So I’m not sure if this is even an option, but Epicured is a meal delivery service for low fodmap. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis last summer and while I was encouraged to go on low fodmap (mostly because I was in a serious flare) I ended up not. The food options look excellent though. Even as a temporary thing until you can wrap your mind around it.

@maddyz: when I was on it I found that not EVERYTHING son the list actually affected me and my GI doc said it was just trial and error to some extent. It's not as convenient but try and keep it simple foods for everyone to start and you will get by!!

So DH needs to be on a low fodmap diet. We eat pretty balanced almost all home cooked meals and he has been gluten free for 6 months now and that was an easy transition for all of us.

I am struggling to figure out how to support his dietary needs while also feeding the kids. Some of this is because the list of low fodmap foods is complicated and not obvious and its all new.

I would love tips from others about low fodmap diets and also managing restricted diets in general.

❤ I might just need a pep talk.

@MrsGeePerez: I weigh myself every day, which is a terrible idea. I'm actually in a 4 day stall and it's super discouraging. But I promised myself I would try this method for at least 1 month and so I'll continue until next Wednesday. Then I may switch to pure calorie counting or maybe Whole30. I haven't decided yet. I was really hoping this month would be a jump start and I would lose a "quick" 10 lbs, but with this stall it looks like I won't make it. Maybe 8 lbs. I know that's good for 4 weeks, but this diet is so restrictive I was hoping for more. I haven't even licked a white carb or fruit in 3 weeks, haha.

I was definitely there (and will probably be there again soon). After LO, I lost all my baby weight plus an additional 10 pounds in the first year through BFing and elimination diet, then over the next 1.5 years, I regained 20 pounds. My weight never really stabilized before I got pregnant again. Now at 34 weeks, I've already surpassed the weight I was at when my LO was born, and I'm really worried that I'm never going to get back to the weight I was at before LO (or at least be able to maintain it, since I couldn't seem to after she was born).

I actually did get blood work done right before getting pregnant again and there was nothing wrong with me. I guess my post-baby body is just bigger. :/

Thank you all for your suggestions!

I've already been cutting way down on carbs and that usually helps so hopefully I can stick with it. I'm a chronic snacker when I'm stressed so I think if I eat three meals a day and stop eating things in-between, I'll be better off. I already eat somewhat healthy so it's not like I can cut out soda/desserts/etc and lose 10 pounds in a month (like my husband EYEROLL).

@RonjaL7: Sit ups and pushups in the morning/night sounds like a really good routine!

@peachykeen: I'm not breastfeeding, but my weight really piled on once I stopped at three months. I feel like I need a metabolism "reset" too so maybe I'll consider some intermittent fasting.

@Anagram: 6 pounds is some serious weight for only 3 weeks! How often do you weigh yourself? I get so discouraged when I see the scale barely budging, especially when I see others dropping weight like it's hot.

@Banana330: I should probably get blood work done, too but I've done it before thinking "I bet I have some serious problem that is the reason my body isn't losing weight"... nope. I just suck at dieting. :silly:

@My Only Sunshine: Sleep deprivation makes it so hard to take care of yourself. I'm very impressed at your loss!

@wrkbrk: I'm in the same boat with the photos. I'm sure no one else thinks they are as bad as we do but I know exactly how you feel.

@MrsGeePerez: Oh mama I feel you. We BOTH gained weight the first year of my son's life (he is 11 months now). Well, DW gained ten pounds and I haven't lost the last ten pounds so we are both AT LEAST ten pounds too heavy :/ I wish I had a solution. Not sleeping well, both working fulltime, lots of stress, we are building a house ... no time to focus on food. What has helped a tiny bit is just cutting out white carbs. But we have a long way to go. And I hate all the pictures I have with the baby which is so sad.

@MrsGeePerez: Me too! I have a 6 month old. In the couple months right after he was born, weight dropped off quickly. But then I started gaining again when I went back to work! I think a combo of sleep deprivation, not prioritizing exercise, and feeling like I can eat whatever I want since I'm nursing all contributed.

I actually just joined Weight Watchers last week and already lost 5 pounds!

My 'baby' is about to turn 5 but this happened to me. I lost most of the pregnancy weight after giving birth, but held onto a few lbs while nursing. When nursing slowed down I dropped the last few but 6 months later I'm 8-10lbs up from my normal pre-baby weight and it hasn't been easy. I think I'd have to make a major change either in diet or workout to keep it off. Before baby I had a pretty easy time losing weight. (I'm also over 30 now and my metabolism has changed, also life stress, no 'me' time, etc.)

I feel you. I dropped all my pregnancy weight in the first two weeks too and it all came back a few weeks later. I hoped when I weaned I would notice a big drop but I haven't. I'm losing reallly slowly right now but still 10lbs above my prepregnancy and maybe 25-30 above where i'd like to be. I'm finding it super hard to lose. I went and got blood work done to see if there were any other issues but got the all clear.

I'm less concerned cause we're trying for #2 and I figure i'll gain it all back again anyway soon. But after that I will focus more on it.

@Anagram: 6 lbs is awesome, though!!

I'm hovering right around 7-8 lbs down right now and the weight loss is slowing a bit. I try to think about it more as a percentage - that's almost 1/3 of the way to my pre-pregnancy weight  (I should really lose more than that, but it's my first big goal).

I sympathize. Bot pregnancies I gained 40+ lbs, and then with BFing I was so, so, so hungry. So I finally weaned my second at 13 months and she's now 14 months old--and I got a working scale and was shocked at how much I weigh.

Like you, I lose weight verrrrry slowly. But I just started being really vigilant about what I eat. Just 3 weeks ago, I started "Atkins 40", which is low carb but a new version that allows more carbs but only of "foundation vegetables". And you eat up to 40 net carbs a day as opposed to 20 like in the original Atkins.

So you might eat a 3 egg and broccoli omelet for breakfast, a cheesestick with some almonds for snack, romaine and spinach salad with chopped boiled egg, grilled chicken, bacon for lunch, and dinner might be a steak with cauliflower, and a serving of spaghetti squash.

It's slow going--some people online are saying they lose 15 lbs in a month. I'm 3 weeks in and have only lost 6 lbs, but it's SOMETHING.

This sounds exactly like me with all the stress and inability to lose weight like I used to. I don't even have time to get all the "must dos" done before midnight each night, so exercise was/is kind of off the table for now.

Are you breastfeeding? (only because that affects your eating plan) I have struggled to lose the baby weight (my "baby" is now 26 months, haha). The only thing that finally seemed to work was (unintentional) intermittent "fasts". We moved a month ago and despite not actually doing that much extra physical activity, I would kind of forget to eat every now and then. I would go back to my normal eating schedule and magically still keep losing weight! It might not work for everyone, but it was the only thing that seemed to reset my metabolism.

I also tried to cut out snacking as much as possible and wait to eat meals until my stomach was growling. Growing/feeding a baby had trained me to eat every so often rather than big meals, and changing this mindset helped. Replace the snacks you do eat with protein. Surprisingly, a little peanut butter ice cream after dinner has still allowed me to lose/maintain weight, but anything chocolate or grains makes my weight go up again temporarily.

So for me, basically - less healthy meal planning (go figure) and more foraging after I get hungry seemed to finally help me lose and reset my metabolism.

Good luck! It's so hard and frustrating!

I just had two babies back to back and am not happy with my weight, but feel the same regarding working out (don't have the $ for a membership and don't have much time). So I'm relying on little changes that are reasonable. Mainly portion size. I love food, so limiting portions is easier for me than eating all healthy items. I'm also trying my best to eat only veggies and protein for dinner (no white carbs unless earlier in the day).

Then I'll do little things like 50 sit ups and 25 push ups when I first wake up and right before bed.

Ahh! I've never been slim, but I worked hard during my pregnancy to limit overeating and was able to eat very healthy—lol with all that pre-baby time on my hands! Within two weeks after birth, I had lost all of the 20 pounds I had gained during pregnancy.

Little did I know I had the hardest baby ever in store for me and I barely made it through the first year. I was intensely sleep deprived and so stressed and miserable and I guess my only escape was eating, because I gained thirty pounds.

I was brave enough to step on the scale tonight and am shocked at the number! Making some changes immediately, but I don't know how to start with a 12 month old on my hands. Normally I would hit the gym 3-4 times a week but I'm not sure I can even find the time and expense for once a week. The weather is getting cold, too. I was going on lots of walks with my baby but obviously it wasn't helping!

I'm starting with calorie counting but I know my body is so slow to lose weight and I'll miss being able to work out when I want to.

Have any of you gained AFTER childbirth due to prolonged stress? I finally feel like my head is above water for the first time in a year... and the view is not pretty!

I'm relieved to hear about the Finacea! That's one of the products I use. We are going to see an RE in May and I have a feeling the other two Rx's from my dermatologist are probably going to be out. :( My skin was terrible during TTC. After 14 unsuccessful months I didn't to go to the dermatologist. I just couldn't get it under control on my own! I also love my clarisonic - it's been amazing for me!

I'm just finishing out the break-out period (since it cleans so well, your skin sort of freaks at first), but other than the few issues, it's feeling way better. Good luck!

My aesthetician, who recently gave birth, said glycolic acid is fine during pregnancy - it can be found in OTC products.

Since going of BC my skin has been, um, not so clear. I originally went on BC to control my mild acne before meeting DH. Even when I was on it my skin wasn't 100% perfect, but it was better, especially my back (sorry for the TMI!).

Now that we're TTC I'm trying to be really careful about what I use on my skin and can't use some of my old products, including my beloved Retin-A. What did you do/use to control you skin while TTC?

I'm thinking about cutting out dairy to see what that does. I don't consume much (I drink almond milk), but I do have greek yogurt every morning. Has anyone else tried this with good results?
