Hi all! I am new to this section of Hellobee although I have been reading the blog since my 4.5 year old was a newborn.

Anyway, I've been off depo-provera for about 2 years and lived with the heavy and irregular periods. Next cycle I'm going to start clomid and I was wondering if anyone has done so and if you were successful. Would love to hear stories and how your body reacted to clomid!

Don't use it if you want kids anytime in the near future. Both times coming off of it, I didn't get a cycle for 7 months. Also, I noticed some weight gain and the I between spotting was annoying (but that wasn't terrible).

I didn't notice any change in mood coming off of it, but it definitely caused (or at least contributed) to slight weight gain (less than 10lbs in the year or so I took it-- not a big deal to me, honestly). I loved not having a period. But it took a very long time to get a cycle again after I went off of it. I want to say I went another almost 8 months with no period. So it delayed our TTC longer than we would have preferred.

I had 3 doses of it last year. It was great while I was on it - no bleeding, no weight gain. But I've had issues after coming off it (I'm not sure if the issues were related to the depo or my bleeding disorder or a mix of both) But I've been bleeding pretty much non-stop since August. So personally I will never use depo again. But I think it's all up to the individual.

I was on it for 9 years.

I had the generic version of it prescribed twice (in a row) and thankfully in those two times we figured out it was the generic blend making me mental. I came off it twice in that time, cycled back no prob. I did have an mc 5m after coming off it whe we began ttc, but know you are asking for it as bc. I plan to go on it again pp #2 as IUD definitely isn't an option this time, and the pills don't interest me, and we're definitely not careful enough for any less of an option!

My Mom always used to blame my moods on it, but I think I'm just moody and awful all around at times, no needle influences it, lol.

I used it for a couple years. It was convenient and it did it's job BUT when I got off of it, like @lilyofthewest, I noticed a great improvement in my mood. Indidn't realize how depressed I was on it until after I got off the shot. It was significant enough for me to never get back on it. My period returned within a month or two after getting off of it.

I used it for about 2 years when I was a teenager. I loved not having a period (or the migraines that go with them for me). I got off it because I was in a relationship where I didn't really need ongoing contraception. When I stopped, I dropped a noticeable amount of weight without really trying and had some significant improvement in mood. While I was on it, I was very happy with it excepting the hassle of getting in for shots. But in hindsight I do think it contributed to some weight gain and depressed mood.

Another thing to keep in mind about it is that it can have a very unpredictable return to fertility -- some women become pregnant if they're 2 or 3 weeks late for their shot. Some don't start ovulating regularly for up to 18 months after stopping it. I don't know if/when you want more LOs, but, that might affect your decision.

Other methods that I've used since (and liked even better!) were the NuvaRing (no go with breastfeeding) and Mirena.

If so, what are your thoughts? Any side effects? Would you use it again? 6 week PP visit is next week and it's time to think about birth control again!
