@lisa1783: I'll try that. I have been spending a little to long in the classroom in the mornings.

My LO is just about 18 months also and we went through the same thing a few weeks ago. He would cry and scream hysterically and it was painful to hear him screaming as I left. I found though the longer I was in the room with him trying to comfort him, the worse it was. I learned to quickly bring him in, gave a kiss, and just leave. Then all of a sudden last week, he just stopped. He was at first whiny but no tears on Monday and by Friday he was willingly going to the teachers. Today he ran into the room and immediately went to go wash his hands for breakfast. It's heart wrenching but hopefully he'll outgrow it in a few weeks.

There is definitely a new phase of separation anxiety from around 18 months - 20 months. It affected our naps/bedtime for several weeks - she never cried when I left the room but she suddenly started crying around 18 months. She became super attached to her lovey at this time

My DS cried like this all summer for three months straight (he was around 20 months and has been at day care since 4 months). He was happy 5 minutes later for the rest of the day and happy at pickup. It was just a phase and now he doesn't even pay me attention when I leave (sniff).

@littlek: :( so hard.

We have been using transition objects like their loveys, food, etc. since we started dropoffs, with both of them. There have been mornings where we had to drop and run, hearing the crying as we leave :( but for the most part, they look forward to the transition object. For WJ it's a gummy vitamin!

The past two weeks have been ROUGH. B has cried hysterically every time I have dropped him off. He is fine after I leave and his teachers tell me that once I'm gone he is super happy and affectionate. But, man, it breaks my heart leaving while he is crying. I think he is going through separation anxiety. :( You think after being in daycare since 4 months we would be past the separation anxiety phase.
