My parents usually take LO overnight every 2 weeks but crappy winter weather and us traveling have been messing with that for the past few months. It's really important to us to keep our marriage a priority, which means time alone from everyone, including LO, so we don't drift into "just parents" territory. The more years that go by in our marriage, the more often we feel the need to go on date nights or even a night or two away. It happens when we get overwhelmed and have no time to focus on our relationship. We start fighting and drifting and so we have a date night to refocus, even if we don't feel like going or don't have much money to spend. It can be tough to find babysitters and scrape money together, but it's necessary to maintain our relationship. So, after that life story of an explanation ;) right now at year 8 of marriage with 2 kids age 4 and 18 months with both of us WOH, we have about one date day every other month (both kids in daycare and we spend the day out and about) and one date night a month, sometimes two. We haven't been out together, without little one, at all since she was born almost 6 months ago. My inlaws have offered to have her one Saturday evening so we can go out and DH wants us to go to see his friend's band in a dirty pub, with his mates and their other halves. Sigh.
