@Mrs Green Grass: thank you for your response! I am going to ask Neuro their thoughts on Tuesday. That group is out of the same hospital as the developmental group so hopefully they will have some insight.

@MrsRcCar: it's an OT and the Ped and they basically do developmental activities to assess where he's at for fine motor gross motor language, etc. I enjoy them because I like to have a check in with someone who "knows." My reg ped is great too, but this one specializes in preemie follow-up through four years after birth. (She was also one of the four docs in the NICU.)

@mrbee: our EI services are decent at best. So I am looking for a more consistent treatment plan.
@Mrs. Jacks: thank you for the insight.
@MrsMccarthy: our pediatrician is great at listening to our concerns and trying to help us get services. However we live in Podunk now where.
@Mrs Green Grass: how do your appointments go?

We go to the developmental Ped for periodic checks, about every 4-6 months during year one and now I think just once a year. I think it's worth it to go there occasionally!

Trust your instincts! Many pediatricians although wonderful with general health can miss more subtle issues in children. They only see your child for a brief time and even with the questionnaires they gave us I found that it was up to me to look further into my sons delays.

Usually you keep on with your regular pediatrician and think of the developmental pediatrician as a specialist who augments the work of your generalist.

@MrsRcCar: Developmental/Behavioral pediatricians are great at assessing delays and helping with behavioral issues!

http://www.hellobee.com/2013/04/15/pediatricians-and-beyond/

We found that our main pediatrician wasn't that knowledgable about this stuff, and started to look into alternatives... but in the end, we were able to get the info we needed through Early Intervention and our own research.

Could any of you wonderful bees clue me in on the differences between a regular pediatrician and a development pediatrician? I am at a cross roads with what's best for my boys and I am trying to decide if the two hour commute the developmental pediatrician is worth it.
