I was a tomboy growing up; I always wanted to fit in with all the guys. I'm starting to embrace my girly side and look forward to one day being a little girly with any future daughter I may have. I want any of my children to do the things they enjoy, whatever direction (feminine or masculine) it takes them.

I'm sure a girly girl but when I was young I didn't want to play with dolls but with cars and GI Joes.
I think you can certainly have a perfect balance. She might end up liking the girly stuff at 3 and you won't have the choice.

I don't want to have a SUPERHERO baby lover with some Spiderman clothes etc. BUt if by 3 thats what he wants, I can only limit the amount but will have to cave in ;)

I was a tomboy growing up because of my older brother and us being very close. He taught me how to use a baseball glove and catch balls just so that we could play together. He made me be goalie and padded me up just so that he could shoot (soft) pucks at me. I woke his hand-me-downs until I was in high school! HIGH SCHOOL! That's when I realized I was a girl. Now, I *try* to be girly-girl but ultimately fall back into my tomboy ways. With my daughter, she will play sports and go camping and totally rough it but also enjoy quiet play times with dolls (like I did) and be curious about makeup (like I was).

I was all tomboy. My daughter on the other hand can rock a tutu as well as her Real Salt Lake jersey. I like the diversity of being able to put her in a dress or her A's onsie and have her look absolutely adorable in either!

I'm a mix of both and I would probably raise a daughter the same way. You can be tough and play sports and have fun with the boys, but you can also play barbies, dress-up and wear make-up (when you turn 30).

I'm both. Love cars, building stuff, getting dirty, drinking beer, watching action flicks. As a kid I was pretty tough too--always climbing/building/playing with tonka trucks and such. I idolized my dad, I think! Now I like clothes and dresses and crafts all that, but I still like the guy things!!

I hope if I have a daughter, I can teach her to be self-sufficient and do what she likes. I know as a kid I always wanted to do 'boy' things partially BECAUSE my mom was always trying to make me wear pink, etc. I have another friend who went to college and went on to have a career in a very masculine field, which she indirectly attributes to her mother always trying to 'girl' her up. It can backfire, I guess!

one thing I can't stand is the occasional girly toys/shirts/etc that I see that say things on them like "I'm too pretty to do math." UGH. I don't want my kid exposed to that!!

I was an absolute tomboy growing up. My parents had a tire shop and I worked there from the time I could roll rims out to the junk pile. I'd climb trees, get grubby, whatever. However, I also knew how to wear a dress.
One memory I have is from when I was about 13. We'd gone to church and I was in a skirt and heels. When we got to the shop (an emergency), I went to help take a tire off of a car and found that it was too uncomfortable in heels, so I kicked them off and my dad came by and got onto me for ripping my nylons, still, got the tire off!
Now I'm pretty girly. I'll get my hands dirty if I have to, but I'd rather dress up and go for tea or make jewelry.

I'm both : )

I played sports growing up, like to drink beer, love my Red Sox and Patriots, and am very active now with my husband. We love to fish, run, ski, and all sorts of outdoor activities.

BUT, I loved princess stuff growing up, loved pink, etc. I also love clothes now, dress pretty girly, etc.

My sister tried to raise her first as a little tomboy, but she is almost 3 and is SUCH a girly girl. Tee hee.

I consider myself pretty girly, but I was definitely a mixture growing up. My only sibling was an older brother, and he wouldn't play with dolls or play house with me, so I tended to play with a lot of "boy" toys with him, like Transformers and Ninja-Turtles.

i think i'm with rock n roll. maybe more of a tomboy but i still had dolls (more cabbage patch than barbies)....i definitely want my daughter to be more tomboy-ish, but have some ladylike qualities.

I was kind of both. I wore only dresses and loved playing with my dolls and Barbies, but I ran around and played with bugs in the dirt and my brother's Transformers as well. I think my daughter will kind of be the same. Right now she's two and her favorite things are robots, dinosaurs, babies, and rainbows.

I definitely want to raise my daughter to be tough. I don't want to buy her princess stuff... I want her to play sports and go on adventures like scuba diving with me. I'm biased of course because I was such a tomboy growing up, but I had so much fun.

Are you a girly girl or a tomboy? Do you think that'll affect how you raise your daughter?
