Oh man, L is afraid of everything. I'm wondering if I should be concerned.
And, it's weird things. Terrified of balloons (recently got over that one though), crawling babies (?!?!), all real animals (loooves them on TV though), leaves on the ground, snow... it's just ridiculous

ETA: She turned 2 in January

@sandy: with the hand dryers, two summers ago we were in a museum and I took DS to the bathroom. They had the Dyson hand dryers and he SCREAMED bloody murder while I was drying my hands. I think the whole museum heard him. After that he would always ask "are there dryers or paper towels?" when we would go into public restrooms. Even now, I'm not allowed to use hand dryers when he is with me.

When my son was younger, he was afraid of my food processor and hand dryers in public bathrooms (both make a lot of noise, makes sense). Lately (he's now 4), he's afraid of being alone (even in our apt), and being in the dark. It's cute, he will ask our 14 mo to go with him to his bedroom if he needs to get something.

My daughter is really brave and fearless, but she did develop some weird little fears around that age. Like, train horns. We hear them often where we live, and for a while, she seemed genuinely afraid of them. I just validated her fears and tried to provide comfort, and they've gone away largely.

Yeah, but more random and some abstract things like anything that looks like it could be a bug (especially fuzz), death (that one was hard to explain to her), robots, and the dark. I think it's normal as their little worlds begin to expand.

My son is 20 months and he is rapidly developing lots of little fears. Did this happen to your LO around 2 years old?

He is currently scared of: balloons, the power drill, gloves, the plastic boot my dad has to wear after having surgery on his ankle, emergency vehicles (the sound of the sirens, not the vehicles), a large plastic shark hanging from the ceiling at the aquarium....probably more that I am forgetting right now. Does this seem normal?

Seems like a lot to be scared of! He is also having a lot of language development going on right now and just became attached to some of his stuffed animals- in case that could be related. Thoughts?

Nope! I don't think anyone is ever fully ready. Even if they think they are, we all have freak out moments as the due date approaches. As long as you have all your ducks in a row in regards to your life and are mentally prepared for a child then I'd say you're good.

Well, we tried to get pregnant for over a year before we got our sticky baby, and even so I nearly had a panic attack in the bathroom when the second line showed up. Definitely hyperventilated for a minute.

I don't think you can ever be really ready. It is absolutely life-changing, and it's not easy. My marriage is definitely different, but not in a bad way. And like @runnerd: said, it's a total leap of faith.

I don't think you're ever really ready. I have dreamed about being a mom since I was 12, and when we finally pulled the goalie I was scared shitless. Now that I am pregnant, I am still scared but also really excited! I don't know if the fear will ever go away because I'll probably always worry about this little bean for the rest of its life. But hopefully the excitement won't go away either!

I thought I was, but holy cow! I never expected this. It's amazing, wonderful and scary all at the same time and I would never change it for the world! You're never really ready. The only advice I can give you is to make absolutely sure you and your husband have great communication, because, not only is it key to a great marriage, it makes things SO much easier once your child is here. Good luck!!!! :-)
