Just an FYI about max/fast passes, only certain rides are max/fast pass compatible. I think the only young-kid friendly ride that has max/fast pass is "It's a Small World" (and Haunted Mansion depending on your kid). So, they're useful depending on the rides you want to go on. :)

Hey, we're going around the same time as you guys are. June 8-10. My son is going to be 16 months old, and we're also taking my nephew who will be almost 3. I hear that they have 2 baby care centers that are pretty nice. There is one in Disneyland on main street and one in California Adventure. They have lots of changing tables, nursing rooms, a microwave, a tv area, and a feeding area with high chairs and tables. They even have teeny tiny potties for if you are toilet training. It's free to use! Definitely stop by one when you first enter the park so you know where it is. I plan to use them for sure. Good news, the castle will be open and newly refurbished. Pretty sure you'll be able to see it! Star Wars Land is by reservation only so I don't think it will affect the crowds that much. All the reservations are booked up too. definitely buy your tickets ahead of time online. Download the Disney app! You can check wait times form your phone! If you pay $15 extra you can get a max pass and book fast passes on your phone. I think this is what we might do.

I'd say just go with the flow.

Yes, it's going to be madness at that time, so definitely buy your tickets in advance.
If princesses are really your main goal (they were when I took my DD for her first visit at age 4!) then I would say as soon as you see the castle, go over to the Royal Hall in Fantasyland where you get to meet three princesses in a row (usually Cinderella, Snow White & Ariel, but sometimes they mix it up). There are other princesses just outside the Royal Hall throughout the day, too (we've met Elena, Jasmine & Rapunzel there). By staying in once place, you can meet up to four princesses! Oh, and download the DL app. It will tell you which characters are out where so you can go searching for them. :) It also tells you wait times for rides.
Good luck & have a magical day!

The one time we went to Disneyland we did a day trip on a sell out day (weekend in February). It was crowded but certainly not unbearable.
During the second week in June Star Wars Land is still accessible by (free and sold out) reservation only so it might not impact you as much as you're thinking. Meaning, it won't be extra sold out. It would probably sell out in June anyway.

Your priorities seem super achievable. Here's some info about seeing princesses. https://www.undercovertourist.com/blog/meeting-princesses-at-disneyland/

On the day we went I think we were too focused on beating the crowd everywhere we went (we were with seasoned Disney fanatics). I wish we had slowed down and let DD absorb/discover more Disney magic on her own. Like sitting in a spot and letting her notice something rather than us running up to it and shout "look at that", snap a pic, and hurry on to the next thing.

Have fun!

@MamaBear87: oops you are totally right! its at disneyland not california

I think my best tip is to go early then. Be at the gates 30 minutes before the park opens, they let you in before the actual opening time. If you are driving, allow at least 30 minutes for parking/security/tram. If you are staying at the disney hotels, there is also magic mornings. i get the most done in the first 2 hours of opening.

@sckim: actually incorrect. Star wars land is at Disneyland. It's going into another park at Disney world.

June is generally pretty busy as school is out. Since it's right after the new land opens I would assume sell out crowds. I'd make sure you buy tickets in advance (I think you can buy tickets for a certain day now). I would also plan to be there super early if you can. If your kids do ok in crowds I think you'll have a good time but prepare for lines

We are joining DH on a work trip in LA and have room in our schedule for all of us to do one day at Disneyland. For reference, our kiddos are 4 and 18m, and this will be the first of many trips through the years. I haven't been to DL in twenty years and I'm sure a lot of things have changed. Legitimately our only goal is for our oldest to see the castle and meet a princess or two. Anything we can do above and beyond that will be icing on the cake.

Here's the kicker-- we are slated to go the second week of June, about 10 days after Star Wars opens up.

Are we too crazy to attempt this? Any advice for making a one day trip magical? We would not attempt to enter the Star Wars area at all. Is it going to be an overwhelming amount of people throughout the whole park?

Has anyone gone in early June, on a Monday or Tuesday? Tips, tricks, and insight all appreciated!

@Pumpkin Pie: We have season passes and go once a month. They have lockers so we usually put most everything in them and only bring a small drawstring backpack to hold phones, wallet, wipes & snacks with us around the park. My 3YO still takes naps about halfway through the day so we still use a stroller for him. ( be aware that you have to park strollers in designated "stroller parking" for rides. We didn't know and we came off a ride and it was moved, I had a slight heart attack.) I highly recommend the park hopper as California Adventure is a really neat experience. I also recommend the Maxpass, it's $10 per ticket and you get the fastpass and access to download pictures taken by the park photographers (and they take some really good photos).

We're going to Disneyland this summer and I bought our tickets through Get Away Today. They were slightly cheaper than Disney and I felt like they were very responsive to questions, and they included coupons for the area. I've also heard aRes Travel has slightly discounted tickets. We took our kids when my youngest was 16-17 months and there were things he could ride, can't remember which ones in particular, that was 4 years ago.

I was tempted to just search HB and find our previous answers from past week/year’s as there are countless threads on DL and DW by now.

3.5 is a great age! Not sure about the baby.

No discount sites but I recommend paying 10 dollars more for the max pass so you don’t wait in lines for Fast Passes, you can just do it all on your phone or if not, google rope drop and then get to Fantasy Land super early. I plan everything to avoid lines. **Mousesavers is a good site for saving money.

Umbrella stroller is fine.

I hope you are also going to the second California Adventure Park which is attached to Disneyland but a separate fee. I like it more than DL itself and lots of little kid things there like Cars Land, Bugs Life, The Wilderness area (forgot the name) and Dosney Jr show. Deleted my favorite food places bc that was for DW. I have that on brain bc we are abt to go soon.

Hello! I haven't been around much these days, but knew I could come here about planning a disney trip.

My kids are 3.5 and 17 months and we are planning a disneyland trip, but I'm pretty scared. It's our very first family trip. I have a few questions and if you could give me advice, I'd appreciate it. We will be driving 6+ hours in our sedan from N. CA.

1. Are the kids too young? Will the 17 mo be able to go on rides?

2. Are there any discount sites for tickets?

3. Will an umbrella stroller be enough or do I need to bring a double stroller?

4. Any recommendations for meals?

5. Any other do's/don'ts/advice is really appreciated.

@Mrs Green Grass: Def go to Plaza Inn in DL off Main St-- they have THE BEST fried chicken EVER. And the corn dog cart is good, too. Also hit up Bengal Barbeque and the Dole stand by the tiki room for a Dole whip (sometimes the line inside the Tiki Room area is shorter, you can just go in, get your Dole whip, and then go back out). The cones at Cozy Cone Motel in DCA are cute. But best bang for your buck would be Whitewater Snacks at the Grand Californian... it's just a bit out of the way.

If you like BBQ, you might enjoy Big Thunder Ranch BBQ-- it's AYCE lunch and dinner, but lines are long.

Aladdin is a great show, but it's a bit long (like 40 mins?), but it's in an air conditioned theatre and it's a nice break from the heat... I would recommend Mickey and the Magical Map as the other show to see, and it's in DL, so you have one show in each park.

The Royal Welcome is the official name for the A&E meet and greet.

Paint the Night is the new nighttime parade in DL for the 60th-- I heard it's really fun, but it is late, and people have been lining up SUPER early for it since it's new.

@Mrs Green Grass: Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is a little girls' makeover shop... you have to make an appointment (especially on weekends) and they do your girl's make up, hair, and you can buy a princess dress. I think it costs $100-$300 overall.

I would also take advantage of the baby centers-- there's one in each park. There are mini potties, a bunch of changing tables, a nursing/pumping area for moms, high chairs with microwaves, and you can buy formula if you need to.

There are three Frozen themed things going on for kids: there's the meet and greet with Anna and Elsa (FastPass in front of the Animation Studio in DCA), the Sing Along show (the Hyperion Theatre, I believe), and Olaf's snow fest. You can go to the snow (and wait in line) without seeing Olaf. If you want to see Olaf, you have to get a pager once you're inside the snow play area.

To get FastPasses, you need EVERYONE'S ticket-- so have one person run ahead and pick up the passes. I would also recommend seeing the Disney Jr live on stage show if your kids watch Doc, Jake, Mickey, or Sofia.

@brownie: Thanks! I think we're skipping World of Color. I don't see him staying up that late. And I don't think we need any ride passes, so I think Frozen will be it.

@808love: Great suggestion, thanks! Is the Bippity Boppity Boutique more than a store?

Have fun! DD loved Bippity Boppity Boutique. Also I like to create a customized ordered plan on Touring Plans site before going to Disney. I'm planning my third trip with it! And for cheap non-character breakfast go to Steakhouse 55 or Flos Diner, sit in back and watch the Cars ride open up.

@Mrs Green Grass: for the most part. Frozen is in the Hollywood section of cal adventure and the passes were near the entrance. Olaf is by monsters inc. the fast passes for world of color where between fantasy land and big thunder mountain which is no where near where it happens. You can only have one ride fast pass at. Time. I'm not sure what the restrictions are on activity (world of color, frozen etc) passes are if they have any.

So we get frozen fast pass in CA Adventure? Do you have to go to each attraction to get it?

So all if the events except for fireworks is by fast pass now. They have portable fast pass machines that look like food carts. I recommend getting your fast pass to frozen and then spending mornings in disneyland. Then about 11 when dland gets busy head over to cal adventure.

How big is your little one? At 35 in they can do the gadget go coaster in toon town. Town town opens 1 hour after dland and if you go there when it opens you can hit that ride a few times. Then we typically visit mickey and Minnie Mouse after the coaster.
