Every kid is different. My son needs a lot of transition time. When he gets that, he is very successful at letting me leave (almost kicks me out the door). So the drop off and let leave does not work for us. I think your technique works. You have a ritual and even though she doesn't see you leave, you are gone and you come back. Sneaking off is tricking them (not saying good bye, not having a routine, waiting for them not to look and sneaking) and you aren't doing that.

LO started daycare a few weeks ago and I just give her a kiss and say goodbye. I think sneaking out would be harder in the long run. She is also going through separation anxiety right now and cries/clings to me during drop off which is heartbreaking, but I feel like she will adjust to it and would deal better with knowing I am leaving and not sneaking out.

I guess it depends on the kid but I could never sneak out - my kids would freak if they turned around and I wasn't there.

One day I dropped off the kids and usually kiss them and say goodbye - DD always says bye and is super happy - well one day I dropped her off and then forgot to get a spoon so I ran to the kitchen - when I got back 15 secs later DD was in full blown tears - the teacher said she was looking for me and freaked! So yes, always say goodbye.

What you are doing is perfect even if you aren't sure she totally understand you =)

I've never heard that you're not supposed to sneak out... I probably do that 50% of the time when I drop off DD because I don't want her to cry.
Maybe I should do some reading on this!

When I read about how to say goodbye with day care, it said not to prolong it or sneak out. I work in home and my child stays here with a nanny. So essentially, I'm just leaving the room. I say goodbye once in the AM when nanny arrives, and once after I BF her after her nap. What I have been doing is saying "goodbye, mommy loves you, i'll be back to play later", give her a kiss, then set her playing with a toy facing away from me, then leaving. Now she's almost 1 so I'm not sure she really understands that I'm saying goodbye. Is this still sneaking out? Do I need to have her face me and watch me walk out of the room? (Obviously this would cause crying, current approach does not usually.) She does seem to be getting some separation anxiety? I don't know if it's just related to her age, or b/c of the way I'm "dropping her off". when she's with me in the afternoon, she's very clingy - which is fine - but I don't know if it's because she missed me or b/c she's stressed out thinking I'm going to leave. Thoughts?

We send LO to an in-home daycare and I just give them a ziploc bag with the little frozen cubes. She will heat them up to thaw for a few seconds in the microwave when it is meal time in one of her own mugs (or I could send some microwave safe tupperware to 'live' at daycare. Could you ask if this is an option for your LO?
It is SO easy on me to be able to send a few bags of different kinds of frozen cubes. Then she just writes down in LO's notebook how many of what kind she had that day and when she is running low.

I made both DD and DS' baby foods. DD was at a daycare center which didn't allow glass so I just used small BPA free plastic containers (I think they were rubbermaid). For DS I am able to use glass because he is at an in-home sitter and so I use 1/8 ball canning jars. I pack the food the night before so it can start to thaw in the fridge overnight.

I make all of LO's purées and freeze in ice cube trays in batches. Every evening (or early morning if I don't get to it!) I'll put a couple cubes in small glass Pyrex containers for our in-home daycare. I send two containers, one for breakfast and one for lunch. We got our Pyrex containers at our grocery store but they also have them at target or Walmart for a couple bucks apiece. We use the 8-oz containers since that gives me enough room to mash stuff up and the containers really don't take up much room at all.

@Andrea - good point about the glass. I will have to ask our daycare provider about that. If she is ok with it, I think glass would be my first choice. Last longer and better for heating.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am really trying not to spend money right now - not working in summer also means not getting paid. But your suggestions are pretty inexpensive and seem like they would work well.

I use ice cube trays to freeze my baby food so I definitely should get something big enough to stick a whole cube in - so I don't have to thaw them and then put them in the container.

Any other suggestions definitely welcome!

I was thinking about just using empty baby food jars to send food to daycare each morning but then I will have to be sure to thaw the cubes the night before. What do you guys send homemade baby food to daycare in?

I have a teacher friend who pulled her DD out of a center and put her in a family daycare. She was such a chill baby that she hardly got any attention; every time she stopped by the center she would find her daughter in a swing while the other teachers attended to the criers. She was much happier with the family daycare.

Thanks everyone for your responses and support! We're meeting with the woman on Friday to sort out details but she's fine with part-time, although I think we'll have to pay the full-time rate. But as folks have mentioned, that's not too bad, considering her rates are so affordable.

If they won't hold your spot, I would enroll your LO and start taking him once or twice a week to get him used to it. There is a little boy in B's class that didn't start till he was 11 months old and he cries the entire time he is there because he has such bad separation anxiety.

i would enroll her and take her part time as people have suggested. This way you can slowly increase the number of days she spends there and by the time you go back to work she will be completely adjusted.
