@lamariniere: Thanks for sharing! I'd be very irked if my crown was loose after only a year and wonder whether my dentist did a bad job on it. I hope it goes well for you though and that this new dentist does a better job so it can last for years! :)

@cranberryapple: I am going through this right now! Saw the dentist last week and he said my porcelain crown is loose and needs to be replaced. I just got it last year! But I moved right after getting the crown, otherwise I would go back to see my old dentist. I am leery as to what is in there and just hope the whole thing goes quickly and smoothly.

@marionberry: Oooh, glad to hear a porcelain crown can last so long! I would not be a surprised if my dentist did a bad job with my root canal. He did a bad job with my crown and left too much spacing between the crown and the adjacent tooth.

@cranberryapple: I had a crown that was 11 years old replaced last year. Both were porcelain and it was a pretty easy process. If the dentist who did your first root canal did a good job, there shouldn't be much work to be done.

@KT326: Thanks for the encouragement! My crown has been worn down for awhile, and my dentists never pressured me to get it replaced, so I guess that's why I put it off. My gums are starting to recede as well. :(

I've had two porcelain crowns replaced. One was because my last dentist did a not so great job and on the other it was because my gums around it were starting to recede. At least I think that is why. I know it was something to do with my gums around the crown. It was a really easy process, I just hate getting the molding stuff put in my mouth. It always makes me gag!

You really should get it replaced! Especially if the dentist recommends it.

How long did your old crown last, and was the process scary/troublesome? Was it a metal crown or a porcelain crown? Was there decay underneath the crown? I'm nervous about what they might find underneath my metal crown because X-rays can't see through metal. Who knows what sorta bacteria have been festering underneath! :/ I've worn down my crown where the metal shows through but have avoided getting it replaced for years!
