i don't think i have an oversupply -- i know of some women who can pump up to 16 oz at a time! but i think our milk just slows down to droplets no matter how long we pump. it's not worthwhile to keep going up to 30 minutes because it's so little coming out at a time.

with charlie i usually pumped 15 minutes. i didn't do anything special other than breast compressions. and after my bouts with clogged ducts in the early days, i never got them again even though i was producing much more milk. as long as you're not getting clogged ducts, 15-20 minutes should be good?

How I wish I had that trouble! However, perhaps this link (http://newborns.stanford.edu/Breastfeeding/MaxProduction.html) could be of help. Obviously you already have great production so the self expression afterward isn't necessarily needed by you but massage and compression during pumping helped me to get milk out so maybe during pumping do massage and/or compression. Also, maybe pump until you get the majority of what the pump can easily get out and then finish off with hand expression.

it doesn't stop flowing for me either, even if i pump 25 minutes. there are always drops still coming out. i know they say you should continue pumping for 5 min after the last drop, but i can always get one more drop!

I don't know if breasts are ever completely empty, well mine never are. I don't pump regularly but when I do I just wait until it slows down to drops instead of a regular stream and continue to pump maybe for a couple minutes. For me when it's only coming out in slow drops pumping starts to get uncomfy.

I know this is an odd issues, but any help would be appreciated!

I have heard that when you pump, you should pump a minimum of 10 minutes, max of maybe 20 minutes or when the milk stops flowing.

My problem is that after 20 minutes, my milk is still coming out. Granted its a few drops at a time but especially with a little massaging its still coming out. I am afraid I am never really emptying my breasts with the pump but I can't sit there and pump forever (I've only ever gone to about 25 minutes).

Is there any way to speed up your pumping session so I could get as much out as possible in 15 minutes or so? For example, this morning I pumped almost 2 ounces in 5 minutes and then another ounce in the next 10 minutes and less than half an ounce in the last 5 minutes (I stopped at this point because I had to get back to work). It definitely slows down but never stops coming! I would love to get as much as possible in 15 minutes. HELP!
