She'll be going this year at almost two. I think they are walking field trips though. But I don't see what the problem would be on a bus - they usually have lots of extra hands with them anyways.

We let my DD go on some field trips with her preschool starting age 4 (youngest they are allowed to go due to booster seats used). Her school used vans. However, I didn't let her go on the ones that were more than 30 min drive until she was 5.

I must be the odd man out, my little guy has been going on daycare field trips since about 8 months. They are only every few months or so, but now that he is 2 he gets so excited about them.

LO started at two. TO the zoo, no less. Trying to get them all to walk, not to mention the bathroom issues was a challenging feat I can imagine. Most were totally potty trained but not all. What a nightmare for the teachers. I guess the preschool learned their lesson so now they go places like a train ride and the library.

Interesting. Our daycare either takes public transit or has a chartered bus, like a big tourist bus, or sometimes a charter passenger van. Being potty trained is a good point, but I guess they are willing to deal with it if they are taking the little ones along. So far, I think just the oldest of the younger class goes on trips and he's almost 3 (and his brother is in the big kid class).

Our school has had field trips that include bus rides of an hour each way so I haven't let the kids go alone. Going into a different state, crossing a bridge, that's too far for my comfort level. I would might be ok with if it they took local field trips, but they don't ...

3.5 maaaybe. Daycare starts in the preschool room and I'm ok with that. Although pp make a good point. It depends on if their transportation has car seats.

LO will go on field trips at 3 when she starts school.

At 18 months Id be worried about that age needing so much like naps/rest, strollers? That it would sound exhausting to even bring them all.

I honestly don't know, we haven't had any yet, as the preschool where my son is doesn't do them because of liability issues.

It depends on the method of transportation, where they are going and what they're doing there.

I let him go at 18 months BUT I drove him. He was rear facing and their transportation was only forward facing. His new school only does walking field trips. I wouldn't let him on a bus without a car seat until he is 5 because compartmentalizations doesn't work until then. Heck he is 4 and still rear facing in our cars.

At what age would you feel comfortable letting your LO go on a daycare field trip?

My LOs go to the same daycare and the older class goes on field trips almost every week (sometimes just in and around the city and sometimes further away on chartered transportation) and the younger class usually stays at school. Most of the time, school is open for the younger ones when the older ones are gone, but occasionally for all-day field trips school is completely closed. There is an upcoming all-day field trip and school will be closed for the younger LOs, unless they go on the trip, and they are always welcome on the trips. DD is only 18 months, so she will just stay home that day (luckily, my job is flexible). I'm not sure at what age I will start letting her go on all day field trips. With my older LO, we didn't have to deal with this because his old daycare didn't offer field trips when he was young, and he started the new daycare with field trips at 3.5yo. At what age would you let your LO start participating in field trips?
