I would love to try EC but LO almost always goes while eating... so I'm not sure how that would work since I EBF!

I was so shocked when I went to China and all the babies have split pants and just go wherever. Someone came over and mopped up baby pee at the airport by us when we left, ha.

We EC'd with DS from 2 months on. He's been on a major potty pause lately, but used to only go on the potty and always have dry diapers. It has been a great experience! We are just stepping back and waiting for his cues.

@HabesBabe: Personally, we practiced EC with both of our kids and the only times we've not used the toilet/potty are in the rare occasion we're out somewhere a toilet is not available (e.g. camping, hiking, driving rural stretches of road, etc...). I'm sure some parents do allow their kids to go anywhere, but I think it's the exception for EC parents, not the rule.

@.twist.: ditto-- although i don't know of any people IRL who have done it, but i know it's not for us!

@HabesBabe: I would tend to agree. It's illegal to go outside as an adult, so...

I don't care if people do it, I just know it's definitely not for us.

I have no problem with it if it's done in the privacy of your own home, or at the homes of those who are OK with it. But having your kid piss/crap on the street, sitting on a potty in a restaurant, holding them as they go on the grass at a park-- I'm sorry, but that's crossing the line.

I don't think there's anything lunatic about it, but I'm not sure it's for us (especially the part about letting them go outside). I'm going to start using th concept, ethough, sort of--E has taken to pooping in the tub (5x in the past two weeks). He never really given any "I'm going" signs, but I've noticed in the tub he'll sit very still and look down, grunt a little bit, and crawl away, and then there's poop. I never manage to catch him in time to pull him out, but I'm hoping I can start to get him over the toilet.

@zippylef: Totally agree! I mean a bowl?! I could see that in a place where they didn't have toilets but WHY wouldn't you just take the kid to the bathroom? *awkward*

Well... it's not something I would do, but then again, I highly doubt my day care would be pleased with this idea ;) It just seems like one of those things that only some parents even have the option of doing, so I have no business judging.

@babycrz: @Honeybee: I would love it if one of you considered writing a guest blog about this for HB - I honestly know so little about it and am so curious!

I think this is, honestly, how we're going to potty train C. We're just going to diaperless.

However, if a friend brought a bowl to my house and then let her baby go in it in a corner instead of just going to the bathroom.... I cant say that friend would be coming to my house for any more parties.

I really considered this but just haven't really gotten on board. P had terrible tummy issues until after 6 months so I honestly don't think I could've kept up! Hopefully with our next I can start this right away!

Lol, a lot of people think we're crazy too! Or they think we're super crunchy hippies (I mean, we're pretty moderately crunchy suburbanites, so...). :) It works for our family, though, and personally, I love EC. It's been a wonderful experience for us.

Love the article! Many people think we're crazy.. even my husband wondered about my latest 'idea' - until he had to change less poopy diapers. He was totally on board then!
