He loves books, so a storybook theme made sense for us. I bought the books from the dollar store (they had some decent books there and I picked books (some coloring books too) appropriate for the age of the children I was giving them to). Then I added some Asian treats (pocky sticks etc.) I figured the parents would eat the treats for the little ones who were too small or for the parents who didn't want to sugar up their kids. We picked twice and had two prizes (gift cards). We did it after the food but before the cake. We had a balloon artist and a magic show. I got clear plastic boxes from papermart and ribbon from a craft store, and shredded paper. They were truly a labor of love... My friend handed out a bag filled with candies and bubbles for her son's party. I had four choices for doljabi and had one prize ($25 amazon gift card). We did the doljabi after the meal, but before the cake smash. I knew I'd be too busy entertaining and running around to do it myself and I'm glad I delegated that to someone else (I'm usually the shutterbug). In Korean culture, the 1st birthday party is a pretty big deal and is called the "Dol". As I'm planning this I'm hoping I don't miss anything big. We're trying to keep it simple by trying to have it at home vs a restaurant or renting out a facility (it's too cold in Jan to have it at a park or else that would've been ideal). Over 50 guests have already RSVP'ed YES though! I'm starting to worry because so many people are coming and I'm now scrambling to get last minute things done.</p> <p>Did you like the party you planned your child? What would you have done differently if you could redo it? </p>
