A year ago she was sleeping 6-6, so the earliest she ever went down was around 540. Now she goes to bed at 7 and the earliest we'd put her down is around 630.

5:45! My son used to go to bed sooo early. He was always asleep by 6 pm. then after he turned a year it just started gradually getting later -- now he goes to bed at 7:30 and falls asleep around 8.

@gilmoregirl: gahhh I wrote a long response and my internet ate it! R has a similar daycare schedule--drop off is between 8 and 9:30, and pick up at 3. She naps amazingly for them, I don't know how they do it! Usually ~10-11 and 1-2, though sometimes shorter or longer (anywhere from 40mins to 2 hours!) and the times vary. I think she's only napped once 1 time since she started in October--and that was the only day she came home super cranky-pants! But, even on days when she sleeps beautifully and doesn't wake up until 2:30, or even after I'm there (she once slept until 3:30!), she still starts fussing and rubbing her eyes around 5

@Mamaof2: Thanks :) I hope this happens for us too.

@nana87: Ooh, I'm glad you chimed in. Does R get two naps in at daycare? We're still so early in the transition that I'm not sure how it will shake out, but his first nap has been late (like, after 4-5 hours of wake time), and I don't know how to fit in a 2nd nap because I pick him up by 3:30. I'm hoping we're not stuck with a crazy early bedtime until he can handle one nap.

lo regularly goes to sleep anytime between 5:30 and 7, and has fallen asleep at 5 before. i try to wait until at least 4:30 to start the dinner/bath/pjs/nurse to sleep routine, but sometimes, particularly on days she's been at daycare, she's just so sleepy!

@Ree723: I don't have science either, but my experience with my kid has been that he can't settle for bed if it's too drastically early, which is part of my hesitation. I will have to see how 6 goes and hope it's kinda temporary.

@Mamaof2: How did it change after the first few weeks? Did he start to nap a little more at daycare?

6:00 is my threshold for bedtime. My 11 month old routinely goes to bed around 6:00-6:30, and my 2.5 yr old also goes to bed around 6 or 6:30 if she didn't have a nap that day, otherwise, it is 7:00-7:30. I think anything before 6:00 is too early for bedtime as I just don't think body clocks are designed to go to sleep for the night any earlier than that. Just my experience though, no scientific research!

@Mrs. Lion: My LO seems to have average to low sleep needs (and figuring that out has helped night sleep A LOT because he's gotta get that awake time in at some point), but I think you're right that he needs an even earlier bedtime. Maybe I'll start by trying 6 pm.

@travellingbee: Our bedtime has been creeping back later and later over the last few weeks, and 7:45 has become normal. Maybe that's why I'm so thrown off now!

Earliest normal bedtime was 6pm...we were there for a long time (now he goes to bed at 7). On really overtired days we sometimes do earlier, and the very earliest was 445 one day that he was really sick. If my 9 month old was only getting an hour during the day I would definitely be putting him to bed earlier than 6:30, but he is a very high sleep needs kid and still sleeps 2.5 hours at 22 months. At 9 months he was sleeping about 5 hours during the day, split into 2-3 naps.

My 9-month-old started daycare this week in preparation for my return to work next week, and so far the transition has been ok. He's definitely having some separation anxiety, but I'm really proud of how well he's been handling the change.

He's there from 8:30-3 right now, and so far has only been napping for one hour around 11. I'm glad he's napping at all, but it has made for very, very difficult evenings. I have moved bedtime up by an hour to 6:30, but I think that's too late.

I just can't get my head around an even earlier bedtime. What is the earliest your LO has gone to bed, even just temporarily?
