Nope, didn't even consider it. I had no interest in seeing it. I was too focused on baby I didn't even feel it come out.

I totally would have! But after the expenses preparing for and having a baby, I just couldn't afford it. I wish it was covered by insurance or FSA eligible!

@Arden: We're a family of vegetarians, too - that is funny! hehe

This is something I'm on the fence about. I have a history of depression and anxiety, so I worry that I might struggle after having a baby. I'm definitely interested in doing this, but I'm also kind of squeamish and the idea of it turns my stomach a bit! I need to do some more research and find out how I would even go about having it encapsulated in my area before I make a decision. Oh, I should probably get pregnant first, too! ;)

I've done it twice and I'd do it again - it gets ground up into a fine powder and put into pills, looks exactly like my fenugreek and it helps A LOT with milk production and PPD.

@Arden: I think it's because it's a new idea, and the idea of eating something from a human is off putting to some people (me included!) I eat meat, but it is animal and has been eaten since the beginning of time. I don't eat animal placenta, and I would never consider eating my own. Ever. So to answer your question from my own POV..it's "revolting" because it is like cannibalism in my head? I know that isn't true, but yuck. Not for me!!

I'm not pregnant but I've always been interested in this - I'm not really squeamish and it doesn't gross me out, but I did read that it gives you bad burps lol anyone have any experience with this?

@Arden: I'll admit a few years ago I would have been like ewwwww but having been through the birth process once and feeling that hormone crash I am a believer!

I'm more of a texture person so I think encapsulation will be fine. I could not take a bite out of it....

I'm having mine encapsulated (my husband and mom volunteered to do it so we don't have to pay to have it done) any day now (come on baby!). I'm a believer.

As a vegetarian, I find it amusing when people find it gross (just like I find it amusing when people freak out about horse meat). Meat is meat, organs are organs. What makes some yummy and others revolting?

@littlebittyhouse: I've been reading a lot about it lately, sort of out of morbid curiosity, and I just can't. I gag thinking about it.

Have you or would you consider placenta encapsulation?

I didnt the first time around but now after having the baby blues and some anxiety postpartum. I think that next time I will.

The placenta nourishes our babes and then when we deliver all that life, hormones, protein, the iron, the vitamin B is just gone. It sustains our babies and I have a sneaking suspicion that it can sustain us.

What are your thoughts?
