We have a Simple Human step on can like @autumnlove:, but the rectangular 45 L one, which is slightly larger (I liked the shape in the space better). We LOVE it!! Got it at BBB with a coupon. We also use a planet wise liner and it fits right in.

I've read that having no air makes them stickier. We use an open can with planet wise liner and wash every other or every two days and it works for us! EBF poo didn't smell and solids poo rolls off I to the toilet. We had a week or two of gross transitional poo but used bac out and were fine :)

We have a similar set up to jacks. A plastic tub with a big zip wetbag. It's great, easy to travel with the same pieces, and a nice place to throw any wet/dirty clothes in a pinch too (in the tub alongside the bag). Our changing stations are on the floor so a step can would't work for us.

Alright CD mamas, another question for you!

If you use a step trash can to store dirty diapers, which one do you use, and how big is the one that you use?

Or, if you have a method you love, please share!

I'm thinking of doing a step can with a Planet Wise liner.

Thoughts?

Hi ladies,
We are trying to buy the main essentials for our nursery now to spread out the expenses before mat leave. Recommend your diaper pail! I've heard of diaper genie and an arm and hammer one...

Which is the best diaper pail out there? TIA!

Hmmm.. You ladies all make such valid points! Our kitchen trash can is not that much closer than the outside trash can, and we seriously don't make that much trash so it only goes out maybe 1-2xs a week. I'm hoping we get the Ubbi as a gift or else we will try to hold off from buying one unless we feel we really need it.

I'm with @Joeysmama - we put pee diapers in a lidded garbage can (that fits grocery sized bags) and throw the poop ones in the kitchen garbage (which is taken out at least every other day) or throw them into the garage and then in then in the trash when we leave the house (we have an attached garage, and can do this b/c it's winter and they basically freeze and don't smell anymore!). I tie the poop diapers in a bag - either an extra grocery bag or newspaper bag, I dont find it to be a hassle.

We have the Arm & Hammer diaper pail and I was a bit skeptical because the diaper genies definitely do not contain the smell. They knock you out once you open the lid and you can also smell them in the room. LO is six months old and we've had super luck with this and trust me, her poops are naaaasty now that she is on purees. I have never once smelled anything, even when I open the top to put one in. I use it all the time and love it.

We don't have a diaper pail. Disposables go straight into the trash, poop and all. All of our trash cans are emptied every other day at least. I only put them in a separate baggie if they're especially stinky. But we don't have a ton since we CD during the day.

We are in a tiny one story house and use one. I couldn't imagine tying the diapers in a plastic bag because 1. that's a lot of unnecessary waste you're creating with all of those little plastic bags and 2. My LO is sooooo squirmy, I don't have time to sit there and tie a plastic bag! The least amount of steps the better.

I have a lidded bin that all the used diapers go in to and DH empties it every other day. I find that breastmilk poop doesn't really give off much of a smell so our system works for us. I imagine that when we start solids we'll have to put the poopy diapers out straight away.

We have one and we don't use it. Honestly, we very rarely change a diaper in his room where the pail is. We moved the pale at one point to our room, but we don't use it either. I find it easier to just toss them in the regular garbage pail, since we take the trash out everyday. Plus lo is ebf, so he poops less often, and they aren't as smelly as formula fed babies. Diapers with urine don't really smell.

@Crumbs: This is what I've read too. Tie each diaper in a plastic bag before putting it in the diaper pail! Sounds like a lot of double work!

@me0wmeeh: Thanks for the Ubbi review! I did like that it uses normal trash bags and the other reviews said it contains the stench really well! Hoping it gets bought from our registry!
@JoeysMama: @Mrs. Yoyo: Thanks for 2 votes for the Munchkin! I 'll look into that one too!
@HLK208: @lemondrop: I'm HOPING we can follow through with this mentality! I just saw my cousin and BFF just give up and start keeping them in the house...
