I didn’t have a pcp for a while but after we moved and I was done with babies I made an appt for a physical so i could get on her roster and be able to come in for sick visits. Now I see her once a year, for the last two years. She can do a pap and check that my iud is there but I guess I’ll have to go back to a gym to have it removed and replaced when that time comes. I’m pretty sure she did a breast check for lumps too. Too young and no risk factors for a mammogram yet. I have had some wacky things this past year, like allergic reactions to bee stings and infections that required someone in addition to my Ob/gyn that I also see yearly. My GP will see me that day for a sick visit and it spares me having to use urgent care. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fully acceptable care but I don’t like chancing it with wait times. I belong to a practice with 25 doctors and PAs so being seen isn’t an issue. I guess once I no longer need to be on the pill, I might switch to a GP? However, I wanted to get on a specific mediation for my acne and needed a gp to oversee it as you have to do ongoing bloodwork and my dermatologist didn’t have appointments available for six months. I don’t have insurance. The last time I saw a doctor was last autumn. I have a degenerative joint disease, and the pain and inflammation became so severe that I couldn’t walk unassisted, so I was scared something was really wrong. I wish I hadn’t gone, as all he did was give me a once over and prescribe some mild pain killers that did nothing. $300 for 30 minutes. No thank you. I haven't seen one in ages. I used to be followed by a cardiologist occasionally and saw my OB/GYN every year, so that plus being younger made it feel unnecessary. But I'll be 39 next month, and I need to be more responsible about that stuff. My DH will be 45 this year, and I really need to get him to one, too. I go to my ob/gyn yearly for paps. I found that the local urgent care is much more user friendly where I live (big city). I get much more personalized attention, see the same doc, more time spent with me etc. my local GP was impossible to get a same day appointment with (without an hours long wait) and wouldn’t see me for a sick visit if I hadn’t seen her in 9 months. I’m very healthy and rarely get sick. I’m utilizing health care differently now, and I’m much happier. Also, studies show that for healthy asymtompmatic individuals, well visits are unnecessary and result in unnecessary testing. Admittedly it’s been years since I’ve been to an OB. I switched to my family physician before having kids. The last time I saw my GP was for a tick bite and that was 3 years ago. (I saw the nurse this year for a flu shot).
