I do two shades of highlights every 8-10 weeks along with a base bump. The base bump seems to fade out between highlights so my roots are less obvious. But I'm mousy/ashy enough now that I can't be super blonde unless I double process.

@JennyPenny: I'm very intrigued by this!

I too have dark blonde hair and no time/money to get it done. I use the John Frieda lightening spray on my roots maybe once a month.

http://www.amazon.com/John-Frieda-Blonder-Controlled-Lightening/dp/B004DK7DVC

It basically makes my hair just a shade or two brighter. And it's easy to use whenever I start seeing roots.

I have similar hair to you and my hairdresser puts through 2 colours of highlights; one light blonde and the other close to my natural colour. I have it redone every 8-12 weeks.

I get partial highlights and vary the color depending on my mood. I like to get them done every 8-12 weeks, but I'm currently going on 3 months. It's not too bad when it grows out. My natural hair just starts to look much more dull.

I have a dark blonde. My hair grows really fast, so I have really noticeable dark roots starting at about 6 weeks from the last highlight. My new stylist has started doing a toner at about 6 weeks out and that will extend my highlight about another 6 weeks. It's worked and the toner is only $30, so it's much cheaper. I'm usually not a fan or toner, but she's good and it had helped a ton!

I'm a dark blonde/light brunette and just started getting allover color with really subtle highlights, which are actually to just disguise my grays lol. I just started doing this, because I just can't keep up with going to the salon (or paying for it). Now I go maybe 2-3 times a year and never have that "root" look. It grows out pretty natural looking.

I'm red right now, but naturally medium blonde. I highlight 2-3 times a year when I'm blonde, only on top, and every so often I add some lowlights in so it doesn't get too light. I think, if/ when I go back to blonde, I may do more of an ombré or balayaged look to make growout hide a bit longer.

I do high and lowlights. It looks natural and grows out well. I get it done every 4 months or so.

I have naturally dark ashy toned blonde bair. I like it lighter, but I HATE when it grows out and I just don't have the time and money to dedicate to getting my hair done every 8 weeks.

What's your routine for color/highlights? I feel like just getting highlights makes for a more graceful appearance when it grows out.

I feel like if I just get highlights, at some point most of my hair is going to be light, and when my roots start to show it's still going to be so dramatic.

I would love to see pictures :)
