We used a wetbag in a trashcan... we would use a hanging wetbag when we traveled, but it was kinda a pain (like others have said, unzipping/zipping while changing the kid).

I think you'd be fine with a hanging wetbag as far as smell goes. We sort of do both. We have a step can in the bathroom with a pail liner that we use for all the diaper changes at home. But while LO is at daycare they use large wetbags each day to put the dirty dipes in and other than cleaning out the poop I just leave the diapers in the wetbags until washing days (twice a week) works for us! The only thing I would say is that having to unzip/zip the wetbag might be a little annoying - I like being able to just throw it in the pail at home but that's just a little thing.

That's what we've done, more or less, for the last year. I just hang large wetbags off the towel rack in our bathroom since I just change the kids on the floor. When a bag is full, it just goes in the laundry room. I've never had an issue with smell coming out of my zippered wetbags.

Thanks everyone!

I wasn't very clear in my original post, but I was thinking diaper pail/trash can vs. a hanging wet bag. I was curious how skipping a bin all together would go since we have limited floor space and I have a cat that likes to jump on our trash can and occasionally knocks it over. It sounds like people like both methods for different reasons, so I'll probably decide after we get all the furniture put together and see how much room we have!

We went from a diaper pail to a trash can that has a foot operated way to open the lid. With one hand on E and one on a dirty diaper, I wouldn't be able to open a zippered wet bag. The diaper pail openings aren't wide enough for our needs. Now we use it as a disposable trash one for wipes and such

We don't have one, never needed it! We use a regular trash and it's never been an issue! we do both disposeable and cloth too!

We have an open trash can with the wet bag inside. I was talking with the owner of a local cloth diaper store, and she said a little air circulation is good.

We used an extra large wet bag with handles, actually we got two to switch them out, and they've been great! Been using them for over a year and can only smell anything when it's unzipped. We do laundry every 2-3 days.

We used a trash can. And we have run into an unforseen complication: My son now puts his underwear into the real trash can. At least underwear is cheap. Have you looked at the Grovia pail? It looks a lot like a wet bag. If we do it all again I am buying one of those.

We have used an extra large wet bag (exclusively) for the past year and have had no problems. I am pregnant again and plan on using this same set up with baby #2. We ordered the wet bag on etsy and it has held up amazingly. Since being pregnant the first time (and especially now) I have had a crazy sense of smell and cannot smell it in her room.

We have a step can with a liner that I just bring down to the laundry when I wash, and I throw it in with the diapers. I love the convenience of a step can when my hands are full with a dirty diaper and a squirmy baby on the changing pad!

I'm planning on doing that on our lower level when #2 comes in September, but it won't be our primary changing place. The only reason I would hesitate is that after a while wet bags can tear or wear out and you'll get leaks.

Experienced cloth diaper moms:

Would you skip a diaper pail and just hang a wet bag off the side of the changing table? I feel like I have heard of people doing this, but maybe I am making it up. Would a wet bag contain the smell enough to be in the baby's room? My plan right now is to wash every T/TH/Sat or Sun because I will not be working those days, so I won't be going days with diapers sitting there.
