I remember seeing something similar to this not too long ago. A girl documented her weight loss, but a website said it happened in a short period of time. The girl dispelled it saying that it took a year to achieve. It makes me feel happier about how long it's taken to lose the weight.

I'm not surprised. I know weight makes people feel worse, so looking sad and how you stand makes a difference.

I've read that the "after" picture is really before picture. So you have a super fit guy who takes a picture, then stuffs his face with junk to gain weight.

I notice some bloggers do this too -- they will take pictures in unflattering light and poor posture, and after they lose the weight they put on make up, use better lighting. Ugh, it annoys me!

I can see this. I mean: it happens to me all the time. I'll catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror after a soda and with my hair in a nasty bun and I'll look 5 years older and 10lbs heavier than I look after a gym session with my hair down and my legs lotioned up.

I've always noticed that the people are dressed in horrible clothing and have no makeup on in the before shots. But then they have nicer clothing and makeup in the after shots. So you just have to be suspicious of that. They should at least wear the same thing in doing a real comparison photo.

I hadn't seen this particular example, but there is one blogger I follow who always annoys me because her before and after pics use all of those tricks. This summarizes why it's so easy and so unhelpful.

That's incredible, I hadn't seen that before! I'm noticing more and more how pervasive the 'skinny' mentality is in our culture.
On the plus side, it gives me some great tips to look better in photos, lol.

I've seen that before - a bit of a wake-up call! I mean, Photoshop is one thing (and we are all aware of how much that is used), but these were simple adjustments and it totally changed how she looks. Definitely something to keep in mind when viewing all of these crazy advertisements.

My husband follows a lot of fitness stuff on Facebook. He recently came across this article, he feels strongly about it. Have any of you seen this?

http://www.businessinsider.com/before-and-after-weight-loss-exposed-2013-8

This trainer exposes some of the misleading before and after photos you see of people's weight loss journeys. I am in no way saying everyone does this, but, I guess just be careful in setting your own goals and making them realistic.

All this trainer did was put on a size bigger bottoms that fit better, a happy face, tanning lotion and did her hair and she stood a little differently, and she looks a LOT more fit and the two photos are only 15 mins apart! Totally crazy!

What are your thoughts?

Portion sizes and some exercise.
Don't do anything drastic, just eat reasonable portions, not too much junk. I would actually measure out portions for a few days. They have a way of creeping up!

In terms of exercise, do what you can! I'm a runner so I got back into that. Run, walk, do something! The weight will come off!

Would love to hear what other people are doing. I'm almost 3 months post partum and lost the first 20lbs by having the baby, but still have 15 lbs to get to my prebaby weight. Not easily done, when I can't stop eating cookies! I eat a bunch every day and they make me very happy.....sigh.....

I am also having a hard time getting motivated when my boobs are so much bigger than usual. I'm just physically uncomfortable all the time. Double sigh....

I did Jillian's 30 day shred and lost 7 lbs. It's only 20 minutes long and not very strenuous! I gained 50+lbs during my pregnancy. I have 3 more lbs to lose. :)

So I am apparently one of those women who does not lose that much weight breastfeeding and instead holds onto everthing she's got. To make matters worse, I'm a stress eater, and our recent struggles with CIO have just had me in the corner chowing down, even if it's on the few "junk" foods I allow in the house like Product 19.

In the past (pre-baby), my way of "resetting" after a particularly bad few weeks was to go low carb for a few weeks -- to break the habits, get rid of the stress weight, and hopefully get me into a healthier mode. The problem is that now, as I understand it, if I do low carb successfully (and send my body into ketosis), I'm producing toxins for my baby... so obviously, no low-carb for me. He's 7 months now, and I'm hoping to breastfeed until he hits 1 yo.

Any ideas for healthy dieting for breastfeeding? I'm already on WW (have been for years), just finished Couchto5K, etc.
