Sorry ladies it took me awhile to replay. Life got really busy. I had to take my son to the ER but he is okay.

I actually went to L&D last night due to pretty painful contractions. They last for 3 hours but they stopped. They sent me home. I told them I felt like I had extra watery discharge but they didn't do anything or check. They made me cough for some reason at one point...maybe to see if fluid would come out and nothing did. So odds are it's just a lot of discharge. It's not pee cause it smells like nothing really. But who knows.

TLDR: Probably normal urine leakage or discharge, but maybe not. If you're worried, I would call your OB.
I had this, and I was concerned too. My OB nurse was not, and she did not test the fluid.
When I went to the hospital 4 days later in labor, I had been (with I thought was) leaking urine frequently for the last few hours, but it turns out my water had broken at some point. There was never any gush or large quantity, just enough to think "oops, I peed a little" when I changed positions. I did't know I was in labor until I threw up because my lower back hurt so much (my lower back hurt for 9 months).

I’ve heard that you can have a slow amniotic fluid leak and that can jeapordize the baby. I would get the fluid swabbed to test for amniotic fluid.

@cyoung: I had something similar the other day. I called my OB and she had me go to labor and delivery to make sure it wasn’t a rupture. I explained I never had this with my first. They tested the fluid and it was negative for amniotic fluid. Just an increase in discharge.

It's probably urine or discharge...especially in the heat. Lay down naked from waist down for 20 min with a towel under you. If, when you get up, there is a gush of liquid, then it's your water.

I swear I never dealt with this with my other two! They were not kidding when they day every pregnancy is different.

The past two days I've lost small amounts of plug. Not too worried about that. However since then my discharge had upped to the max. Like I dont think I'd fill a pad or anything but it's sometimes watery and sometimes not. I'm just so gross. I never dealt with that with my other two. I didnt lose my plug with my son till the day I was induced before I went in. I dont want to keep going in. I've had so many things go crazy this pregnancy, from two times of oddly high blood pressure to one day of reduced movement to one time of having contractions that stopped. I just don't want to look like the crazy pregnant lady.

Any other ladies have a lot of discharge at the end? If it was your waters leaking how did you know?

@jh524: thank you so much, that definitely makes me feel better! I am very cautiously optimistic that things are improving. Last night I had much much less when I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night and so far during the day it has been light to almost nonexistent and only on tissue.

DH has been amazing about keeping me off my feet and DD and I have done a lot of book reading in the couch.

FX that I have a relatively quick resolution like you did! I have been able to feel baby's movements which is some comfort :)

@hoogirl05: wow I literally could have written this post myself. I had bright red bleeding and a lot of cramping around 13-14 weeks. I chalked it up to overdoing it physically and I took a week off and it slowly went away. No exercise whatsoever and just laid around for a week. I had 2 ultrasounds and vaginal exams during this time and baby looked great and heartbeat was fine. My cervix was closed and dr saw no issues. Doctor didn't have an answer but did warn me it could be a sign of miscarriage but pretty rare around this stage of pregnancy. I also got a Rhogam shot for the bleeding.
I hope your bleeding and cramps go away and everything is just fine like my experience wth this about a month ago.

I just hope the MFM doc can find an answer, that's what I want at this point!

@hoogirl05: That's awful that it is ongoing like this but at least everything looked good today!
The placental abruption happened to me in the middle of the night. No one knows what caused it but luckily it was minor (even though it seemed like a lot of blood to me) and the ultrasound they did showed everything is ok. My next US is next week and I am curious if the dr will be able to see the tear in the placenta on it and of course hoping my baby is staying strong and healthy.

Update from me: Had another bout of dark brown bleeding this morning, seems mostly in the am after I've been lying down all night. And then goes back to nothing more than spotting for most of the rest of the day. My doc was definitely stumped by that one since it's more logical to assume being up/walking would make it worse, not lying down.

At my visit this morning, cervix was completely normal, baby and heartbeat looked great. She thought she could see a spot that might be the source of the bleeding on the u/s and I could see it once she pointed to it. So she referred me to a maternal-fetal medicine doc (MFM) and I go for a transvaginal (ugh) u/s there on Wednesday mid-morning.

Anyone else ever had more bleeding once they got UP from lying down vs when they walked or were up and about?

I had bright red blood once at 16 weeks. I'd had a miscarriage at 6 weeks with a previous pregnancy, which started with bleeding and cramping. I hadn't had any bleeding until that one occurrence at 16 weeks with my second pregnancy. I freaked out. My midwife office was reassuring, told me it was pretty normal. Went in to hear baby's heartbeat to reassure me. I was also already feeling baby move at that point, and I could feel her. No more bleeding or complications after that, and my happy and healthy 10 week old is sleeping in my lap.

@autumnleaves: ugh I'm sorry but in a way nice to know I am not alone. The hardest thing is not knowing what caused it for me. Went to the bathroom when I got home from work and I was back to a bigger amt of still very dark brown spotting. And since then, back to lighter spotting.

Calling the doc right at 8am tomorrow to make sure I get in to get checked. I have been having some dull cramping too, like the stretching feeling I have had before but still really worrisome. If all goes well with this little one he/she had better be an angelic teenager after all this!

It is so stressful and not what I expected either at 14 weeks. I am pregnant with LO2 and had a partial placental abruption at 14 weeks. So a different bleeding experience but very scary. It's been nearly 3 weeks since then - I haven't had any more bleeding but am taking it easier than I planned to in the 2nd tri.

With my first I spotted from weeks. 13-23. It was so scary, especially since I had a mc a few months prior. One midwife said it was a cervical polyp which is almost like a skin tag. Another midwife couldn't see it and eventually it just went away. It is super scary but a very good sign that everything looks great on the ultrasounds!

@kodybear: thank you so much. I was very lucky to have a completely uneventful pregnancy with DD1 but this time around I am becoming more aware that this must be pretty common. I also have to remind myself that the u/s tech has the baby measuring ahead, and we had a great N/T scan 2 weeks ago. But yes, easier said than done...

with my first, i spot/bled from 5wk-12 wks. it was bc of an irritable cervix (basically any little thing that touched or irritated my cervix would cause spotting/bleeding)

with my second i spot/bled from 5wk - 30 ish weeks. it was because of the irritable cervix again and a cervical polyp. the polyp was only easily seen physically, not through ultrasound. both were not harmful but did cause me alot of worry! i did have a short cervix on top of that but thats another story :-)

i think bleeding/spotting is more common than we think in pregnancy. esp at 14 weeks and a good u/s i would not worry as much (altho i know easier said than done!)

Hi ladies,

I've posted before about the slightly crazy beginning to my current (second) pregnancy and I really appreciate all of your support, and until last night, when I hit 14 weeks, I had a very happily uneventful pregnancy.

Warning: TMI. Last night I went to the bathroom before bed and was shocked when there was dark brown blood on the tissue and in the toilet. The good thing was that it was dark brown. I told DH and called me dr office. Fortunately, the wonderful doc who saw me at 4 and 6 weeks with unexplained bleeding was on call. She said to wait to go to the ER until the am or go now if it was really bad. Of course, their office is closed to day so I had to go to the ER to get checked - plus I am o neg so needed rhogam. There was nothing more than faint brown/spotting whenever I went to the bathroom after that so I went to sleep.

This morning there was the same larger amt of blood so I got my toddler and husband (told him I'd keep him updated but not to come wait with me) off to school and work and went to the ER. They were lovely and so nice when I was crying and scared.

So far, I'm cautiously optimistic after the ER doc sat down and went over everything with me. Baby looks absolutely fine, super wiggly and hard to get pics of him/her. They did a super long ultrasound and found no problems with baby/ovaries/placenta/uterus etc. And none of the blood tests came back abnormal either. Oh and I should mention both OB and ER doc said that the risk of mc was so low now they just didn't even consider it. But until the spotting goes away, I just can't rest easy.

So I'll get in to see my doc tomorrow, but my question is, anyone else have something similar? I thought with second trimester arriving I'd be in the clear, but apparently not!
