Ugh, as a mini vent..the nurse made me feel like a crappy mother. She was like "wow, she's only 23 days and picked up pink eye!? Where did she get that?"

Well first off, it isn't pink eye, and really... I know my hormones are making me oversensitive but man... Way to make me feel like I'm not taking care of my kid! :p

@cheert16: @rahlyrah: @hilsy85: they gave us some drops and said to massage it and put warm pressure on it, which I've been doing all morning. It actually looks a lot better already, thank goodness. I'm going to try the breastmilk when we get home!

@babyjmama: thanks hun :) she's still her cheerful self, so I think we are still going to go on our date.. My SIL didn't mind at all, so DH is trying to convince me to go.

Aw hope she feels better soon! I feel like I've heard that breastmilk is good for clogged tear ducts? If you're breastfeeding, maybe try it?

B had a blocked duct, too. The doc didn't even need him to come in. We kept it clean with a warm cloth and massaged it with a pinky finger. I also squirt breast milk in the corner of his eye every diaper change. It cleared up in two days.

She said we only had to worry if the eyeball itself got red. It's really common!

B's first illness was a possible life threatening MRSA infection :(

Oh mama I'm sorry :( j had his two month shots the afternoon before my bday and had a 103-104* fever, we ended up in the hospital and neither DH or I slept for 36 hours. We were supposed to go out to a movie and eat but we took advantage of having my MIL there to nap instead. *sigh

Life becomes very different w/a LO around! :-) sending kisses to her so she gets alllllll better!!

We got lucky with DD, she didn't get her first cold/fever until she was about 7 months old. DS got his first cold before he was 3 months old (that's what happens with second borns). It sucks having them so young and not feeling well. I hope your LO feels better soon :)

My LO has a blocked tear duct as well- I noticed it at 6 weeks! They will give you some eye gel to put in and ways to massage the tear duct. Overall it's not too bad and LO felt better when the gel was in his eye. I think you could probably still have your date night (although I understand not wanting to leave your LO when they don't feel we'll)

Awww I'm sorry your LO is sick. Hopefully it's just an infected duct and you guys can still go in your date night.

DD's first illness was a stomach bug that she brought home from daycare at 15 weeks old. We took her to the ER because she was throwing up :-(

I'm so sorry!! Having a sick baby is such a helpless feeling.

DS had an ear infection around 6 months, but luckily he trudged on without complaining too much. The sleeping still sucked though and was probably harder on us than him!

I hope your LO is feeling better soon! Hugs.

Yesterday I noticed LO's left eye was a bit runny, like she was leaking tears. When she woke up for a feeding around 1am, her poor eye was sealed shut with goop :(

Her eye isn't red, so I think it's an infected/blocked tear duct rather than pink eye, but we're going to take her to the walk in clinic as soon as it opens. For now I'm cuddling the poor thing as much as she wants, and feeling so helpless! I can tell her eye is bothering her, and I can't fix it :( On a selfish note, DH and I were supposed to have our first post baby date today, and it looks like that will have to be postponed. Bummer :/

She had jaundice in the hospital, but this is her first illness after coming home (she's 3.5 weeks).

How did you handle your LO getting sick for the first time?

W had SUCH a bad clogged tear duct his ped said he would probably need surgery after he turned one because he didn't think it would clear up on his own. But, after 6 months of squirting him in the eye with BM every time I fed him it finally cleared up! So don't worry, it's completely normal :-)

LO had blocked tear ducts in both eyes at birth. Her right cleared up after a week and her left took 12 weeks. Our ped wouldn't do anything about it until one year because 90% of cases resolve themselves by that point. It was gross having to clean her eye all the time and the peanut gallery drove me nuts about it.
