@.twist.: Its online storage. You can access the files from anywhere. It is like Google Docs but you can upload anything.

@spaniellove: haha! I'm not going to lie, I may have briefly thought I just invented an amazing filing system! I guess your husband beat me to it! :P How many years of filing does he keep?

I am very excited about this possibility!

@Thehistoryofus: oooh. What is Drop Box? I've never heard of it. A website? Storage device?

I definitely would be backing it up on an external hard drive and then looking for a possible online storage system.

DH has been doing this for a long time...he uses that Neat scanner! We have a system where as soon as we go through the mail we shred anything that isn't vital as well as the catalog pages with our address, then we recycle catalogs and he takes essential mail to his desk. Then every few days he scans and either shreds or holds on to bills for that month.

I think its a great idea. I wouldn't store on my PC but on a site like Drop Box (in case the house burned down or something)

I was just thinking this morning about our home filing system and how it is just a complete mess.

I was wondering if anyone does or has heard of filing on your PC?

example, you get a piece of mail that you need to keep for a certain amount of time. Scanning it and filing it on your computer and then shredding the snail mail copy? That way if you need it you can print it off but it doesn't take up any actual space in your house?

I'm wondering if this is a good idea or a bad idea.
