifting. Now all the coaches are helping me scale for my pregnancy. I really can't say enough good things about it.

I'll add that each box has its own personality, so if you try one and don't like it, don't let that discourage you from trying others in your area.

I know there are quite a few others on here who do crossfit so hopefully they will chime in.

Anyone do crossfit? I'm thinking of joining but am a little nervous it will be out of my league! I'm 5 months post-partum and have been running (3-4 miles) but haven't been doing weights in over a year. Do they tailor to your fitness level?
